Hi,
I bought Mass Effect a couple of days ago and I love it. However, it crashes about once every hour. I restart my computer and then it runs fine for another hour when I again have to restart my computer.
I have downloaded all new drivers and even tried a bunch of old ones too for both audio and video. The only difference is that with a new video driver, I get the BSOD, but with the old drivers, it just locks up.
After considerable research, I want to try and adjust my cachesizemegs. Apparently, I have to locate an .ini file? I've messed around with a bunch of the Mass Effect system files without actually editing any of them. I can't locate this .ini file. I just open different ones and do a search for "cachesizemegs." Can someome give me explicit instructions how to edit the .ini file?
System Specs:
Intel® Core i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz
ATI Radeon HD 4300/4500 Series
Physical Memory: 2.99bg
VRAM: 1gb
Video Driver: CATALYST 11.3
Audio: RealTek (I set it to hardware to avoid driver problems)
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
I've tinkered with this game for hours and hours trying to stabilize it. I can finish it just by restarting every hour, but what a friggin' pain, eh? Any help would be much appreciated!

well, i just finished the game. it was shorter than i expected. i also found a place to change the cache size. it was in the bioengine.ini. i changed the field labelled "maxoverallcachesize" from 30 to 150. i still had some problems after an hour, so i changed it to 60. i'm not sure if it helps or not actually, but it certainly didn't hurt anything.
oh, and i just bought mass effect 2 also. my ati radeon 4350 is apparently below system specs. i knew i should've fixed this computer up to play games, but i thought i was only going to be doing work stuff on it. ah well.... maybe it will still be playable.

I'll be very suprised if you get ME2 running on that. There are tons of cheap way better Radeons out there for you to buy for gaming. A Tiny investment can get you a lot with Radeon cards.
