Any tech savy people out there want to tell my why my 24" HD gateway monitor works fine with my new pc; ati 6970 gpu

But...my 30"Dell monitor flashes on and off every second?

My intuition tells me that the Dell is not HD, or the 6970 gpu does not like the Dell.

I wanted to compare how Dragon Age looked in each monitor but I can't get the Dell to work.

Mainly curious why at this point.

Well, the monitor is less useful than a cake when it flashes on and off every one or two seconds.

Generally I find these kind of problems are a result of the GPU and monitor not being properly connected.

I've had problems with non-standard DVI/VGA plug sizes in the past for example where you were not able to connect two at the same time to a single graphics card (In my case I actually resolved it by cutting some of the plastic coating off one of the DVI plugs).

Another thing worth checking if it is a DVI/VGA cable is that none of the pins in the connector are bent.

It could also just be a faulty cable (this would also apply to a HDMI cable) - It is worth checking all of the above.

Thanks, I will check that out.
