I purchased the ultimate edition of Dragon Age and decided not to download the DLC from the second disc right away. I played the game till i reached Levi right out of Lothington, and when DLC was mentioned i saved the game and installed disc two. Everything seemed fine, finished downloading then exited. Then I put disc one in and it is reading it as a dvd. I checked my memory and all the items from disc two had successfully been downloaded. I deleted awakening out of my memory thinking maybe it was just problems with that. Tried again and the first disc still isn't working. It did say an update was required and when i pressed OK to update im not sure if it did or not. please help!

I searched the first two pages and did not find a similar problem as what I have!

Hm...missed this one.
To eliminate it as a hardware problem, are you having the same problem with other game discs?
It might also be worthwhile to clear the cache if the patch caused the problem.

Yes my other games still work.
I clicked cleared cash and perform system maintenance. The progress bar showed up only for like 2 seconds, did not fill just vanished after those few so im assuming it didn't have much to clear.
I deleted the DLC then re-installed it, and it still will not read disc one containing the game.

I would have thought because updating seemed to trigger the problem of not reading the disc as a game disc that clearing the cache would help.
As unlikely as it sounds I would only hazard a guess that the disc has developed a fault somehow. Is it possible for you to have someone else check whether the disc works on their console (to eliminate the possibility of it being a disc problem)?
Actually scratch that for now (but might be worth checking). I do recall one official response is to disconnect the HD and then see if the game runs.

'Solution' 4 in the above page. (Not that I would really call it a solution.)

i removed the hard drive then reconnected it, it doesnt run with or without it. it still reads disc unreadable. It must have something to do with the DLC because it ran fine before i installed that second disc.

Hopefully the fault developed quite soon after your purchase (depending on your consumer law and whatnot). If the dlc was at fault, removing the HD should have eliminated that problem thus enabling the game to run.
Having 'said' that though, there is still the possibility that it is the patch that caused the problem (and if so I would hazard a guess that new discs won't actually help but that is a guess); in which case it might be worth clearing the cache.

Of course it doesn't change the fact the drive isn't reading the disc as intended, but it might be worth a shot to see if the game will run without the additional patch that was later installed.

Use the second disk to play the game, not the first disk. Once you have Awakening installed, you can't use the first disk to play the game since you can use the second one to play as well.

are you certain? have you tried?
My experience suggests disc 2 is purely for installation not playing
my only problems with discs not working were resolved by either wiping the disc or by unplugging the console moving it a little and starting again. If these don't work I have no ideas.
