Changes to the camera angles during conversations. I REALLY liked this change.

In origins you spend hours making your character's face juuuuuust perfect (well, I did) and then 99% of the time you only get to look at the back of his/her head.

In DA2, when Hawke is talking to people, the camera is actually on his/her face a decent amount of the time, with close-ups and everything. So if you created a face that you enjoy looking at, you actually get to look at it!

To add to this, I loved the Black Emporium because of the mirror.  I have restarted so many characters in DA:O because I get through some or most of the origin and the face is messed up.  With the emporium, I can constantly tweak my character's appearance, which I love.  Even better, I can change her hair/makeup through the years:)

Great thread.

• The changes in lighting between acts. The light in Hightown is stunning in act 3. I always take a moment to stand and just look around.
• Changes to Hawke's auto-dialogue depending on your overall stance. Sarcastic!Hawke is my favourite, because he never fails to make me pause the game while I'm laughing hysterically.
• The mirror, oh god for the love of the mirror. And Xenon is just generally awesome (all the more so when you find out Hawke's VA voiced him).
• Moving hair!
• Companions have a life when you're not there, and they talk about it. Actually, just companion banter in general (wish Hawke took part in it a little more).
• The new art direction for the map, loading screens and those bits where Varric is narrating a time-jump. Just beautiful.
• Toggle helm. <3
• Companion roles as special options in certain conversations. I'm sure there are lots I've missed because I favour a particular party.
• The lore: I don't read it all, but I've been reading an awful lot more than I ever did in DAO.

This.

...err... minus the makeup and stuff. But It's annoying to see that the character creation has botched up and I gotta start from the begining. The mirror was a great addon, especialy when the game spans over 10 years, so I can add wrinkles and beard.

The Black Emporium was a wonderful thing.

The mirror to change your appearance is frozen coolness on a stick.

Lets not forget respec potions either. I understand why some of the RPG purists don't like them but to me they are liquid gold.

Sandal: "I want to go home!"
Bohdahn(paraphraseing): "Don't worry, Sandal. Soon we'll be leaving to Ferelden."

Get it? Ferelden? It's a reference to those with DA:O-colored glasses.

The black emporium dude is hilarious.  "Thadeus! ... No charge. No Charge!  You hear me Thadeus?  ..."

I loved that clothes and hair actually moved this time around. Even though it still was super-shiny in some lighting, it looked far more natural than it did in Origins.

I adore how often your companions express their opinions in dialogue, or how you can turn to them in certain quests to intervene. Every time I bring someone new with me, I feel like a hear a little bit more of the story. It's great for replay value. In a similar vein, I like how your dominant personality can open up new conversation pathways and persuade options.

I love the reactivity to Hawke's romance. When I romanced Anders, I had Aveline, Leandra, Gamlen, Varric, Sebastian, Merrill, and Isabela all comment on it. I felt like they cared about Hawke's life and relationship, and that such a choice mattered. I also liked your LI coming to comfort you after All That Remains. This was what was missing in Origins. When my human noble killed Howe, no one came up and asked me if I had closure now. It was this big emotional moment and it went largely ignored by the people claiming to care about you. Not so in DA2.

I also really appreciate that all 4 LIs are bi. Yay for options. Seriously, take note ME2 team. The world didn't implode just because two men or two women kissed on screen. And their sexualities were all handled differently and with tact, assuaging any fears some might have had about this mechanic being there for pandering reasons. It really felt integrated into each of their characters. Kudos.

All of the things mentioned here. I also liked the little dialog bits when I would manually switch to a party member during battle to get him/her to down a potion. Varric asking if there were any side effects had me in stitches.

The conversations between drunks in the Hanged Man... and Hawke's conversations with the people who he sells crafting ingredients to. I like how the town recognizes your accomplishments from act to act. It's a nice touch that adds realism and immersion.

And the street gangs you can battle at night... that's pretty cool.

It really made my day.

Here's a great simple change.

All-sizes health and mana potions. The smaller ones were fine early on in DA:O but later in the game you have 80 of the stupid things and they barely heal 1/4 of your life. Now there's just a one-size-fits-all potion. It's better.

As someone else mentioned, the fact that they say things when other party members fall in battle (actually, all of the battle/victory/potion drinking cries were great); it's as if they actually pay attention to each other. All in all, little things added up to make the companions feel much more real to me than in previous games.

The first time I noticed this, I was pleasantly surprised. My f!Hawke yelled out "Aveline!" in a sort of horrified/scared ****less way. It really added to the supposed fact that they were BFFs, rather than, say, my Warden and any of her companions (they were all really close because of the feastday gifts ;)).

I like that kirkwall actually changed from act to act, if you looked up in lowtown the buildings got additions and stuff.

Unfortunately this is little like you said. Even though the good doctors did say through out the 10 years we play (7 really boohoo) the city would change to our decisions. I was annoyed to find out that the only that changed was maybe some decorations on some wall.

I liked my companions talking to random NPC's.

Oh especially the hair. No longer does it look like plastic! Camera during conversation was a HUGE improvement also. I loved how Hawke and company would react to a character death in combat  and when getting out of combat, also when using items in combat.

Random NPCs having conversations with my companions. This was especially great because even these conversations changed as time progressed.

Uncle Gamlen embarrassingly/inappropriately commenting on my love interest. I had long since moved out but he still knew about my personal life. This really helped to give me a sense that despite our differences like it or not we were family.

The many and multiple things Hawke had to say about junk lying about the house.

Aveline ripping me a new one for selling her husband's shield.

I loved Varric's humorous and oftentimes unreliable narrative. The scene where he single-handedly goes into his brother's house and shoots everyone down made me crack up.
