To me it "feels" too strong with a quicker reload.  I like the idea of a STEEP DPS dropoff in exchange for OSOK .. obviously YMMV.

Without quicker reload its useless. The claymore is easily the most inaccurate weapon in the game, requiring you to go point blank to maintain OSOK capability. The balance here is the inaccuracy. With reload trick, it has the highest DPS for a shotgun and it should as you always have to go close. I'd say the GPS is unbalanced, it has the second highest dps, better OSOK capability when charged, and high accuracy. Also quick refire feature of the charged GPS allows u to fire a chargeshot and a regular shot in around 1/3 of a second, now that feels too strong.

Edit:
Without reload trick, time between shots = 2.5 seconds
With reload trick, time between shots = 1.4 seconds.
You would be crazy not to use reload trick.

I won't argue about having to be "Perfect" without the Quick Reload Feature. If you want max efficiency you obviously would want to cut out any "wasted" time possible. No arguements here.

I will say that I'm OK with knowing that [on Insanity] I have to be perfect. As long as I can Charge, shoot, maybe throw an elbow, and reload before my Charge becomes available again I'm OK with it.

I also won't argue on non-Vanguards that the Geth Shotty seems like the "only" shotgun to roll with. It is WAAY accurate and does decent non-overload damage. Basically for my non-Vanguard styles I'd be dumb not to choose it.

Of course to me the most "broken" weapon [for a Soldier] is the Mattock. But that's a whole other thread :)

Pressing Melee too early will actually prolong the reload animation, and pressing it too late will only cancel a part of the reload process. Getting it right maximises your damage output.

Yeah, after the 'click' you can cancel the animation anytime you want though waiting a little longer doesn't necessarily lowers damage output. I've used the Claymore on Adept and Engineer and their extra cooldown reduction makes it possible to use 3s powers (like Pull, Throw, Slam, and Neural Shock) between shots. The ability to use powers while shooting without (hardly any) delay in RoF is very powerful (other powers with a longer cd can be used between 2 shots).

With perfect timing Claymore ammo will always be zero - when it jumps to 1 you've waited too long. :)

Yes, you're right of course. I meant DPS as in theoretically shooting a target with infinite health without moving around etc.

On the battlefield it's completely different as there's situations where you need to cancel the reload as soon as possible to get rid of 2-3 enemies in a row without much of a delay. But there's situations where you need to dash to the closest enemy and only then shoot, or the enemies are too far apart to utilise reloading without taking cover or using a skill etc etc.. It's all about getting in point blank range - if you have the chance to be in point blank range all of the time, that's what really maximising your damage output.

Yay I figured out what I was doing wrong! Apparently I have to hit fire before I hit melee, which makes no sense at all to me, but hey it works.

Just keep the mouse button pressed, no need to time that one.

Oh my god. Thank you so much.

Also, WHY DIDN"T ANYONE TELL ME THIS BEFORE :pinched: I spent quite some time thinking it was hard and I was bad at the game or something. But now thanks to you, it is laughably easy.

If you think you've mastered the Claymore - join the Claymore Fanclub (in Kronner's sig) :-)

Best weapon in ME2, no question.

I got tired of the claymore's slow shooting. So, on my non-cannon plays I use a modded claymore that is akin to a double barrel shotgun. Boom-boom, reload. It's a lot more fun that way :)

Yep I also use the sound. I can use it but honestly I still don't like the concept. Just plain weird, doesn't matter if it's a glitch or intentional.

I would have been cool with it if it was tied to the reload button rather then the melee button.

If it was tied to the reload button then it would have felt like a feature not a glitch (like the active reload in Gears of War); but since its tied to the melee button it feels like a glitch (albeit an intentional glitch) since there's no rational reason why swinging your gun would somehow allow you to eject and then reload a fresh clip faster.

It is extremely fun.

Definitely haven't mastered it, I'm actually overusing it a little. So enamored with the ability to fire fast sometimes I'll shoot at the 2nd post charge target before they're in OHKO range   Also have a tendency to charge into larger groups to take advantage of the fast fire...and they end up being a little too large. Have to remember that even though I can kill multiple people rapidly, picking off lone stragglers is still the best move.

The only trap for powerful classes is the knowledge that you are powerful :)
