Mature games for mature gamers, such as myself.

Isn't DA2 the same thing? blood gore and sex?

Clicking the mouse or 1-5 keys is all the same to me.

Clicking 1-5 = Five buttons

Clicking left mouse = One button

I like your logic of how they're the same though

That said. Do i have to collect 10 flowers for a nudey card in The Witcher 2 just like i could in the first?

You know you don't have to do those things, right? All RPGs have some way of completely wasting your time in the name of completionism. And I actually found the combat more rewarding when I upgraded some of the signs rather than the styles all the way. I have a Polish friend who also says that the VA is a lot better in Polish then in English. The story line is also very good, and is told very well even with the bad English VA. There is no way in hell that DA2 is better than The Witcher. Even if you don't like it, you have to respect the effort and the accountability for a lot of the bugginess with the release of a free Enhanced Edition.

Yep. Religion in our nation is much more prominent, and thus it tends to affect the things we can show in terms of sex.

Although implying people that dislike sex cards are purdish is fairly wrong. I Hate the sex cards because they juvenalize sex. Myself, I'd like to see more of it portrayed like ME1.

I figured people would say religion... but, in my experience, that doesn't seem to be the case. For whatever cultural reason, people treat sex here like it's beneath them... as if it's akin to using the restroom.

I love the other video as well (the intro video). The "Mandolin-Fighting system" looks fantastic. Especially the exploding body. And you don't even have to press a button to make something awesome happen. :P

Witcher II is taking advantage of technology by being developed solely for PC (console ports are a "maybe" but they aren't sure they will be able to transfer the tech easily), hence why it looks so beautiful even in that parody game in the video.

Also... these European developers (Risen, Witcher, Divinity 2 all European games and loaded with content and a genuine feel that they were made by people who love the RPG genre and want to evolve it with the present techologies) still have that deep passion for the genre that is missing in some mainstream US companies now, who seek to find only what "sellz" to the "mainstream" generation at the expense of the genre fanatics. I'm sure there are people in Bioware who are passionate about RPGs still but have to do what they're told (didn't one of the leads walk out after becoming disillusioned with the direction?).

I hope Bioware learn from the mistakes of DAII so they don't have to endure the relentless criticism and jokes from so many people. You can reach your new target audience while maintaining the things what make RPGs great. Baldur's Gate shipped over 2,000,000 copies and was a huge financial (and critical) success, yet loaded with stats and dialogue. And that was in an era when gaming wasn't as much a cash cow as it is now and titles didn't get the massive advertising they do in the present day.

^^ This. I agree with that, just looking at the dev vids, those polish guys look really excited about their game.

Cd Projekt actually agrees with you. I do too incidentally.

There is still sex in Witcher 2, but sex cards are gone. However boobs are still in that game too, you americans should really get over it!

Exactly how I feel. I've long grown tired of the mainstream just as Bioware seems intent on embracing it.

Damn, there is no reason to have full frontal nudity in a video game, if you want to see some boobs and watch people have sex the porn is just a few mouse clicks away.

Hmm. I disagree. Combat looks pretty chaotic in TW2, and much harder. I can't say if it's better or not yet. Certainly combat in TW1 was a weak point.

Agreed. Let's see how it turns out. If in this april fools joke they make fun of the autoplay and mandolin fighting system then they sure have to come up with a great new system themselves. I was confident enough to pre-order TW2.

Most of the criticism I read revolved around the objectifying component of the card collection, and not the fact that you could have random encounters with various females.  They seemed to have digested this and, as you say, removed the cards while leaving the sex.

Did they really say they hated the cards? I mean... what else were they going to do with the Aurora engine? Have nude NWN models rolling around...? It would have just looked ridiculous. I thought the sex cards were going because the graphics engine actually has some semblance of reality now.

This argument always just strikes me as odd.

I might similarly say that there is no reason to shoot people in the head or stab them in the stomach in a video game, yet that is what fairly large part of games is about.

These games are k-18 for a reason, but if you want to argue about children I'd say boobs are less harmful than to be able to shoot fake people in the head with sniper rifle.

Well I remember reading from Rock Paper Shotgun that looking back they thought sex cards were in fact rather juvenile. But I might be wrong. It was some interview with cd projekt people.

This is what I mean. It does not seem to be a religious argument, as you see. It's more a thought process that sex is something you keep seperate from all the clean stuff... like going to the restroom, as I said.

lol, or you can say that about anything in a game at all, not even just violent/sex stuff... Everything is a few damn clicks away on the internet... Why even have games at all? Sword fights are a few clicks away, castles are a few clicks away, conversations are a few clicks away, good stories are a few clicks away.... Why the hell are we spending $60 for this stuff?

Edit: I bet I could get a conversation with a drunk dwarf going faster on the internet than I could in DA:O.

You're arguing against a deep, ingrained mindset, one that is learned and not easily viewed from an objective stance. In other words, it's mission impossible. Don't even bother. Believe me, I've tried. :)

Personally i think sex should be talked about more openly and not thought of something dirty and should be kept secret. However, puritanical morality combined with the squeemishness most people feel toward it in any kind of medium outside a bedroom wont let this happen.

Also, Im an American and i like boobies! Then again, as a female, i probably should Image IPB

I like boobs to.
Personally when i saw the boob cards i laughed my ass off in much the same way i did with the full frontal male nudity in GTA 4: Biker DLC thing.

Maybe it is becaus i am Scandinavian and i am kind of used to seeing topless women at the beach and sex is not a taboo in any form her.
I kind of like when video games have the balls to have nudity in the game when appropriate and it kind of pisses me of when games like DA2 is trying to go for the love/romance/sex thing and yet you have people cuddling in bed after sex fully clothed.

Did they dry hump or what?.

There are worse things than boobies. ;)

It's not even an American problem. The so called open minded Dutch (I am from the Netherlands) also have lots of people who view sex as a taboo, and we also have lots of other silly single minded groups here. Hehe. It's trendy to not like the USA. So, I wouldn't pay much attention to the USA/sex thing. And... I thought BW was Canadian... Ah, well. ;)

Skyrim will blow both the dragon age and witcher franchises out of the water. Mark my words.

After reading about all the improvements Bethesda appear to have made based on what they learned from Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout 3, I'm starting to believe this more and more. But as has been said, Skyrim will still be a different sort of rpg to TW2/DA, so I can understand why many people are wary to compare it with them.

In terms of sales, setting, and gameplay, it'll top the charts easily over any other high-fantasy based RPG this year. Even if it's open-world.

eh, to be fair, Hawke is in her underwear after she and Fenris are done, but that's the closest I've seen. But yeah, i hope they find a blanace between the rediculousness that was DAO scenes and "We must placate the conservative Americans" approach in DA2.

As a person personally, I don't think it should be.
It's really a debatable subject as in which not everyone finds perversion of any kind interesting, fascinating, or
comforting. This isn't a religous view either and I wouldn't way say it's a morality reasoning.
It's more of preference of comfortabilities. I don't like overbearing sexual conversing or subjects.
I just don't find it to be suitable for a public subject but more personal if needed.

As I said, it's a preference and an opinion of my own.

They would show some skin, but not a lot and it worked.
