Damn, there is no reason to have full frontal nudity in a video game, if you want to see some boobs and watch people have sex the porn is just a few mouse clicks away.

The problem with porn is that it usually features real people instead of elves and aliens.
This is very off-putting and annoying.

It feels strange to me to be so in the minority regarding Dragon Age as a whole. I felt the improved combat was a good thing, that was my biggest gripe with DA:O. Now, I get some people were yearning for that Baldur's Gate feel, but that kind of combat feels so ridiculously dated now, and combat annoyed me in DA:O. DA2, it felt more fun.

My problem with DA2 was the writing. It's odd to play a BioWare game and feel like you haven't accomplished a damn thing, so that was kind of a disappointment, but on the whole I thoroughly enjoyed the game and look forward to its sequel. I'd really like a chance to see my Warden again, though. I sorely miss Ferelden.

The Witcher was a decent game with irritating combat and camera issues, atrocious VO work, and some pretty phoned-in writing, but on the whole was alright. I look forward to the second game, and I hope a third will come out and be even better. Evolution is key.

I don't understand this fanboyism. It doesn't have to be one or the other, why can't you enjoy both?

CDPR really take every jab at them they can. I just hope TW2 sales prove them right.

Like others have said, I don't think it is directed specifically towards BW. It's just making fun of a trend observed in many popular RPGs lately. In fact they also make fun of their own game. In their case the shorter story.

Their also lauging at their idiotic sculpture add-on which is part of the collectors uber mega edition. But overall, it's definietely a stab at BW.

No way that's a parody of DA2... Those environments are gorgeous.

Also this^

They have been fielding a bunch of questions relating to their gameplay changes.  Has it been consolized?  Is it dumbed down?  I suspect that all this nervousness on the part of their audience caused somebody to have a creative spark that resulted in this rather polished spoof.  The funny thing though is that many of us (reading the comments) would gladly pay for journeying with this Bard mandolin weilding character.  It's not the gore, or the fights, or the awesomeness of final kills that makes a game, but rather the love that is invested into its creation.

How can you consolize a game thats not going to be on consoles? Just sayin'.

You can't, but not everyone was aware of this fact.  However, the term consolize also seems to be associated with a  move away from turn based action, and that it seems has happened, so the confusion remains.  Anyway, here are some interviews:

www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108699-Witcher-2-Combat-Overhauled-But-Not-Dumbed-Down

March 23rd, 2011

"The combat has absolutely not been dumbed down," Gop said. "Nor has the game been consolized."

www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-11-25-the-witcher-2-were-not-afraid-of-dragon-age-interview
Nov 25th, 2010

Eurogamer:
Dragon Age II's combat is more action-driven than the first game's, and so is The Witcher 2's. Why are role-playing games becoming more action-orientated?Tomasz Gop:  You're right, but it's misleading for a lot of people. I can't say it's not true. It is true. Developers want to have more action in their games. Boring games are not good. It's not like you're changing the genre of the game. Role-playing games will not become shooters... I  mean, Mass Effect was an exception. OK, we're not doing Mass Effect. What I'm trying to say is a lot of things that were happening in role-playing games on a daily basis years ago are too hardcore right now. It's not like we're doing a completely different genre. This is what the role-playing game is right now.The story is never dumbed down. Good role-playing games kept really good story, and you experience the story in an even deeper way than you would previously because of better graphics, direction and cut-scenes.Combat is more spectacular. The means to express it is just to make it real-time. Previously combat was more turn-based. We don't have turn-based combat right now. It's a better means of expression.

Edit:  I don't remember W1 being turn based?  Maybe he is just refering to other RPGs in that last line.

Yep. Religion in our nation is much more prominent, and thus it tends to affect the things we can show in terms of sex.

Although implying people that dislike sex cards are purdish is fairly wrong. I Hate the sex cards because they juvenalize sex. Myself, I'd like to see more of it portrayed like ME1.

Not sure. I live in a country where a high % of people go to church, yet there is none of this faux-horror when a butt cheek appears somewhere (eg a video game). Grannies are quite happy to talk about sex straight after church. So, sorry, I'm sticking with "cultural" as my reason.

I wasn't keen on the Witcher sex cards too, although DA:O labelling romances as 'achievements' was also a bit ... iffy. I would have preferred it if the achievement unlocked at the end of the game, if that LI was still at +100<3. Or if they really wanted it to be 'romantic', then unlock the achievement post coronation, if you select the 'let's travel together' option (or if you follow Morrigan through the portal etc).

To this point, I found this from someone who has had access to the game:

www.ripten.com/2011/03/04/ive-played-the-witcher-2-it-was-like-fking-a-succubus/

As I made it out of town, I started to familiarize myself with the
game’s new interface.  While similar to the original game, I couldn’t
help but notice that the control scheme had become more…”consoleified”
No longer do you switch between your magical signs with keys on the
keyboard (although you can rebind them, and I likely will) but now a
radial menu pops up that lets you scroll through abilities.  Does it
work fine on PC?  Sure.  Is it a system clearly more suited to
consoles?  Absolutely.  However, that didn’t matter - it was time for combat!

Witcher's always had fast action oriented gameplay ... it just wasn't particularly good at it in the first game.

It has a game design suited to it though, single PC. DA2 would have been a better game if they had tried to make a single PC game ... party based gaming and high speed action don't fit together very nicely in a predominantly melee game (works fine for cover based shooting though, which is why DA is dead to me but I still have hopes for ME).

BTW, I thought he was making fun of Fable more than DA2.

"Perhaps this was because the game’s enemies do not scale with the character, perhaps it was, as Tomasz told me, that the game was supposed to feel hard and CDProjekt had been inspired by Demon’s Souls."

Now, that is exciting... The Witcher's lowpoint was combat... Demon's Souls lowpoint was everything but combat.

Must confess that I'm get excited by the changes, especially the "warmth" feel of the pubs.  Hanging out in pubs and playing mini-games has always been a fav for me.  I remember in one of the Might & Magics they had a card game that was completely addictive, amazing my character ever ventured out.

Considering that the whole premise of TW2 revolves around the fact that they made improvements from TW1, this video holds little weight.

Hah, yeah, I'm excited about that too... I love 'meandering'... Hanging out in bars, walking instead of running while in town, talking to NPCs, hearing what a badass I am for something I did previously... It makes me really feel it when the action gets going, or I have to leave the town to go down into a dungeon for 10 days. 'Diversions' like that are essential...

When it's just quest, quest, quest, with no downtime I just have no interest at all, I feel like I'm just trying to get it out of the way as quickly as possible... Clean up all those quests, so I can have a little downtime with the character... but before that 'downtime' every comes, the credits are rolling.

...On that note, my favorite films tend to be Westerns that have like a 2 hour tension build up to a 2 minute gun fight...

I hope there are those mini games again, I rather liked them in witcher. Everything really doesn't have to be about combat.

Downtime is an essential ingredient for me, as well as a nice place to have it.  Otherwise it does become nothing more than a "to do list" grind.  I feel that Bioware did this well in ME with the captain's quarters.  Liked being able to get away from the crew and reading/listening to the codex enteries and/or music.  It added atmosphere.  Then in ME2 they let you do a little interior decorating with the ships/fish/Boo.  After I finished it, my only contribution to the suggestion box was that a mini-game be added to your personal quaters laptop.  Was inspired by finding out that Legion was an avid gamer (Lair of the Shadow Broker), so thought it would be neat if I could play with my squad mates in an computer game similar to the funky green grid part of the Overlord DLC.  Maybe we could take on famous opponents like Blasto, the Hanar "Dirty Harry" :D

Related to what I was just saying, this just came to mind... Awhile back, people were asking the devs to patch the glitchy run-walk of the party members in DA:O.

"I understand that there is some desire to see the party walk majestically through Denerim, but I do not consider the behavior a problem, as the toolset offers any number of ways to make characters walk in cutscenes, conversations and ambiently."
-Mike Laidlaw

"Walking in and of itself was something we added to the game to try and please some of the hardcore RPG players out there, who may be accustomed to playing in a larger world. Personally, I could do without walking at all unless there are very specific floor puzzles, positioning, or pathfinding issues involved. I get very impatient when I am forced to walk, because I want to get to the next encounter, story point, or puzzle that will advance my game. Walking slowly might "increase immersion," but it also "decreases fun" for me. But that's my preference, and I acknowledge that there are tons of players out there who aren't me."
-Stanely Woo

And we were surprised by the Awesome button...?

For me the new combat was one of the major reasons why I didn't even consider buying the full game. As I said in another thread: I felt like Roger Rabbit doing Ninjitsu and I didn't even wait till it was over, I quit to desktop in the middle of a fight, seriously put off.

If its sword and sorcery, give me swords and sword swinging characters. Give me the animations to go with that, but steer clear of body explosions. That, most of all, was on top of my gamekiller list.
