No you may not like two games. you may only like one and then must buy from that game series forever. you are only allowed to like and jump to any other game if the first company goes bankrupt AND after a period of 5 years you haven't been able to learn enough programming to continue the series yourself, along with the rest of the fans in your predicament. After this point, you have a 6 month period to decide which other franchise you may find interesting and give a game a try. Leaving to a new franchise can only be done twice before the rest of the gaming industry locks you out forever. Sorry. Pick wisely ™

It is in the small print in the back of your game manuals. No-one reads those.

Small spoiler (plese avoid if you haven't played the witcher and intent to do).
I remember being given a quest to find out why someone's wife, I think, disappeared. (or was it fiancé) Anyway, this women went to a brothel ( i think) because her husband beat her. You have the option to attack the women in the brothel, to return the woman to her husband, or to just let her stay in the brothel.
How is this degrading and objectifying women...

And how is showing strong women that initiate and encourages intimate relationship doing the same?

SPOILER ALERT

In that quest, if you don't have a threesome it will result in an outcome that will cause said woman to hate you.  Also, that card is less than appealing

I don't see many people objecting to how Qunari women are subjected in Dragon Age. For the most part, the players just accept that that is the way the Qun works out. Why is it okay for the Qunari to have a rigid caste structure that impunes on individual choice, but the Witcher does not?

First, the Qunari do not treat women as objects to be used.
Secondly, at no point does DA invite you to participate in how the Qunari operate.

The Qunari force women into stereotypical roles which is no better, their attitude towards women mirrors that of the late 19th/early 20th century here in the west.

And yet qunari women are the only ones that can become tamsarans (a priestess) which is highest social rank.

And throughout history nations have had Queens but that doesn't mean women were not oppressed.

There is a difference between "could be a leader" and "has to be a leader."

I'd like to have enjoyed The Witcher. I heard so many good things about it that I ordered the enchanced edition on Steam. To me, its biggest failing point was no custom character creation (and yes, I get that it was a fixed protaganist based on the books).

I tried really hard, but I just cannot relate to playing a male character in cRPGs. I just can't care about them. I've rolled numerous male avatars in MMOs, even other Bioware games, but never manage more than a couple of hours of play. Maybe it's weird mental block specific to me...? I have no similar issues reading books or watching films following a male character. If I could have been a female witcher (as lore-breaking as that might have been) I think I would have liked the game. So long as I could collect male sex cards, of course.

Off topic now, but keeping my fingers crossed that Bioware at least continue to offer gender selection in their future games.

And this is completely understeandable if you don't enjoy play male character its normal you don't feel yourself happy with the game.. A female witcher isn't lore breaking the game mention a legend of a one of the strongest witcher a female one

You know, I don't get mad if people disagree with me. Disagree with me all you like. If you like the Witcher, good for you. I hope you enjoy TW2.
When I *do* get mad is when people hurl insults and misrepresent what I say:

For the last time: I am not a prude. I have no problem with nudity or sex. What I do have a problem with is one-sided exploitation.

I understeand hon but you can't attack a game that is designed around a male character.. If the witcher had a female character will be the same romances and erotic card... But the game is designed around a male character this is only the difference.. This don't means CD_ project guys likes to see woman ad a object nothing of that.. They have only a game with a male protagonist only that...

And therein lies the issue.  This sort of objectification demeans men just as much as it demeans women.  The Angry One can and should attack these sorts of games because it legitimizes and substantiates the sort of prevalent sexist attitude found in the gaming community (and in our world).

It is exploitation and it is abhorrent.

The Witcher doesn't have a female version and that's fine, but it does nothing to critique the objectification of women in Geralt's world.  It normalizes and celebrates it.  Two strong female characters (and one who'd I'd argue barely qualifies) marks them as the exception.  Furthermore, that drunken revelation that Geralt has does nothing also as we've now stumbled upon the age old characterization of women:  the madonna and *****.  Women are only good for two things sex and marriage.

It's just how I see it.

Not all woman in the witcher are weak and object.. the world is a dark one where its easy to find womens threated like garbage..but in the other side you have also strong woman with strong personality... The lady of the lake for example.. The scoiatel' female warriors,, Its not like all women in the witcher world are weak...Triss also is an important character with a great influence on the game... Her deal with politicians... So don't tell not true things

And yet the developers revel in it. They make the women all objects for Geralt to use.

I too revel in it.

I played mostly male characters until ME1 and DAO.

After playing DAO i loved playing female characters but it could have something to do with how well Bioware implemented the dialogue options with companions.

That was the best part of DAO for me and i think Bioware created something unique in that game that was not done before in any other game i played.

Projecting a Utopian society is easier to do in games like Mass Effect, which can be seen as an extention of a "Star Trek" vision of gender equality.  The Witcher is set in Medieval times and is based on set lore by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowki.  Having not read the books, I don't really know how the sorceress guild factors into the stories, but their strong influence behind the scenes was alluded to in W1.

Has anyone read the books? I've read the english translations, and there are some savvy women in em. Maybe the game is a little lusty, but the main two women were not completely objectified.

You’re all over the place love. So you hope people will enjoy TW2 but will laugh hard if it turns out to be a vacuous shell of a game like DA2? Do me a lemon and yourself a favour and stop chatting fart.

... a statement based on people being oh so glad about CD Projekt's apparent trolling of BioWare.
As in "you're all gloating so much I'm going to laugh if it blows up in your face."

Honestly why do I have to explain this? I'm not exactly subtle in my wording. Maybe I need huge sarcasm signs and addendums detailing what I mean specifically.

I've read the first one, and honestly I didn't like the portrayal of Yennefer either.  It looked to me like a man's pinup version of a strong woman, not a real female character.  Gaider writes much better female characters.

I don't recall BioWare ever saying anything about CD Projekt, and karma has already bitten them back for what they said about Square Enix.
I was just saying that the same could happen with the Witcher 2, and I'd laugh >>> at the irony of the situation <<<

That's because you have only read the first one.
Gaider girls are Xena wannabes compared to Yen.:D

The books have a lot of of strong female characters too.
Essi Daven, Rayla(the original one), Toruviel, Ciri, the mercenary commander Julia Abatemarco, Mistle(I am gonna throw a nasty spoiler here. She's a lesbian) Milwa, the elven outlaw "Spark".... etc.

Still, my favourite person would be.... *gasp* a lowly male and a Niflgaardian Knight Cahir Mawr Dyffryn. He rulz.
