I have the vague recollection that The Witcher sold in excess of 1 million copies worldwide, which is pretty good going. In any case, when a development house shows the goodwill CDRP has towards their fanbase, it’s important to show your support. On that note, I was pleasantly surprised at just how difficult it was to get hold of two copies The Witcher 2 collectors edition earlier this week.

For a game of The Witcher's caliber, 1 million is really not that great.  It's not disastrous but keep in mind that Dragon Age:Origins' sales were quadruple that.

Had the Witcher been multi-platform it would've sold more which is why CD_Projekt tried unsuccessfully to port it over.  It's not a surprise that the Witcher II is being developed with consoles in mind, they obviously plan to port it.

It's not disastrous? What? That was the first game from a European studio no one has ever heard before, selling 1.5 mill PC only copies in that circumstance was beyond any expectation they had. They will likely port this one to consoles eventually, usually much quality is lost doing something like this for a console but considering how perfectionist they are, it should be close.

Good luck to TW2, but a huge part of me wants to see it fall flat on its face like DA2 did. *evil smile*

I doubt very much that will happen...they spent well over 3 years making The Witcher 2 into a memorable sequel to The Witcher...you only have to look at the trailers to see the love and attention they have put into the game.

It might even rank as GOTY 2011.

"A game created by a team of independent thinkers immune to corporate priorities". Opposed to games made by EA focus groups. This screenie is really something, you dont see this attitude in the gaming business anymore.

Ahh something not seen in probably twenty years, its refreshing to hear that from a developer.

As to people saying TW1 is fail because they sold 1.5+ million on the PC alone is an idiot. It wasn't supposed to be sold outside the polish/european market, and was hastily translated/voiced for worldwide. You could tell by the bad english VA, and badly translated dialogue before the EE came out.

The Witcher was the first game developed by CD Projekt Red. Over 1 million sales for their first game with almost zero promotion / ads which is also considered as one of the best next-gen RPGs ever for the PC, isn't too bad I think. I have no problem for future Witcher console versions as long as the philosophy of CDPR in RPGs remains the same though. As a PC gamer, I don't want to experience more streamlined RPGs with "awesome" button-mashing features.

Sure. Bethesda made messages as well. In their manuals they boast about how they put care and love into their game and then you get a big turd and troll face when you put the disc into your console/pc.

And quite frankly, Reality Pump is one that cares about fan feedback. Remember Two Worlds? Bad voice acting, terrible graphics but decent RPG stuff? Two worlds 2 contains good graphics, good voice acting now and contains the crafting and RPG elements that people liked from the first.

Then we have Larian studios which is another company that values feedback.

Witcher 2 seems to be have dumbed down even more than DA2. That's not listening to fans either.

From Romantiq's image ...

BTW: Simple minded people think that nobody is reading those days, dear reader of this, we think that we can agree that this is bullsh*t, huh?
Same a s the fact that single player RPGs are dead, or PCs?
We sold 1.5 mln units game from dying genre on dying platform - so we somehow cannot agree ;-)

Beautiful. It made me laugh and cry (with joy) at the same time. Although TW is not my cup of tea (I simply can't play a male, I tried believe me, but it won't work right. I simply can't get *in* the game as a male PC), that gives me hope for the future of the RPG.

I think it refers to the amnesia of the first game, rather then suffering a relapse :)

While I totally agree with CD Projects intentions I don't think it is a smart move to make a video like this. It just appears a bit arrogant and could create enemies, however it also shows that they wont abandon their target audience. TW2 will be amazing, I just wish it they would be a bit more humble about it.

That was a good article on tw2, I thought this was relevant.

Destructoid wrote...
"I looked back on my experience with Dragon Age II afterwards, and BioWare's fantasy RPG now feels like it's in almost every way a mere toddler in the shadow of The Witcher 2. That's not to say DA II sucked, but a single village in The Witcher 2 already has more personality than all of Kirkwall. Moreover, the politics now run deep without treating you like a child for once. Characters feel human and treat you like an adult, the player is expected to deal with temporal jumps in narrative to keep up with the story, choices actually carry weight, and oh my god the breast textures!"

Reading this makes the wait for TW2 even longer.

The name of this thread is absolutely irrelevant to what the video that CDPR created is about. They created a video on April 1st (Fool's day if anyone still remembers) to troll their own game. The OP of this thread decided to mislead the da2 community and succeded because a lot of people bought it.
I don't see how they are being arrogant about it other than quote from the picture I posted.

"A game created by a team of independent thinkers immune to corporate priorities,..."

This could be a hint @ Bio but it could also be a hint at many other games and its entirely justified imo.

It's still the same past he can't remember and you will find out more about his past during the game, possiblity even what led to his amnesia.

I don't mean that as a personal attack.  I'm speaking purely on fiscal terms and in that regard the PC gaming community is next to worthless compared to the profitability of consoles.

The PC gaming community is what created the gaming market, and it is what keeps it running. Without PC gaming, these sh!tty consoles wouldn´t even exist.

Funny XBox is made by MICROSOFT. Don´t they do some stuff with PCs?

I can't begin to tell you how patently wrong this is, if not for your comment being out of bias, rather than reality. Console gaming started long before PC gaming did, if going by what you are defining here as PC gaming. Unless you want to go way back where techs made simple little games that were developed and played at work or in university labs, nothing remotely in the mainstream or made for posterity. In fact, back then (the 70s), games were console games or arcade games where you played them in bars or gaming rooms that were thought of as mainstream.

Ever heard of the Odyssey gaming console by Magnovox; that was the first? That came out in 1972. Then there was Atari (72 as well), and so on.Yes, there were PCs of which barely existed in homes, rather mainly labs, universities, etc where students, teachers and techs created their own little games, but that wasn't it until the early 80s PC gaming started to take hold. If anything, consoles evolved into PC gaming as the games became more complex.

I prefer and always will prefer PC gaming, primarily because I play a certain genre of games that work better on a rig, that being RPGs. But console gaming is the true money maker for game publishers and developers. It has always been that way. PC gaming is a shell of what it was even just 6 years ago. Am I sad, yes, but that is how capitalism works in spite of my preferences.

Read this if you like.

The Witcher 2 looks good, day one purchase! And best of all: no DRM, no 50 different pre-order items, no day 1 DLC, no promotional items and no silly Facebook game that's made to milk your wallet dry.

More on topic: how is that video trolling BioWare and Dragon Age 2? It's making fun of modern western RPG's in general.

Sorry, but unless you download TW2 from GOG, the hard copies will use Securom. But that isn't due to the devs choice from what I understand.

16 different endings? Wow,  i feel even more robbed by BiowEAr with their 60$ title while this one is 10$ cheaper
