The Witcher Trolls Bioware's DA2

The Witcher was the single most brilliant western RPG this side of Planescape: Torment.
The Witcher 2 is going to be massivelly killer, they know it and have every RIGHT to be arrogant about it. Their Collector's Edition is easily the best in PC gaming and right up there with Bioshock 2. There is love, ******, story and core FUN going into the Witcher, something they completely omitted in DA2.
When you have to fall back on "Enchantment?" to be funny, you're in dire straits.

See at first I thought you were serious, then I saw the bolded part and realised you're trolling.

Goodies included with collectors' editions show how much respect a company has for it's fans. High quality lithograph posters and 180gram vinyl albums are a hell of a lot better than "In Game Items" that don't even have their own distinct icons.

The Witcher 2 looks good, day one purchase! And best of all: no DRM, no 50 different pre-order items, no day 1 DLC, no promotional items and no silly Facebook game that's made to milk your wallet dry.
More on topic: how is that video trolling BioWare and Dragon Age 2? It's making fun of modern western RPG's in general.
Sorry, but unless you download TW2 from GOG, the hard copies will use Securom. But that isn't due to the devs choice from what I understand.
There is one....The Witcher 2: Assassins Of KIngs...Premium Edition with play.com exclusive Pre Order Bonus 'Ultimate Magical Suit' PC games

Quite frankly, there is too much pressure right now I guess on the North American studios to make games that sort of cut corners or merge things down a bit. With the Asian RPGs having a little bit of a different development path, I suspect the European developers are becoming a lot more interesting, especially to RPG fans.
I really love both Dragon Age games, and I didn't think that much of the first Witcher (though admittedly I just played it early this year so it feels very dated--and there are some flaws not worth going into here). From what I've seen in the previews, I suspect these guys will be doing a better job with their Sequel than Bioware did, at the very least in terms of graphics and presentation. I'm not entirely sure I'll enjoy the storyline--I feel there's less emotional attachments to TW unless you've read the books, and I think it's a little bland overall and a little "too dark" for my tastes--but I think it will make Bioware's engine look dated and emphasize how much Bioware "recycled" their levels.
Competition is a good thing. CDPJ has taken the best ideas from Bioware, and hopefully Bioware will do the following as well. Story alone is not good enough for a consistently good experience. If TW2 does really well then I can see that being a concern to Bioware and maybe its success will help them figure out how to improve DA3.

I don't want to see further sacrifices made in PC games because of consoles until consoles are fully superior to PCs (hah!) Tired of seeing low-res graphics meant for a puny consoles, not to mention button-based UI and control system I hate.
I've played through DAO twice and it never gave me the good feelings I got when playing/replaying The Witcher.

Awesome, a company that hasn't forgotten their PC roots. Have been looking forward to TW2 for awhile now. Have TW1 and the two books translated to english.IMO it's better and more entertaining than the DA universe.

I find it hilarious how we're think that a company that made ONE SINGLE PC GAME equals that they haven't forgotten their PC roots... I mean really?
Bioware made Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, Neverwinters II, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age: Origins.
CD Projeckt Red made The Witcher.
.... Hey CD Projeckt Red go teach Bioware a lesson for that one bad game called DA2! (**** all you want about ME2 but it's clear that ME has always been aimed for the more casual crowed with the first one being slightly more hardcore-friendly).

CDP has made two games now and while they still support the PC as their sole platform, Bioware no longer does. I'm not saying CDP is perfect or has a longer record than Bioware, but ultimately what matters to me is that their newest game is PC only and doesn't suffer from any concessions made to consoles. The same cannot be said of Bioware's latest offerings.Savber100 wrote...

Granted, time will tell if CDP continues down this path. Bioware's past no longer matters; what they do now is what matters.

CDPR is not going to be a PC exclusive developer for long. No surprise there.

Again, you can translate quality across any number of platforms. Bad design however, rarely goes anywhere.

Yes. But it is going to be PC Game ported to Consoles not other way around.
That means PC version will be more detailed. And about console version - honestly i dont care if this going to be good port or not.

Of course they'll have to port it to consoles. Thats a 80% of market.

It's not about exclusivity, it's about the QUALITY of a game. Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire are masterpieces, well into the sophistication level of the finest of PC releases. So is Heavy Rain and it has -sadly- yet to be ported.

I bought my PS3 just for those 2 (bolded).

RDR is a great game, LA Noire has potential with some of the most realistic facial animations ever, even when compared to PC. But LA Noire's graphics are weak overall and look last gen.

This at very least, means that the graphics and areas won't be scaled massively downwards to make it all work on consoles. If they do then decide to port it (which is a possibility at this stage), it is likely the game will have to be scaled down considerably.

Do you have a quote regarding your bolded text there (on lack of funds)? I've heard rumours they axed the console port of The Witcher because they had to scale the game down so much to make it work that it no longer met their quality standards.
But I've never seen a quote for that either...
Wouldn't mind knowing their reasoning for cancelling the project.
At any rate, I'm happy for them to go multiplatform, as long as the PC is the primary and is not restricted by the consoles.

The Witcher, a bestselling PC RPG from the Polish company CD Projekt RED, is releasing a sequel in May 2011. Titled The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, this game will once again put you in the shoes of the badass monster slayer, Geralt, and continue the story where the original left off. It will be possible to import your game saves, so the choices you made in the first part will be reflected in The Witcher 2.
The sequel will feature numerous improvements, such as better graphics, a more dynamic combat system, more armor types, and almost no loading screens. It is going to be fully localized in 5 different languages (Polish, German, Russian, English, and French). The plot of Assasins of Kings will be less linear and offer more different endings than the first game.
The Witcher 2 preorder details
CD Projekt seems to be going all out with their upcoming Witcher 2 release. I can’t remember any other recent video game that offered so many bonus goodies for the standard price of $50. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is available for preorder in three different editions:
Premium Edition is actually the standard version of TW2. It comes with a lot of extra content: a making-of DVD, an original soundtrack CD, a world map, a 16-page game manual, a 96-page game guide, a pamphlet about an in-game character, a “cursed coin”, and 2 papercraft figures (one of Geralt, and the other random). The pre-order bonus is a DLC which varies by vendor.
The retailers offering the Premium Edition are Amazon (Ultimate Swordman Suit DLC), GAME.co.uk (Mysterious Merchant DLC), GameStop (again, Mysterious Merchant) and others.
Digital Premium Edition includes digital versions of nearly everything offered by the regular Premium Edition: the making-of videos, MP3 soundtracks, downloadable PDF world map, game manual, guide, pamphlet and even the papercrafts (for you to print and assemble) are all there.
You can buy it at digital video game distributors like GamersGate (10% discount), GOG.com (no DRM, a classic RPG title for free), and Steam (achievements, Steam Cloud support).
Collector’s Edition contains everything listed in the Premium Edition, plus: a ~200 page glossy artbook, a computer-generated sculpture of Geralt’s head (marble imitation), a set of dice like those you’ve played with in The Witcher, a deck of playing cards with Dandelion’s guide to winning at them, three stickers, additional papercraft dolls, and a Temerian Oren coin (different from the one that comes with the Premium Edition). Check out all the CE bonuses below:

Very nice. If it was a full figure Geralt like my Final Fantasy figurine I'd probably get one just for that. The bust looks a bit non descript though I'd probably have to tell people who it was
If I did still have a gaming PC I'd buy it just for the extras anyway.
