I thought Bioware trolled their own fanbase with DA2. With every new piece of information I read prerelease, I couldn't believe it was true. Part of me still can't believe it. I don't understand the direction they took, at all. DA2 was the greatest troll ever conceived.

Just a few questions for those that played Witcher 1.
Geralt, how much can you play around with his hair.face etc? not at all?
weapons- he always seem to have those 2 swords, you dont change that at all?
controlling companions- they are like ME2 companions(limited control) DAO companions (basically same as the warden except in conversations) or no control at all ?

i would put in a pre order...but da2 pre order burnt my fingers, funny that.

Not at all.

Not at all. You can upgrade them or use a variation, but basically you stick with the two same swords and only increase your fighting skills with them, not the item.

Not at all, or rather, there are no companions. Sometimes you fight alongside someone for a short time, but basically Geralt is a loner.

To make a long story short, the Witcher is an entirely different game with a different base and can't be compared to Bioware's style. Geralt is based on a character from a book and his appearance pretty much what the author described in the stories. There's very few customization in the whole game, but it doesn't hurt, because the game and it's storytelling is not easily comparable to your usual D&D adventure. People who play RPGs mainly for freedom of customization might have a problem with that, but that doesn't make the Witcher a bad game at all.

Not true. While you always have two main swords (one steel and one silver), there are many different ones. With different names, models and stats. You obtain them from quests, buy them or find them. And they DO make a big difference.

You could also equip one of the other weapons your enemies drop... but there's not much point, as those weapon are not used in your combat style, cannot create chain combos and are therefore vastly inferior.
Though having some of them holstered can lead to cool alternate finishing moves using them.

Yea no face changes, but there will be lots of armor and gear changes in part 2. In the first there were multiple swords and auxilary weapons but less.
I dont think there are companions usually at least not in a group sense, hes friends might fight along side him however, though one of the quests in the Witcher 2 has you play as your bard friend for a bit so you can lure a succubus out of hiding. The bard needs to form a good song out of a few choices and sings it, some of the results were pretty funny when he gets it wrong. This is followed by a choice if you want to go into the Succubus lair when she invites you or return to Geralt and have him deal with it.

Geralt is a character based from a book so no you can't change him at all. His weapons though you can there weren't many tough honestly but you can change them and the number of swords has been increased in Witcher 2 also with more properties on weapons. Witchers carry two swords at least all the time. Silver Swords are for monsters and beasts and their regular steel sword are for use against people or humanoid things like a mutant.

Witcher 2 wil have companions and they will be more like in Mass Effect 2 where you can't control them. I tihnk only 1 companion at a time now but the companion you have with you can actually affect a conversation in the game leading to more openings in said dialogue or to combat. Ie. Zoltan Chivay a dwarf may start a fight while Triss may help you further learn about some issue.

Witcher 2 preview Scroll down to the last paragraph on the first page and you can see how dialogue and character's react. One thing ill say about dialogue. The npcs don't always just stand there, there is movement and more then 2 npcs can talk at once. There is banter to.

I still don't understand why it must be one vs. the other... they can be BOTH enjoyable gaming experiences. I'm in the course of my first playthrough with DA2 and i don't consider it the horrible game that many people advertise, even if it has significant flaws. And I don't see why I shouldn't enjoy W2 too.

Besides, Witcher 2 is not out yet, I'd keep my mouth shut until it's released, just in case...
And I will never buy the first version, considering the mess that was Witcher 1 at its release.
I appreciate the style of the company though, they seem to have a lot of fun and good spirit! :P

tW2 could be horrible - I don't believe it will but the inclusion of QTE does worry me, as does CDPR skipping lore like Triss being scared, and as mentioned tW1 was bad when it was first released - or not great anyway - they did fix it, and I believe they have learnt their lesson.
Also unmodded tW1 is a it weak gameplay wise - at least on normal it got insanely easy shortly into the game - and while the rythm based combat sometimes worked, it was also boring at points.

Now DA2 wasn't a good game for me, on it's own it would be decent, but paired with DA:O it's a bad game since it lowers the quality of DA:O as well with retcons and so on ~

So both could be so so, but for me DA2 isn't good at the moment (and well they could fix it, but I doubt it since they like it, thus very little to fix).

And I still like BioWare, and almost all of their games, just not DA2 (or NWN OC)

You can completely disable them.

Besides, TW1's whole combat was one big QTE, so they aren't anything new
