But that's an entirely different argument all together... One we can have, but I'm still on the first one, which is that the sex scenes themselves were no better in DA:O/DA2 than The Witcher... There's no grand distinction between polygon-sex and art-sex.

I was never having that arguement. It was all you. I was only ever discussing the trivialization of romance by making it a collectable trading card game.

The cards aren't tradable and how is this any different from the romance achievements?

There weren't any in DA2. (well at least on the PC.)

There were. Not individual ones but there were still achievements for initiating and finishing romances.

And yes, the PC has them too.

But... you are arguing that. You're saying that by the mere presence of a sex card, the romance is trivialized. That sex scenes that do not include sex cards are automatically deeper.

And this would secure Skyrim dominance against 2011 rpgs and beyond.

I can hear this echoing...somewhere. Anyway, join the fan bois. :wizard:

Not a fanboy just stating fact. I was hoping DA2 would be a top rpg. While the game is quite fun, it's nowhere near the hit that it could have been.

Today roleplaying game consist of..

- Quest Giver - You can't miss them anymore. All npc that can give you quest will have a big ! .It's expensive to create sidequest . So because of it we make sure you won't miss any of them.Make sure to do all of em like a good boy.!They will always give you experience .It's important when everything level scale with you.

- Questing  - Searching?Ppff overrated . Now we will introduce a BIG X at the end of each  linear map  .No more game where you struggle to find what you need to do.

- Challenge  -  Complicated set of armor?Weird statistic?Improvisation?Completly useless .We will make thing very simple for you .You level up ,enemy drop better loot .. and well .. 'Ahem' Let's move on.

No need to get money for that dragonbone armor in the adventurer mart shop that would help you against that Red Dragon that keep kicking your ass.Noo , Noo , nooo!!Just do the quest you can do because we will never give you quest that you can't do.Everything will level up with you !!!  'Geez that make no sense lol'

- Dungeons .. You mean Dungeons? Those place where we used to make you explore with deadly traps and evil beast at each corner and with puzzle to solve? :o

Way to complicated .. We don't want you to think . .We want  you to *WATCH* our expensive cinematic after each  combat that you .... did you actually play?

:D Pre-order 6 month before and you will receive free DLC :D

Fortunately, I'm not really looking for deep relationship development in cRPGs... but atleast TW doesn't pretend that the relationships are deep. Geralt had a past love that he lost, and he'll never feel that way again, so the sex can be trite... What was Dragon Age's excuse?

You can count me in that market segment as well, so I do prefer the lighthearted version.

Also, luckily for Geralt, he can't remember that he'll never feel that way again... only the bartender knows it... lol

See that's not remotely the same thing though. There was not an achievement for quantity of sexual partners. Only having a full romance with the person of your choice.

In my first playthrough I romanced Shani, obviously because I like her better. In my second I wanted to give the child to the witch because after the first playthrough I thought she may be a better caretaker. Obviously that prompted a romance with the witch and Shani didn't want to see me anymore. Logic fail. As many others as well because if you try to do something different from the 'obvious' you get stranded. That's the same problem DA2 partly had.

You gave the child to a woman she totally hates instead of Shani? No wonder she hates you.
Imagine your almost-girlfriend would take care of a child and then you give the child to the woman she hates more than anyone else - do you think she´d just ignore it and still love you?

The child has some magic going on and the other woman is a sorceress. I don't even understand why the hate, and obviously there is no way to find out either. Jealousy? Anyway the game continued as if had this party of friends done even though I didn't so I quit because I hate if games assume you did things you didn't just to push you somewhere.

And this is different from acquiring a sex card how exactly?

Once again, the video is a criticism of the industry as a whole. And I think the industry deserves some criticism.

It deserves a good kick up the ar$e for the complancency that's set in, up until this year gaming was moving forward in many ways, eg story and technology, now it's like the passion to deliver a good overall experience is fading to be replaced by gimicks and DLC.

When Bioware states "Push a button and something awsome happens"; I guess they are speaking to a new generation, awsome to me was first time stepping out of the vault in Fallout 3

And a sh!tty one at that. The Merrill "sex" (well, actually dry humping) scene was so f*cking bad it almost ruined the romance for me (which would have been awesome cos Merrill is just the most perfect girl in this universe).

If you're looking for porn, then why in a video game? Just curious.

What so if theres sex then its automatically a porn?  Sex is such an essential part of any living being's life, I don't see why it can't be in a video game.  Its not even interactive.  It is just a scene showing the kind of attachment the characters have with each other. Personally I don't ike Bioware's appoarch with romance and sex, because it always end up with a sex scene like its an achievenment or some sort of reward for the player.

Well the fact of the matter is, Shani and Triss think you´re a big stupid f*cktard if you give the child to the other one.
Whether or not this impression is justified is actually irrelevant.
Considering that everyone on this forum wants consistent characters with their own personality it seems hardly fair to blame Witcher for having exactly that.

No what I'm saying is you got a card, not a romance. There was no depth past that. Which reduced the whole thing to a card collecting game rather than a full relationship. If it were deeper, the card part would have been irrelevant to me.

Sex =/= love. I bet if having regular sex with random people wouldn't upset the wife/girlfriend, then most men would have it. Sex has nothing to do with attachment or depth of the relationship, or are you telling me that if your LI dies you will be more sorry if you had 'sex' before? I find the words 'I love you' (or any other implication) much more important than naked skin. I don't mind sex scenes, I am not a purist or conservative person. I just don't get it that people actually complain about the lack of it in a video game. That's a bit gross.

The point is, the Witcher doesn't. It is called generic character. They are both females, and possible LIs, so they must hate each other. No explanation needed. How is that having a personality? If you could talk to one of them about it and give them your reasons it would show that there is something like depth to it. Other than that I rather find bland and stereotype.

You do realize that both Shani and Triss ( ... the actual romances ) play huge parts in the actual game, right?

that was such a great moment... and i agree, that was such an unfortunate statement and sadly a path that bioware seem to follows recently... to make everything easy, immediate and spectacular... that can seem good on paper but in the end is ruining the genere with flat and uninteresting games

well at least bioware have good stories to tell, but is kinda sad to see the oversemplification of the last games

And, Triss (my choice) kept on requiring me to do boring old mature things... deal with the child... mingle at the party and put a fake smile on my face...lol

Just so you don´t get a wrong impression of me:
I didn´t complain about the lack of a sex scene with Merrill. I complained about the existing one being complete sh!t.

Thing is, the ones in DAO (all of them) and the Liara one in ME1 were done greatly. So I kinda looked forward to the one with Merrill, expecting something as good or, in fact, even better because Merrill is more interesting than any other LI in DAO or ME.
And then you got this sh!t.
Now I wish there hadn´t been one at all. Would have been so much better.
It was too early in the relationship anyways, Hawke and Merrill should have waited a bit, not going from "I love you" to "firkst kiss" to "sex" within..... 30 seconds?!

To be honest, I got a different impression. But playing Witcher is too far back for me to discuss this in any detail, so let´s agree to disagree:)

Come on who here hasn't tried pawning that doom magnet child off on the woman they care the least about. Then you can't repair the damage. It's a bit contrived.
