Not that I am against framing the story's conflict between mage and templar, but I feel that alot of the things that the Templars do harm the native people of Krkwall even if they are non-mage. It's almost as if the templar use mage issue as an excuse to rule with iron fist and exert control of the life of the everyday people.

Just imagaine you live in Kirkwall, you have to constantly deal with some armored knights kicking down your door searching for enemy. You live in constant fear that you might get caught templar/mage conflict and become a collateral damage, and god forbid you should develop sympathy for mages. Plus you have bear the constant interference in your own political affair by a religious order.

Why does Hawke has to be pro-mage to fight the templar? Why can't Hawke be the true Champion of Kirkwall and fight for it's population to overthrow the templar's tyranny. Screw the mages.

Because then it wouldn't foster in the war between mages and templars going on while Varric is telling the story to Cassandra.

The Maker has given the Chantry (and the Templars) their authority. If the Champion does not accept this, he/she is a a heretic who deserves death and eternal damnation. Listen to sister Petrice when she talks about the Qunari.

Probably because we have little choice in the matter. We don't have much control over who Hawke is (since we pretty much guess at what he'll say most of the time), we have no control over his religious beliefs, and we're forced down a linear path. I wish we had more choice when it came down to Hawke's character or what paths we can choose. I don't think DA2 is a bad game, but it's very limiting for an RPG.

I felt a bit like this. It seems to be assumed my anti-mage character feels that way because they're some big believer in the Chantry instead of having some personal reason (like I don't know ...Quentin). Like when Anders is writing his manifesto and tries to change your mind with it on a rivalry path. His whole argument assumes that you believe Andraste thought mages are bad, therefore they are bad. Kind of wanted an option that said 'balls to Andraste and the Chantry'. Same with wanting to fight the Templars. Hating the Chantry isn't the same as liking the mages.
