Actually, any frame rate above about 30 fps is too fast for the visual system to respond to. Audition can sense 100 nanosecond jitter, but the visual system simply doesn't perceive more than 25-30 frames per second. The neurone dynamics in the system smooth things on a 30-40 msec time scale.

Here is a nice visual comparison of 15 vs 30 vs 60 fps. 60 fps is much smoother than 30 fps, in my gaming experience too.  www.boallen.com/fps-compare.html

So has there been any actual news on the patch? Other then they are working on it? Its been what, 30 days since release? If this turns out to be a delayed because of consoles, I am going to be annoyed :P

One of the Bioware mods (Luke?) posted somewhere that the patch is being certified for each platform, and they'll push them independently whenever Microsoft/Sony/EA approves their respective platforms. But I assume it's the same patch, so in that sense it already has been delayed by the consoles, because the PC didn't get any hotfixes or smaller patches in the meantime.

I will (re)confirm that this will not be delayed due to the status of the console patches.

First, why is this discussion in the patch update thread?

Anyway, this is sort of a loaded question.  The human eye can't detect the changing of the frames themselves past something like 24 FPS; that is, you can't detect flickering as the frames are flipped.  However, the eye can easily detect motion stuttering in games at 30 or 60 FPS because of the lack of motion blur.  The eye can't detect the frames switching, but without motion blur the eye can easily see that there's a empty gap between a fast-moving object that went from one side of the screen to the other in a frame.  Movies get away with lower frame rate because the film captures that blur when the shot is taken, so the frame in a movie would have a smear across the screen where the object went, and the eye would interpret that as motion.  Without the blur, the eye sees an object teleport from point A to point B.  But the higher the frame rate in games, the less the object moves in between frames, so the teleport effect gets less and less noticeable.  Conversely, the faster objects move in games, the higher the frame rate needs to be to convey smooth motion.

Due to what will it be delayed, then?

This is just a clever concession that the PS3 patch is releasing first, isn't it?  Dastards!  I bet it's all flowers and chocolates over on the PS3 tech support forum.  <_<

i just hope the new patch makes the game more compatible to nvidia and ati graphics cards because the frequent crashes and stuttering fps is getting annoying but i'm crossing my fingers anxiously for today

That guy is a tool...the 30 and 60 are the same...the human eye cannont tell the difference and if you can your only thinking they look different...they are the same at least to the human eye:whistle:

Any chance the patch will be out before April 30?

Considering you need to launch DA2 to redeem that nice ME2 download Bioware has offered, that'd be swell. ;)

That is probably the best ETA we can expect for now.

No no, there will be news about the patch update on this Friday (I think I heard that somewhere) but not the actualy patch. I think we will probably be get the patch at the end of next week or so.

Credit where credit is due, they've told us what they can... It's too bad that they have to wait for approval for console versions of the patch...

I hope Bioware and EA will learn an important lesson in customer service from all of this, tarnishing their brand and getting not-so-good reviews. I think this is very ironic: EA spends so much money advertizing, and trying to get the "call of duty crowd" buying the game, only to end up rushing to patch the game for a fraction of the people who bought origins.

You don't need to launch DA2 again, you just need to have activated your "Online Pass" (which opened the Black Emporium for you) at some time in the past.

After that, you can follow the instructions on http://bioware.social.com/ME2offer and start at Step 4, to get the ME2 code, then go to the EA Download Manager to get the game.

Don't need to be playing DA2 at all to do this.:wizard:

Ah? Good to know :) I guess I got confused by these instructions on how to get ME2 via DA2:

2. Start the game and log in using your EA Account or create a new EA Account

But if you don't need to do this, that's awesome :) Thanks!

Amen to that can't say i care for activision or their whole "call of duty" franchise though i have to admit that had it not been for the graphics or the bugs people would be more fond of dragon age 2 that and more areas or kirkwall to go around in but i guess the future dlc or expansion packs will probably take care of that but i don't know personally i don't listen to critics or their reviews i don't think dragon age 2 is as bad as they make it out to be its a good game it just needs some polishing which is why i hope bioware releases another patch or texture pack for the low-res armor in the game which i'm sure a lot of people have noticed right now i'm playing dragon age 2 with 15-25 FPS waiting for that patch. Also for that patch with the consoles each version is independent so they won't all be released at the same time so if we're lucky we'll get the patch earlier than the consoles
