This game was working just fine before, but now when I click to start the game, nothing happens. I don't get an error message, and I tried verifying the cache and reinstalling even. I want to finish the game so I can import my character to Mass Effect 2. Any suggestions? I am using Windows 7 64-bit and I have a Phenom II x4 965 with 8gb ddr3 and a Radeon 5870. UAC is disabled, as always.

You've done everything I would have suggested for ME1.
Taking a page from the ME2 troubleshooting rulebook, perhaps you could try moving the contents of the Documents\\Bioware\\Mass Effect\\Save folder elsewhere and seeing if the game will start then?

When I had task manager opened at the same time as I tried to launch the game, I noticed the executable appear on the processes list, and then shortly disappear. Just to clarify further.

I am having the same problem with mine, and i noticed that when i launch it it shows in task manager like you said but another program also quickly appears and disappears..(werfault.exe) its a windows program that does some kind of error or log reporting but i don't know why it is opening.
