The Arishok is a joke. He's a pathetic loser who rather target easy victims like Viscount. If he was really aesome he would have actually targeted Meredith at the end of act 2 when he was taking over Kirkwall but he doesn't have the balls to face her.

Not to mention, you lose a lot of 'cool points' when you make the Kirkwall templars come acorss as saints in how they treat their mages. Not to mention, losing even more cool point when you commit mass murder over a missing book instead of tagteing the actual thief. The Arishok is just like those religious fanatics that murder innocvent by standers because of some douche across the planet burned a book. Makes me sick.

The only time the Arishok ever came across as 'cool' when he was putting that one dwarf in his palce. Otherwise, when I had the option for a duel, I refused, because I ultimtaely realzied, the Arishok didn't deserve the 'honour' of facing me a duel.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Ha.  I passed on the duel because I figured, if I duel him I get to kill an oxbeast.  If I don't duel him, I get to kill a roomfull of oxbeasts!

But seriously, I was very annoyed by the dialogue options they gave us for the Arishok.  Even the hostile responses treated him with relative respect.  There was no way to call him on his cowardly hypocritical murdering ways.  There was no way to tell him that the only way his worthless Qun was getting his book back was if they came back in a week to change my chamberpots.  C'mon Bioware, seriously, that's not cool.  Shepard gets to deck reporters and Hawke has to make nice with a murdering communist mutant?

Because for the story sake Hawke needed to gain the Arishok's respect. Or it would make even less sense why Hawke was even involved as a key person.

What?  No he didn't.  Hawke becomes Champion by saving the city from the Qunari, not by getting their respect.

Haaaah, Varric sure does lie a lot. Clearly that's only what he WISHED to be happening. Obviously real Hawke is a male, but he wanted it to be like this.

EDIT: Oh and clearly photoshop'd! Champ armor at that stage?!

Varric's lies actually center around that bearded chap.
Varric has a terrible case of beard envy you see.

You might be on to something about that beard envy... It is propably the reason why he makes a manly man like Hawke appear as woman in the stories! Ha-HAA!

The reason the Viscount names for asking Hawke to deal with the Qunari is because they have dealt before and the Arishok asks for Hawke to come to him. The Arishok only asks for Hawke because he/she has gained his respect. Even though this is still no good reason for Hawke to get involved. That would actually be Aveline's job. And as you can see she performs rather badly.

Atleast she's a complete dolt when it comes to romances! But otherwise she is not a bad Captain of the Guard.

Idk, as far as I have seen Hawke is the one killing the bad guys, not Aveline or her guards. At best they get in trouble and hawke has to help out.

True, but hey. They are almost always fighting something unnatural and stuff. Give her a break, she has disadvantage already.

Hawke kills the bad guys that they don't arrest. We have to assume that there were more than two people going to the chantry during all those years that weren't sisters, brothers, mages, templars or a single Qunari.

Edit: Or Hayders crew, Seamus or the Viscount.

That has nothing to do with their interaction in the throne room.  Besides, it was that he had respect for Hawke as a warrior, not as a person.  You can think someone is a foul pustule on existance itself and still think they're good to have around in a fight.  Even if storywise Hawke had to have his respect as a combatant, it doesn't mean Hawke can't tell him what a cowardly, pathetic, hypocritical, ugly, delusional, foul-stenched sub-human animal he is.

Crazy Meredith wins, no contest. The fight was easier but you had an entire party + a bunch of extra allies, and by the end of act 3 you probably have access to a few more CCCs. Fighting the Arishok and his retinue with just your basic party isn't much of a challenge either.

Even with that in mind you've got to acknowledge that she hits like a bag of marshmallows. Whenever she hit my (Mage) character on Nightmare I came away with what amounts to a papercut.

Arishok charges. Meredith jumps 200 feet into the air. Arishok hits wall. Meredith lands on Arishok. Meredith makes horn soup for supper.

To those who say he is a coward, whatever:

You should watch the *Rise to Power*-Trailer again, where he alone powned more then a dozend knights on his own.

Knights? Those wimps looked like the supposed City Guard, which really speaks for itself.

Though I agree about his badassery. Crazy guy carved his way through hundreds of guards at least.

Really, the same type of generic grunt Hawke goes through 100 of on a slow day?

Also the trailer is non-canon.

I think the Arishok would win if Meredith uses the sword she has when she bursts into the throne room after you kill him and she looks all pissed off. But if she gets to use the Souledge then the Arishok is ****ed.

The Arishok, obviously, due to the dual advantages of being qunari and male.

Arishok, because he alone can dual wield 2, count em' TWO double-handed weapons. Plus, at the stage where Meredith dosen't have her big glowy sword. the Arishok slits her throat with the little pointy bit on his axe. Nuf' said.
