I was wondering can you give me a basic step through as to what to use in combat now? IE: the order in which to use my new abilities. Just tried out the new re-spec last nite looks great but I'm not sure in what order do I use them.
any advise you can supply would be very helpful

I'm new to the game but just read through your guide, and I'd like to ask a couple questions regarding attribute distribution.
What kind of thought process led to the "enough dex for gear, then max cun" strategy? Here's the way I'm looking at things right now:
Dexterity raises crit chance by 1% per point. If you're looking to max the chance out, this is the easiest way to do so.
Dexterity also provides +0.5 damage per point.
Cunning raises critical damage by 2% (going to assume Assassin here) per point.
Now...at 100 base damage and no +%Crit Damage, we have:
Hit for 100, crit for 200.
Adding 1 Dex means hit for 100.5 and crit for 201.
Adding 1 Cun means hit for 100 and crit for 202.
If we had 50 base damage and +100% Crit Damage, those numbers become:
Hit 50 and Crit 150 normally.
Hit 50.5 and Crit 151.5 with one point of Dex.
Hit 50 and Crit 151 with one point of Cun.
So the optimum stat distribution varies with your character's statistics before modification. I'm going to poke around with some equations and see if I can figure out a good way to max things out; I'll let you know in this thread if I come up with anything.

Ok what I'm asking is when in battle isw there a certain rotaion to use the abilities/spells on the tool bar at the bottom of the screen? In order to best effect the outcome of the fight, I mean you don't just pick a target and let her just swing away at it do you? there must be some sort of order in which to give her "Hawke" instructions on how to carry out the fight?
I hope that this helps you understand better what I'm trying to get at!

My guides are meant to equip you with everything you need and need to know to be successful, but the rest is up to you. I can only help people along so far, but I can't actually play the game for them; that would rob them of the satisfaction of beginning to come into their own, and be able to go 'oh, I understand now why he said to do this, it's because of that', etc.
The best advice I can give you there is to watch my videos. Instead of just watching them as me being gorgeous and amazing (hard to do, I know), try to go down to the next level of thought, and figure out why I'm doing the things that I am, at the time that I am doing them.

Twin Fangs when you want to lay the hurt on something, but not quite as bad when you need to assassinate.
I tend not to Mark of Death right before an Assassinate, because it leads to those oh so juicy crits.
Vendetta for getting to those annyoing ass mages (especially useful when they're casting something that'll lay down the hurt), or to get assassins before they manage to stealth.
Backstab if you have extra stamina/everything else is on cooldown. Explosive Strike when something staggered, and you have a maxed out chain.
Hope that helped.
Edit: I was a little bit hesitant to keep playing like this after I read the patch notes, but then realized that while bosses and lieutenants can no longer be one-shot, mages/assassins/named quest mobs can still be obliterated outside of existence, and Assassinating a marked assassin is SO MUCH FUN!

The stagger thing makes me kind of sad, actually, since i was trying to modify this a bit to use Fenris as my tank rather than Aveline. I'm so tired of her, and Fenris ROCKED as my tank in my mage playthrough. So much so that on the later missions where i was forced to take aveline, i had trouble surviving. And, well...he's just so f-in COOL. "Fenris, make him talk".

Base Damage (is this solely from weapon, or are there other sources of damage apart from Dexterity?
"Base" Critical Hit Chance (pretty much total crit chance minus the Dexterity component)
"Base" Increased Crit Damage (once again, everything except Cunning)
Having these numbers would make it much easier to optimize character attributes, though I'm unsure as to the total number of assignable points that I'll have by the end of the game.
I'm basically treating the Dexterity/Cunning dilemma like so:
Hit Damage = Base Damage + (Dex-10)/2
Bonus Crit Damage = Base Bonus Crit Damage + (Cun-10)*2
Crit Damage = Hit Damage * (2.0 + BonusCritDamage/100)
Crit Chance = Base Crit + (Dex-10)
Average (overall) Damage = Crit Damage * Crit Chance/100 + Hit Damage * (1-Crit Chance/100)
This is while treating +Atk Speed modifiers as constant between all builds, though adding those into the calculation would complicate things quite a bit more.
Does all this sound reasonable to you?

Actually that's wrong.
The basic critical damage modifier is +50%.
So with no additional critical damage modifiers it would be:
Hit for 100, crit for 150
P.S. Love your guides, Arelex. And your style too. Great job on them. Thank you very much.
Should you feel like updating them sometime to post-patch mechanics, that would be welcome.

aww...i think it's the voice. or maybe the sahara-dry humor.
Specced right, he is actually a really good tank...not to mention the perverse joy i got of making him run around with three mages all the time

and the dlc weapons are very good, but aside from using the nature dagger vs elemental weaknesses, they will be outclassed by other (generated, the masterwork dwarven daggers from korval's blades) weapons until near the end of each act
and you are very welcome, my dear
