shadow is better

i enjoy duelist more

the whole reason i have taken so long in updating this guide is because i find shadow boring as hell, and shadow/assassin is now far and away the best combo

Wow AreleX, did I hear you right?! Are you going to come up with a guide for shadow/assassin or assassin/shadow rogue any time soon?

Well thanks for the straight to the point answer :P but you should definitely get a new guide out for assassin/shadow, or at least post the level progression for shadow, and if other things need to be swapped in. Purdy please? :) Just seems cooler for my rogue than the honourable (well...) duelist. Vendetta does sound damn cool though...

Ok disclaimer: I haven't tested this out yet but I will be soon.  Now with that said, I used AreleX Awesome DW Assassin guide to help build a shadow/assassin rogue via the Dragon Age 2 Talent Builder.

I'll test it out over the weekend and will let you know how good or boring it is :).

Can anyone point me in the direction of the tactic Self: Aveline being attacked: for, you guessed it, Aveline, cannot find it anywhere. I play on pc.

AreleX, does your Walking Bomb idea require Disorienting Criticals or is it still based on Overpowering Fog?

Using your guide and adjusting it my playstyle - without stealth or mark of death upgrades (both which I don't use much) I got this:

Repec at level 5 (which I usually am when I can get to Maker's Sigh, after opening chest at home):

1. Backstab
2. Unforgiving Chain
3. Explosive Strike
4. Speed
5. Blindside
6. Precision, Power (Tome)
7. (Assassin), Mark of Death
8. Merciless Strike, Twin Fangs (Tome)
9. Bloodlust
10.Reversed Grip
11.Pinpoint Strikes
12.Assassinate
13.Devious Harm
14.(Duelist) Annihilate
15.Throw the Gauntlet, Parry (Tome)
16.Vendetta
17.Sure Stikes
18.Blood Feud
19.Overkill
20.Harmony
21.Lightning Speed
22.Energizing Speed
23.Evasive Maneuvers

The level 6 skills may not be helpful right then, but it got me to unlock lightning and energizing speed sooner - which was the goal.

Would this adjusted set-up be alright on Hard?

Also, Merril, if I replaced her with Varric or Isabella, would that weaken your set-up too much? If not, and if its not too much trouble, could you give a suggestion on their build? The one reason I had this thought is because with Isabella on my team, chameleon breath and such helped out. I like the Anders and Aveline set ups very much.

Thank you very much for this guide, it was helpful.

You should use mark of death.

You're right. Redoing it to be exactly like this guide, but back-to-back instead of stealth and invisible friend here back-to-back is. Don't know why I never used mark of death before, its good.

Thank you for this guide

Thank you Arelex for this awesome guide, and I mean AWESOME. I'm relatively new to the game, try it on hard mode and now I even feel bad for the poor and miserable enemies who faced me. DW Rogue is just so overpowered that I'm trying nightmare now. What are the changes between Hard and NM? (Aside from FF).
Also, I want a playthrough with Isabella as a companion. I don't care going rogue myself (which I would really enjoy) or blood mage (following your guide). What class you recommend me and what party setup?
Thanks for the advise and your hard work doing this.

been playing this build for a couple days now in between work....and I find this build very fun ot play. I am already in Act 2 and am wondering about the DLC Weapon Packs if they are worth using or if there are better options.

Sorry for asking so many questions but if you need "Overpowering Fog" for this new shadow/assassin build wouldn't you have to put at least 5 points into the Sabotage tree?  Wouldn't that eat into purchasing your dual wielding, shadow or assassin skills making your Hawke do less damage ?

I notice that on your Mach 5 companion build that all of your rogues have "Overpowering Fog" so it must be good.

Excuse me if this sounds naive but I'm kind of new to DAII.

Given that AreleX doesn't like melee companions so much, I suspect that his approach is to bring along Varric/Sebastian and get Overpowering Fog on THEM.

That makes sense. I wonder how Disorienting Criticals be use with this build sense it requires obscurity to be effective. Maybe Chameleon Breath will be used?

So that means that your rogue teammate would be obscuring you, interesting.  Now, I'm very anxious to see this no tank shadow/assassin build! Why did I ever open my mouth, I can't wait any longer. I need the ultimate power, now!!!!
