I've made a new video of the (pretty damn sad) Act II mission All that rRemains. It's definitely outside of my standard fare, but I wanted to switch things up a bit. Don't worry, I'm not going to start salivating over Fenris or writing Twilight fan fiction (probably), I just thought it'd be fun to try something new.

All That Remains

Enjoy!

:wizard:

P.S - if you don't like the song, we're not friends any more.

Cool vid... and song ^^
who was that walking around casually while u were fighting? lol

** SPOILER **

Gascard DuPuis (sp?) if you spare him in his mansion he will show you where Quentin is instead of Gamlen. During the fight with Quentin he will turn on you if you don't pass a diplomacy/helpful check (I think.). I thought this mission was one of the saddest in the game. There were a few others but that one made me reload a save right before the boss fight so I could kill Quentin a couple more times.

Gascard Du****ingPuis.

I hope whatever Quentin possibly would teach you was worth a chest full of daggers, ***hole.

Beat me by what? A minute? I hate you.

Take Varric with you if you have DuPuis... it's... fun.

Loving this guide it's helped a lot with ideas for tactics and Aveline's talents which were the only things I wasn't sure on. Nightmare is a breeze now, though the prologue was still suicide-worthy.

Just started my rogue run based on this build. Feels like difficulty should read Normal...

Really a fantastic guide ^^, now I want to start a new game with a rogue :P .
But I have a question regarding Anders' Tactics:

"Anders (set to Ranged)
Self: Health <25% - Use Potion
Self: Mana or stamina <10% - Use Lyrium Potion
Self: Health >=50% - Activate: Vengeance
Self: Health <50% - Deactivate: Vengeance"

Should the part with "Self: Health <50% - Deactivate: Vengeance" be before "Self: Health <25% - Use Potion"?
Following the original tactics, in the unlucky case that he drops from 51% HP to 24% (or less) health, he'll use a potion before deactivating Vengeance, but as Vengeance negates any healing he shouldn't be healed. (to be honest I'm not really sure about potions, I never use Anders with Vengeance that much).
Hope that I was clear, english isn't my main language ^^".

I completely agree. There were a LOT of fights where I had to stop and check the difficulty afterwards, just because of how badly I destroyed them. That's what I love about this build; you're either an unholy terror or you're dead. There is no middle ground, and there is no margin of error. Tear it up or go home.

Very good catch! I noticed him being stupid with his potions and Vengeance a few times (namely Xebenkeck where he got mercilessly raped for a bit before I came up with what to do for him), but just figured it was Anders being Anders, and didn't pay it much mind. Thank you very much, I'm going to test out what I can do to make it better.

On that note, I've updated the tactics section, fixed a few things, and will try to add companion level-up guides soon.

For Aveline's Bodyguard, you can either set her to use it on Any, or Hawke's health <50%. I think the biggest difference is how many points you invest into WIL and CON with her.

I personally prefer Archery on my rogue, although I have to admit it's not as flashy. But there are no range issues, I can't really get knocked back, and my Assassinate hits like a truck with a bow. I never get hit, I never die, honestly tried DW for a bit but haven't found any reasons to stay with daggers in a long run. Unless of course I want to look cool or something, Archers are kinda boring..

Hey, man, I know how it is, reloading saves constantly, see what you can improve. After a while, you lose track ...

By the way, shame you're not doing anything with Merrill's Horror. :)

What the hell? You prefer evanescence to Rhapsody? What is wrong with people nowadays?!

P.S. Watching your vids make me wish I ran my rogue with a mage  for insane assassination numbers. It's still pretty awsome without brittle though :P 2 warriors for stagger means alot of lacerate dmg.

The 2 Dragon speed kills videos are making me tempted to go back to my Rogue. Where did you get that Templar armor?

may i suggest you move the deactivate tactics to before poultice sucking in order to ensure they cant possiby waste it. i.e rogue strike pushing them below 25%

Self: Health <50% - Deactivate: Blood of the First/Vengeance
Self: Health <25% - Use Potion
Self: Mana or stamina <10% - Use Lyrium Potion
Self: Health >=50% - Activate: Blood of the First/Vengeance

Ya know, I might try going with this for my rogue whenever a patch comes out and hopefully fixes Isabela's friendship.

I'm partial to shadow myself. I should watch a vid of vendetta or something to see what it is like.

Is there anyway we could get a list of how you spent the talent points for Aveline? I'm having some difficulty with this build. My rogue gets smacked around the battlefield all the time. Is battle synergy keeping mobs stuck to her?

I'm only level 8 with this build but it seems I have too many loose mobs running around and its proving difficult.

Also, thanks for the guides. They're great.

I'll just ask these questions here since I'm guessing most have rogue experience:

On my latest walkthrough I rolled a dw rogue assasin with max cun. And I noticed defense doesn't increase for higher rank mobs. But with buffs (heroic aura, arcane wall) it does, but again not above limit. I though the rank was an applied penalty, like with attack, which can be mitigated with high enough stats? Kinda sux that I have 32k defense, but still 80/60/40 (80/73/53).

Second, does anyone have a bit more info about obscuirng. I know it "makes you ahrder to hit" but I'm looking for something more crunchy like numbers. I tried gff editor but I'm not that handy with stuch things...

Flat 20% dodge chance, IIRC.

sabotin defense is capped at 80/60/40. the only way to break that cap is via duelist. duelists 40% defense allows to to get 80/80/80 defense

Yes  and 2 seperate rolls so if you have 80% defense and  20% obscure you have a (20%*80%) 16% chance to get hit by regular baddies, not sure how diminishing returns kick in for them though.

DW Rogue, at least in my experience, is a nightmare before lvl10 (ASSASSINATE!!!!!!!).  That being said, if you're having threat management issues I'd use 1pt Stealth and 1pt Taunt to try to keep aggro off of you and on to Aveline.

He should have totally used this song in a video...

www.youtube.com/watch

I don't really have anything much to add in regards to Mages that Zan Mura hasn't already covered.  I could list what I think are the most all around useful spell for Nightmare, but that's all subjective anyway.  Mages won't get the BIG NUMBERS single target damage like a Rogue can, or the sustained damage of a Warrior...they are more like generals than snipers or dervishes.  More satisfying for me though just because I like being able to manipulate whatever I want, whenever I want.

You level pretty fast though, no? Early game I had my rogue and varric having Power active. It's landing pretty nice, specially on rogues. And back to back is usefull if you/the tank wander off too far.

Pretty much what I've did. My problem didn't get better until I upgraded taunt. That extra distance really makes a difference.

Getting battle synergy did help. I think I got an armor upgrade too. My
defense and armor went up a lot and I stopped getting knocked around so
much.

Also, stealth is kinda wonky. It needs something like taunt where any enemies currently performing an attack on me get interrupted. I mainly use stealth in the beginning since it doesn’t work very well as a “get out of jail free card”.
