Here is my current Aveline build. If you're struggling, odds are it's due to one of two things (or maybe both): your Aveline isn't doing her job well or right, or you aren't helping her out when she's surrounded, or your Mages when they're being attacked.

Aveline is the centerpiece of this build; your success or failure depends not just on how much of the burden she can shoulder, but also how much of it you can lift, to keep her safe.

I will also add that it seems setting Bodyguard via tactics doesn't work, so whenever you leave your house, or use a gather party hub, be sure to re-activate it. if needed.

I'll try to make a level-up guide for Aveline today, I just reeeeally don't feel like doing it right now. For the time being, use the above to see what exactly you need from her.

Because you're so strapped for time when you have a guide that pretty much tells you exactly what to use and do to be successful, completely bypassing how long it would take on your own, right? Either read the thread and possibly learn, or don't, and leave.

I'm more than happy to help people who need it, and those who try and help themelves. I'm not catering to the obscenely lazy as well.

I see you took Battle Synergy and its upgrades, I'm a little surprised by this, seems like a trash ability considering the range required for all your companions to stay in.

I chose Battle Synergy because a large majority of the time, I'm right there in the mix with Aveline, and she's surrounded by enemies. Battle Synergy gives me increased threat transfer (which keeps the heat off of me, and lets me take advantage of Blindside), and damage transfer (in case she does somehow lose threat) is very nice to have, due to my tiny health pool.

Stack this on top of Elite Bodyguard and her Friendship passive, and I rarely ever fall under serious harm, even with my ridiculously low CON. The only real issue is adds spawning around the Mages, but that would be a problem no matter what you pick. I can take them out before they pose any real threat to them, though.

I've tried out both Bravery and Battle Synergy, and I prefer the latter, for the reasons listed above.

Rally is (supposed) to be used to give your companions increased mana/stamina regen, and it also gives the effects of abilities like Might, Control, Turn the Blade, and Elemental Aegis for a short time.

The Muscle upgrade for Might gives +25% critical damage, which is also passed on to me via Rally. When an enemy goes BRITTLE, I'm going to be using Assassinate, and Rally gives me increased critical damage on top of what I'd already be getting.

I have Aveline set not to use Shield Bash or Cleave if the enemy is BRITTLE so she doesn't replace it with STAGGERED, making me miss my chance at a high-damage Assassinate setup.

No! Don't do it! What are you having trouble with? Maybe I can be of assistance.

Also, I'm at the Arishok right now, I could record it if anyone REALLY wants to see, but I doubt it's going to be that much fun to watch.

:wizard:

Lol thanks for the little pep talk, I've bumped it up to nightmare again just because hard.. while it has its moments, is just a tad on the easy side, wheras nightmare is still like getting poked in the eye with a sharp stick.  The main parts I'm having trouble with are the areas with archers... so like... all of it? :P

Even when I delay rushing into the fight to give Aveline some time to draw aggro, the second I go and smack someone I have 3 or 4 arrows sticking out of me.  How do you avoid the arrows and the inevitable staggers that come with them?  Seems like I have a neon sign above my head that says "here's shep the rogue.. shoot him a few times and he'll die because he doesn't put points into con!" I don't ever seem to see you getting pegged with arrows.

Edit: go figure, the second after I post I watch the "Kirkwall" vid and see you getting pegged with arrows and spears (minus the stagger) :)

i didnt get answer so gonna ask again ..whats the armor that you use in Battle for Kirkwall or templar vs templar? i checked wiki and cant seem to find anything matching.

also no stonewall on Aveline ? how can she tank assasins ? often 1 such shot takes 70% of her hp with stonewall its 0. And what about shield wall (imrpovement of shield defense) i wonder if should i get it looks rly nice and probably would remove the need for stonewall vs sins.

I assume you use bodyguard on yourself ? I wonder if its needed or using it on anders wouldnt be better for martyr spam

She's answered that twice or more so far.

AreleX wrote:
I should probably answer that now, to avoid a lot of confusion.

The actual armor I have EQUIPPED is the Guardian of Enasalin, meaning it has those stats, but the MODEL of the armor is the Knight-Templar Regalia; I modded my save and swapped the models.

I think Templar Hunters are awesome enemies, and I wanted to get into their shoes a little bit with my appearance. The change is purely aesthetic, but I've gotta say, one-shotting a Hunter while wearing the armor and seal of the Order is DAMN satisfying.

Check your Anders/Merrill tactics, and set them to use Stonefist if you're being attacked. This has helped me get thrown around a LOT less. This, in combination with good use of stealh, got me through the game until I got the Etched Ring of the Twins.

Watch my later (most recent) videos, you'll often see some poor guy get mollywhopped by a Shanoa Lapiste rockfist the second he's about to hit me.

As for the armor, I've answered this like two or three times. It's just a model swap, I modded my save, and gave the Guardian of Enasalin armor the appearance of the Knight-Templar Regalia. The change is completely aesthetic, it does not effect the stats in any way.

edit: Also someone mentioned the Shadow spec instead of Duelist... And it seems that when obscured you get 25% crit dmg + another passive 25% crit dmg.. seems nice. The rest of the skills are kinda defensive or useless but still.. All those points invested and get nearly no damage returns seem kinda wasteful

Untill the obscure effect applied by Shadow Viel works like its suppose to, Vendettas range makes it better than the entirety of the Shadow tree.

Pretty much.

Like I said, don't get me wrong; I love to help people improve and learn things and have more fun, I wouldn't do this if I didn't. But I set aside a LARGE chunk of my free time, that I could be spending doing other things, to write these guides, update them, record videos for them, test things out for them, answer questions, help people, whatever I can.

I do all this, and you can't be assed to take the 5 or so minutes to read through the entire thread? Get the **** out of here, that's just straight up insulting.

I love all you guys, and am happy to assist any way I can, just please, PLEASE, do not act as if you or your time is more important than anyone else or theirs. Also, telling me that you're 'too lazy' to spend a little bit of time going through the thread, when I spend HOURS upon HOURS writing, playing, testing, etc. is the fastest way to ****** me off.

i've been watching your nightmare videos and i'm always as surprised at how fast things die
when i'm playing on nightmare, i need to pause and poke around positioning my party, else they just get two-shotted by unattended spawns, your party seems to position itself well enough without directions
also aoes and backstabs dont seem at all punishing in your videos... that spider ground aoe used to take me to 10% hp in 2 ticks and you ran in circles in it...
would very much like to see ancient rock wraith rogue fight of yours as it is undoubtfully the hardest nightmare encounter i've ever been to, and then i had to switch to bow.

It really comes down to good party synergy. I help to keep my buddies safe, and in turn, they keep me safe, be it with heals/support magic, debuffs/CCC setups on tough enemies, or knocking down enemies that are attacking me.

In the Varterral video, I had Aveline with Elite Bodyguard and Hero's Synergy, so I could pretty much perform Singin' in the Rain for an hour in the puddle and be fine.

Also, I have a video of my Rock Wraith fight here.

What's the group playing during your ARW fight? It's pretty good and it shows you might not be clueless about music after all!
Btw, do not rule out lacerate. With 2 warriors you can have a close to 100% uptime on stagger. That is alot of sustainable dmg.

It's music from the OST of Guilty Gear 2 Overture, done by Daisuke Ishiwatari. I also used his music in my Mach-5 Deep Roads Dragon video and my first ARW fight. Also, I'll be sure to include some more crappy euro metal in my next video just for you!

:P

I'm actually testing out Lacerate right now in Act III. It isn't horrid like I once thought, but it isn't really mind-blowingly awesome, either. It's definitely nice to have, so far, but it isn't a necessity, it's more of an option. The way I see it, though, once you're that late in the game, you should have your core build completed, and be able to pretty much do as you will with your points.

ALSO: If anyone has any vid requests for Act III, please make them NOW, as I generally lose motivation to play/record when I get here, and probably won't think to do it for any parts, save maybe the end bosses.

If it hasn't been pointed out already, both Blood Feud and Rally are bugged. If you use regular Vendetta on a target with Mark of Death, it'll work fine, but if you have the Blood Feud upgrade, it will actually do less damage than normal Vendetta. Supposedly. Also, Rally doesn't propagate the sustained buffs to allies, it's only good for the mana/stamina regen.

Also, the upgrade to Lacerate supposedly reduces the damage it actually does. I haven't tested any of these bugs myself, but the Rally bug at least is described in the readme that installs with the game.

First let me say sorry if this has been said in this topic, But im having problems getting these assinate numbers highest ive hit so far is 8k. Setting up on say a assasin pause Mark with hawk petrify with merri(get brittle up) unpause to get them both up and avaline hits rally like she should. Do i need to hit 16 for overkill or am i doing something wrong. I decided to give this game another chance after being completly let down after playing origins to death but your videos gave me hope but i think im messing something up here.

Any help would be great and thanks for the great guide.

Do you have the Annihilate upgrade? That's what gives you your huge BRITTLE bonus, not just Assassinate. Also, what's your critical damage % looking like?

The Rally sustain sharing has been confirmed bugged, so that's out the window. I'll make a build without it later, but for now, just ignore it.

Good call, I didn't have Merrill set up with the stonefist tactic at all, and Anders didn't even have the spell!  Makes me wonder what exactly I was reading to miss that.  Anyway, you're right, it does work wonders on the archers in NM, now just need to get my timing down and I'm golden.

Thanks!
