I'll just throw out a few things to check, Windows Help style.

- Are you sure the BRITTLE isn't being overwritten?

- Are you sure the targets are not crit immune?

- How many Mark of Death upgrades do you have?

- Are you sure your Mark of Death isn't running out before you connect with Assassinate?

- Are you sure the BRITTLE is actually proc'ing? It's incredibly random on higher ranked enemies, and sometimes won't connect. Keep your eyes open for the thorny spiral shape above their heads.

If none of this works, contact myself or the MS Paperclip for further help.

High Dragon I already did, and god was it stupid. Not worth watching, I'd have to cut out at least 7 minutes of him sitting on the goddamn ledge while Dog tanks the **** out of some fireballs.

Murder of Crows I have not done yet, that's possible.

Hybris I've been meaning to do for a while, but, as I said, my desire to play this game plummets when I hit Act III.

2/3 ain't bad!

Been lurking the site a while; finally decided to post for this.. Can anyone please tell me exactly what "Skip Tactics" does? Upon seeing it the first time in-game I wondered why they didn't explain it anywhere. I'm on my third playthrough and still don't know what this does.

The wiki says something like if skip tactics requirement is met then the character ignores all tactics for the rest of that battle, which makes no sense at all.

I read somewhere else that if skip tactics is met then everything below it on the sheet is ignored; which would make OP's tactics not work on brittle targets (aka also stupid and clearly not what it does). I've read the OP's guides and watched some videos; the guy knows his DA. So does anyone know for sure?

Tactic AI should run through each tactic from 1 -> 20 then cycle back to 1 and start over. It looks for your 'Do' condition. (Ally: >50, Enemy: Nearest Visible, etc) and then 'Action' (if move is on cooldown or not) Once it's able to complete a full line, it goes back to 1. So action:
Tactic 01: Self: Any -> Activate Mode: Macarena
Tactic 02: Enemy: Nearest Visible Mage -> Activate Ability: Wedgie
Tactic 03: Merrill: Any -> Activate Ability: Kiss
Tactic 04: Enemy: Nearest Visible Normal or Lower -> Activate Ability:Moon

Combat starts and the AI looks to tactic one, self any, condition is true so it looks to action then recycles back to start. Mode becomes active so next time it can't complete tactic 01 so moves to tactic 02. No mages found it moves to tactic 03 and performs the action then back to tactic 01. First two situations have not changed and Kiss is still on cooldown so one to tactic 04.

Skip/Go to Tactic XX will jump over the next (supposedly) or all actions between tactic and jump target if the 'Do' conditions get met. So need to be careful what you set as 'Do' conditions and where you place it.

@Liliandra

So if what you said about skip tactics is true, and if I understood you correctly..

Enemy: BRITTLE - Skip tactics
Enemy: Target rank is Elite or higher - Use current condition for next tactic
Enemy: Target of Hawke - Petrify

Would translate to: If nothing is brittle, but hawke is targetting an elite or higher -> petrify that target.
Alternatively, if something is brittle -> don't use petrify.

Yes?

I don't use Skip myself. But it should just jump over the next tactic. That set up should look for Brittle, then use Petrify. If Brittle it will look if target is Elite. If you only want to skip, make sure the next tactic isn't a paired line tactic set. So:
Enemy: Brittle - Skip
Enemy: Any - Shield Bash
Enemy: Target rank is Elite or higher - Use current condition for next tactic
Enemy: Target of Hawke - Petrify

If Brittle, AI won't use shield bash and will look if elite or higher, etc.

Always with the excuses! :P

How about the fight at the end when you're working your way to the Gallows, and when you fight the Blood mage, Pride Demon, and a metric crap-ton of Shades.

And all the bosses for the companion quests!  Castillon, Denarius, etc.  Especially Faith, so people who don't have EP DLC can see it.

Bonus epic points if your game has Isabela in party with threesome with Leliana import. :innocent:

ok... i dont see how you beat the rock wraith.. AFter his lightning storm thingy i send in aveline and try to taunt them buggers to attack her.. instead they all feel like attacking my Rogue and he cant move a single inch because he keeps getting "shocked" or whatever. Happens every single time even if i run in after aveline has attained agro. not to mention the thing 3 hits aveline and 1/2 hits my rogue if i happen to get in the way.

Either way this fight is boring.. But i really dont see how people seem to just be able to tank **** in act 1 when there simply isnt the gear nor the skillpoints to do this. I can setup my guys the same way with tactics and all but it doesnt matter

Then again... all these guys that make it look easy play on the console and im starting to wonder if they forgot to actually make nightmare harder on the console :P ... ok i kid, but it looks that way :P

Lightning resist runes, Ancient Leather Cuirass, and taking down the Profane adds before they can attack.

If I make things look easy, it's more because I'm well-prepared than anything else (though I am still probably the best player in the universe).

I love these guides -- So helpful even for those who don't play on Nightmare mode. You've inspired me, at least, to give Hard mode a shot.

Do you have any plans to do this as a mage, as well?

Good lord no! The classes and builds I use are the strongest possible in the realm that I play the game (no pausing, console, limited ability binds, etc), and Mages are the total antithesis of that; a lot of spells force you to pause to direct them, not to mention that with only 6 maps available, I'd frequently have to go into the power wheel to cast spells. Not to mention that doing all this is a very time-consuming endeavor, and I've already stretched myself pretty thin/

There are already quite a few (3? 4?) mage guides, and I don't feel like I'd have anything new or different or not already organized to add for them, as I did with two-hander and dual-wield

Not to mention that near-fisticuffs happen very regularly in Mage threads, something I want no part of. However, you can always let me know if you need help with any of the things I DO know a little bit about.

On occasion, I do. Most of the time, it's a very self-satisfied 'this is common knowledge' smile.

I'd have to agree, you really ARE the best player in the Universe and what's even more amazing is you're still modest about it... very rare these days!

Posted Image

On a side note, during the tranquility quest I was getting frustrated cause things weren't turning out the way I wanted.  I finally said to myself "Self, let's go watch an Arelex vid and see how he did it."  Long story short, I was getting so miffed about losing one party member to that damned templar hunter (and restarting it) that I failed to see how easily I was blowing through that portion of the quest at such a low level.  A tribute to your guide for sure.

That bug got me too, I tried to backstab that archer next to the railing and ended up on the ground floor, wtf indeed.

some gear question...

Amulet :dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Four-Fingered_Eddie%27s_Lucky_Talisman probably best
and alternative for low blade ?dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Poisonwood_Locket
108g - could use some cheaper version...

rings :
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Etched_Ring_of_the_Twins a must for 85g
the other one dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Puzzle_Ring_of_the_Black_Fox 88g
or this dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Bardin%27s_Folly 105g

this could be a cheap and useful option dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Demon%27s_Eye 7g
or just the +4% rit dam / 3% crit chance that you get somewhere from warden.

Belt : ??

armor : ?? belive champions and whatever falls ealier.

Daggers:
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/The_Low_Blade
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Finesse
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Bassrath-Kata_%28dagger%29
dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Blade_of_the_Many
i think all those are equal ?

I'm glad the guide is helping you do well, it's always good to hear people enjoying it and improving from it.

In the Hybris video, I'm using the Hands of the Carta, unless you're talking about something else.

I'll probably do an Accessories section next, since there's just so many to choose from when you're playing a Rogue. For now: BUY THE ETCHED RING OF THE TWINS FROM THE NEXUS GOLEM AT SUNDERMOUNT IN ACT II OR YOU WILL DIE. HORRIBLY AND REPEATEDLY.

This.

I always have to "cheese" this fight  by running back and around the corner and creating a good bottleneck. Then, I equip my DW Rogue Hawke with a bow :( and along with the other 2 companions, focus fire on one fanatic at a time, and chain lightning whenever there are good amount of them staggered. Then when Varnell is the last man standing I switch back to daggers and go to town.

Works everytime, but feels wrong doing it this way.

Would like to see how the great AreleX does it.
