well...when the martians were destroying the earth and civilization as we know was on the verge of its utter defeat, humanity found a way!

and that salvation was Slim Whitman's song "Indian Love Call"!!!!

Deus Ex Machina.

That's how we'll beat the Reapers.

We could try singing to them.

Or break the fourth wall and have the player PRAY for them.

The ways in which the reapers could be defeated are limitless and all cheesy. ME3 will suffer the same problems all games, tv-shows, books and movies have when introducing an seemingly undefeatable foe. Through out the series the enemy is made uberpowerfull, nothing can beat it and mostly main have tried and failed. However near the end, after milions of deaths or something simular, a weakness is discovered and at that point in time beating the unbeatable enemy becomes relatively simple. This will also happen in ME3, like any other show/game before it.
My only hope is ME3 will have multiple ways (multiple deus ex machina's) to stop the reapers. Tried and tested methodes have been:
- travelling back in time to stop it before it began
- traveling forward in time to get an edge
- introducing a virus or other small nemesis into something very large and powerfull
- finding some ancient technology to destroy the threath
- finding the arch nemesis of your enemy (the enemy of my enemy is my friend) aka good geth vs bad geth, vorlons vs shadows, decepticons vs autobots
- stealing enemy technology/ships and use them against them
- love (mostly in very lame Japanese manga though)
- showing our enemy the error of their ways (humanity is worth saving cause we cool)
- giving up a friend, loved one or even a select group to appease the enemy to go away
- same as above, but instead we blow them up with the biggest explosion the universe has ever seen, either from the inside with something of a nuke or from the outside with something bigger
- banding together, creating one big army (bigger then ever) cause united we stand
- same as above, but with an unexpected ally
- etc

Also, read this article (and all references) for a full comprehensive list of reason to destroy earth, ways to destroy ánd save it.

i dont care if it has been done before...cuz lets be honest...when was the last time you saw something that was TOTALLY 100% original?

if Bioware ends ME3 in a believable TOO TOO AWESOME i wanna do it again fashion ill be a happy camper. i hope Bioware doesnt wrap everything up in a neat little package...cuz then we'll have Return of the Jedi...and ewoks!! I dont want no ewoks in my Mass Effect!

Wasn't there some Volus in ME1 that found some artifact about "beings of light" that will eliminate the darkness? :/

Also, Computer Virus would be lame. I know the original poster didn't know it at the time, but blowing up the Charon Relay would in fact defeat the Reapers, but at the cost of 11 Billion lives >_>

Ok OP it's impossible. Let's just start Mass Effect 3 with the game over screen.

Problem, BioFans?

If they're unbeatable, then the whole trilogy is pointless.

Then again, Sovereign wasn't unbeatable. It's just something the Reapers believe they are out of sheer arrogance.

No, they have very practical reasons for believing this as I explained. The logistics of a war with the Reapers are what will kill us, more-so than their technology.

They never said any such thing.

Perhaps they are unbeatable, Perhaps the goal is not to beat the Reaper invasion but to just survive it.

That would be kind of cool in my opinion.

Would still suck a little, though.

If blowing up a relay destroyed a system, what would happen if you blew up the citadel?

the feeling of hopelessness is exactly what bioware wants us to feel while playing me3. as corny as it sounds, there's probably a silver bullet but Im hoping it comes with great cost.

I'd love a Saren-esque ending.

Bioware has stated to GI that the Reapers CAN be beaten...but you won't know what it is 5 mins in...and it won't be obvious to figure out.

Nothing can travel faster than light. Well, nothing other than spaceships with FTL drive cores.

I'm really hoping that whatever "sacrafice" is needed to beat the reapers involves killing even more batarians!

It's been implied in pre-release articles that the Reapers are attacking more than just the Earth at this point, so it would only partially defeat the Reapers. This assumes that the Reapers don't have enough shield and armor power to survive such a blast, and the solution might be somewhat impractical, as setting up another "Project" without the Reapers catching on would be... quite the freaking accomplishment, that's fo' shizzle.

However, it should be noted that given the sheer number of lives that get poured into the construction of a single Reaper, every Reaper lost is a significant blow to the Reaper fleet. They can't replenish their own numbers as easily as organics can, from either a reproductive or an economic standpoint.

I believe the Reapers become vulnerable when they are possessing a minion and are killed, example of this is in ME1, when Sovereign possess Saren and Shep snuffs him the ship itself lost shields, let's go of the tower and starts to fall BEFORE you hear "It's shields are down!".

You do kill the ME2 Collector General several times but Harbinger is not anywhere in the physical sense to be attacked at that weakened state, I think this may well be a part of their defeat.
