From what I recall, it took BioWare years to make DAO. Then suddenly DA2 is out a year or so later. Do I think DAO was better? Yes, for the most part.

DAO:
pros
-great story
-nonlinear "open" feel of the game
-different venues, i.e. I wasn't trapped in Kirkwall
-race/class story intro
-so many itemsets, so little time
-lots of interesting npcs
-revenant battles and the loot thereafter (those battles were so much fun and randomly found anywhere)

cons
- terrible graphics
- slow fighting
- annoying mabari hound

DA2:
pros
- awesome graphics
- combat system much quicker and smoother
- Hawke-sexuals
- Sundermount (that whole mountain top was awesome)
- Flemeth's updated sprite <3
- templar-mage rivalry!

cons
- seemed short.. though looking back at the hours I spent on both games, they were about equal
- class stats and class item restrictions -- yawn.. they made my classes boring!
- gifts were not as much fun as DAO
- trapped in kirkwall! FFS let me out! I'm tired of fragging kirkwall
- over-reused prefab caves and houses. Anyone else tired of looking at the exact same "dungeons" over and over and over again?
- hardly any itemsets.  Those there were were always class-restricted, which brings me to the next point...
- I couldn't equip my NPC's in armor and gear of my choice :(

DA2 has awesome graphics? HAHAHAHA

DA2 is a pretty game, and I can say this with a high-end rig that's been doing all the games so far (well I haven't tested the new Crysis 2) with the highest settings. Maybe "awesome" is overstating it, but they're good. But it's ok, why pass a perfectly good excuse to behave like a child and insult someone just because you can, right?

I liked it more than DA:O actually so it wasn't a failure to me.

I think it's a general consensus that DA2 is a highly divisive game...

Dragons Age Origins is without a doubt one of my favorite games of all time. However, I consider Dragons Age II to be an utter disappointment. I love Bioware, but I'm one and done with this game. I played though Origins and even Awakenings multiple times.

In me mind yes. i think the game is a BIG FAILURE, but i dont think that the game is a failure in bioware's mind there is still a lot of people who has bay and enjoyed the game. And through there has been some mixed reviews most of the reviewers were good. I respekt playeres that like and enjoy the new style of dragon age and are happy some like the game. But just feel like bioware has close a big part of the original dragon age fan base out in the sakke of more new fans.

(Sorry for mi poor english.)

Yes. as a sequel to DA:O and as an RPG it was a complete and utter failure.

I'm sure Bioware and EA don't see it like that, tho. Going by the last interviews and the streamlining they don't want to be considered an RPG house and don't want to make that kind of games anymore, so for them it was a step in the right direction, I guess? I mean, the game is not selling as badly nd the "critical reception" is not abysmal given the PoS it is.

Pretty good summary of why I think this found at NeoGAF:

Bioware certainly slipped up with DA2 but lets hope they are reading the constructive feedback and can make Dragon Age 3 a game that lives up to the Bioware name.

These are just for comparison purposes. Take a look at their detalization, vegetation, light, and overall graphics.

DA2 is far from pretty. Your standards are too low.
In addition to weak art style and visuals, the game had way too many other flaws such; story, awful level design, dumbed down character interactions, race limitations / design (no fem dwarves, anorexic elves), itemization, lack of choices that matter and so on and on. Funny how people currently complain about elves being anorexic in the mmo Rift. They must have not seen DA2 elves yet to truly understand ugly. :)

Point well made. There is a certain level of compromise that comes from DA2 being a tactical game, I for example play it from an almost isometric perspective. Still, The Witcher 2 definitely has the upper hand here, no doubt about that. But since the game's not released yet, we can't really comment on the rest of how it plays, how bugfree it is, what kind of a story it has etc.

hahahaha, made me laugh.. it isn't a pretty game. ME2 was prettier.

I have a decent rig and it can play all new games on full settings. STALKER: Call of Pripyat looked a lot better in DX11 (everything maxed) than DA2. Hell, even the witcher 1's environments are better looking. Star Wars Force unleashed 2 looks way better than DA2. I could go on, but you get my point.

I agree DA2 is slightly better thna DA:O graphics, and the character detail is better. Still, they're using an engine made in around 2004/2005 and it shows.

QFT. :lol:I think this is the only thing you could ever really say about the "consensus" on the game.

Also, Romantiq, I definitely agree that the screenshots you posted looked nicer than DA2...buuut if you compare DA2 to DA:O, I think people would generally agree that DA2 was an improvement. That's how I feel, anyway, some of the character models in DA:O set off the Uncanny Valley in me pretty badly.

It's broken. It shouldn't even be in the shops in the state it's in.I really wanted to like it, too, but a game-breaking bug, combined with the absurd re-use of areas, has completely destroyed any fun. Why the hell do we, as consumers, let the games industry get away with this?

Come on, the graphics seemed to be better in DA2 however the style and art design is definitely questionable.

Another thing, I do not agree with Romantiq is that DA2 isnt pretty !

Come On !!!!!!!!!!!!! look at the darkspawns :o  their armours are clean, look at their boots, so clean and shiny too and not to forget their faces/body , it definitely looks like they use make-up man or artist to polish and powder their faces to make it look more naturally white :P:D:D

I actually looked really forward to this game, and up till the start of Act 3 I kept telling myself "It will get better!". My personal opinion is that the game is a really mediocre piece that I wouldn't buy, but as a part of the Dragon Age franchise I see it as a utter, compete failure.

Went back to Origins.

Bioware... MAKE A NEW ENGINE!

Or use Unreal 3 or Source or Cryengine (lol unlikely)... I don't freaking care just change the engine. >.<

Nobody is going to care that I am not going to buy DA3. DA2 is probably a hit sales wise but I predict DA3 sales wise (at least initially) will be a huge flop unless they change direction.

It depends how you define failure. On the one hand its been masivly streemlined to pander to a wider audence annoying the hell out of alot of biowares core audence. on the other hand chances are its not been streemlined enough for the audence thay are aparently aming at. So in that respect yes DA2 fails with a large slice of awesome. :P
