It's amazing that this thread just keeps chugging along. DA 2 isn't close to being a failure. If you personally believe this game didn't live up to your expectations thats a totally separate matter. The game is selling fine, the reviews are generally positive, and most of the fans are generally pleased. Just let it go.

hahah yes - looking here at forum, then at pools ... uhmmm rly???? maybe u are still sleeping wake up man
here in reality it is completly different

|| i ve finsihed now you can start "only haters posting, lovers playing game" "only haters doing pools" etc bull****
you like all others with such arguments will look just funy and ridiculous but you can do it anyway

Nah I wouldn't call everybody doing polls or posting haters. But I stand by my statement. Most of the fans are generally pleased with the product. I'm sure everybody can point out issues, thats true with any game. Even DA:O didn't live up to everyone's expectations and was released a bit buggy.

But it seems to go beyond pointing out issues into the realm of drumming up support in ripping Bioware and DA II. Exaggerating issues and using information that only serves that purpose. I mean there are threads using VGChartz information(unreliable) to show the game isn't doing well. But don't want to acknowledge PC sale information for DA:O that shows why Bioware made the changes that are console friendly. I say the so called "hardcore fans" that feel betrayed are asleep. And the world is moving on.

Fine is not exactly a ringing endorsement for a AAA game with an advertising budget larger that than a lot of games development budgets.

No it's not a ringing endorsement. It didn't revolutionize the genre and turn gaming on it's ear. But it's a good game. It's selling like a good game is expected to sell and it's review score is what you expect from simply a good game. If good games are failures then the industry is doomed.

Dude user reviews on metacritic give it a 4.4.............Come on.
And the thing is I've never heard metacritic user review quoted as a valid representation as much as I have in regards to this game. Suddenly 1500 people giving their opinion on the internet about a game that sold a million copies is valid even though 500 rated it a 0. When did so many smart and logical people decide that anger over this game trumps any type of reason?

I don't think it is a failure, though there is room for some improvement, they did fix a lot of problems I had with DA:O which I really appreciated since it helped the game flow much better.

Also I'm betting if everyone actually met each other in person this conversation would be a whole lot different..... well at the very least a bit more civil. :wizard:

Agreed.

You know that use to be one of the things I liked about this forum. It always seemed more civil. But everybody should be in a good mood, new Mass Effect 3 info is out.

I wouldn't so much call it a failure as I would a severe disappointment in regard to the standard of quality Bioware has set this past decade.

The game is not a success by any logical standards. Its meh.

And with the money EA and pumped into marketing i doubt they wanted a "meh" respense fom 70% of the gamers.

So yes it failed to live up to what the company wanted it to be. And thus its a failure.
Throwing in a free ME2 only shows how they really wanted more sales and are getting desperate

Cannot believe that some people are trying to cast this game as a "good game". Its a massive let down and im a 360 player(target demographic). Okay its not a sh*t game but its linear (re used) maps/story are a throwback to final fantasy x days. It tries to create the illusion of choice but theres barely any. People are trying their best to overlook disjointed story, massive bugs, next to none character interaction/customization and just an overall poor effort because of their devotion to the dragon age series. I am massive fan of the series but this game is a poor effort, open your eyes. General consensus is 7/10...some might say that means its a decent game but its 2 points down from DA:Os 9/10 average and 7/10 in gaming industry is not all that. Could have been an epic, instead ill play it for about 2 months then itll go on the rack with titles like fable 3(not quite as big a let down) fallout new vegas and star wars unleased

General consensus 7/10? Where? How is the story disjointed? DA:O didn't have bugs at release? What were all of these choices that mattered to the basic story of DA:O?

I was a huge fan of DA:O too. Because of the characters, world, and the lore. I understand that people liked the first one for different reasons though. If DA:O appealed to you because it reminded you of playing BG2 then I can see how DA II is a bit of a letdown. That still doesn't mean the game is a failure and manipulating numbers and pretending that sites like Metacritic are the end al be all because they support your argument doesn't make your argument true.

3rd - can i please for some links to those reviews ? for evry 1 sinlge link with good review i will give 3 link with bad reviews
So how about that ?

No, it's not.
This is because it is a misrepresentation of what the statistics show.

Assuming everyone is honest,
Those who votes the game high is a subset of those who like the game.
Those who votes the game low is a subset of those who dislike the game.

The relationship between the subset and the superset for both groups are not necessarily proportional, and is highly likely they are not, due to human nature. It takes less fail needed to provoke ****ing, and it takes more win needed to provoke praise.

Further, within the population of those who play games is the subset of people who submit reviews and rankings. Movies have be critically panned but end up box office successes. Games have been highly reviewed and fail to break even.

So no, it is not logical. If something has an even split of 50/50 like/dislike, then we would expect reviews to be negative simply because of the tendancy for people to ****.

It's sampling bias. A systematic error related to such polls is that it reflects the views of "those who vote", not those of the population as a whole. A website dedicated to Call of Duty would have higher average rankings for CoD games than a website dedicated to games in general, because of the community doing the voting. This was the sort of thing that caused embarassing predictions of Teddy Roosevelt being defeated.

Story disjointed because theres about 30 mini quests that somehow make up your main quest, you dont even know what/who your fighting until halfway through Act 3. An its not just me man these comments are all over. You gotta admit re using maps, bugs, find and retrieve quests for f**k sake( those quests have no place in the modern rpg), lack of character customization etc these are killers to any game. Trust me i want as much as the next guy for this game 2 b awesome but if this game didnt have Dragon age in its name it wouldn't have sold half as much an reviews would've been alot harsher. Massive shame cuz bioware is normally top dog in this genre

Usually when a game fails (ex. Alpha Protocol) it doesn´t get much support post-release, and you can forget about sequels. In the case of DA2 there are few differences:
-There is one big patch coming ahead, it may still improve the game. If bioware keep supporting the game with patches and dlc the game may end up better.
-The game sold relatively well despite it´s flaws, even if it was relying on the franchise name and the success of it´s predecessor. This means that we can hope for a DA3.

All in all i would say that DA2 was a rushed work, that relied on being the sequel of a better game to get the initial sales in. I don´t think the game was a failure in terms of selling, but it was a disappointment for many fans, which will affect long-term sales unless bioware takes action. I hope they get things right the next time, i wouldn´t like this franchise to die or to be spinned off into another genre.

Look the biggest issue I had with this game was the maps. I mean even accepting that some areas would be the same to fit into the story taking place in Kirkwall there were still way to many instances of using the exact same map. I'll agree that customization is also an issue when were talking about an RPG.

But, I can't say honestly that I didn't have fun playing on my playthroughs. Let's look at something like the find and deliver quest. Really most of the items can be found just by playing normally. And if you don't want to do then you really don't have to. It doesn't take away from the game.

Let's go back to DA:O which again I loved. But Jesus, helping to free the circle but getting stuck and ending up in the fade for 3 hours? Really? And there was no choice with something like that which, no matter how you look at it, had nothing to do with anything regarding the story. I mean they actually have mods to cut that part out. And don't get me started on Orzammar.

If you go in not wanting to like this game believe me it's easy not too. But lots of games are like that. I think there is more here to enjoy then to be upset about. Now if you want to say Bioware needs to stop releasing games with so many bugs on release and stop reusing enviroments I'm with you. But it wasn't enough to call this game a failure compared to whats on the market now.

I wouldn't call it a failure. It would have to be something so bug filled, boring, with such a poor story that people couldn't even manage a full playthrough for me to say it was a failure.

I played the game through, wasn't horrible, but there wasn't anything to motivate me to play it again.

The reused areas just left a horrible taste in my mouth, and the enemy waves just spawning from mid air I just thought was ridiculous. They didn't even edit the map down to only the areas you were using. The whole game just seemed lazily done from the reused maps, to the city not changing one stitch in 10 years, Fenris still having bodies lying around his house 6 years later. The items just called belt, ornate amulet, ring. The 3rd act and ending just felt like someone walked in a room and said "wrap it up, times up"

I must say that after having played Mass Effect 2 (Thanks Bioware!) that I see more flaws with DA2, I was happy with the game and all that but I knew there was some glaring problems.

What I do not understand is why was there such a difference in the content and game play? I think the time crunch and the budget clearly was very very lacking.

I suppose what the second issue is that they spend more time on creating the engine and with the lack of a proper toolset it took them longer to fabricate the game itself. Which made DA2 suffer, that is at least what I *hope* and not that EA/Bioware did not feel the title was viable as Mass Effect so they sent less energy to it.
