From the bottom, each bar goes up in increments of 1 on a scale of 10. DA2 goes from 3.9 to 4.3.
Is it a general consensus that Dragin Age 2 was a failure?

Metacritic really shouldn't be your first choice for a real accurate capture of honest user reviews. It's 95 percent, it's great! or it's the worst ever, how dare they!!! For everything on the site. It's only useful thing is the Critic review compilation, which as a whole is more accurate than Joe Blow's user score/review.

Metacritic is the gauge by which Bioware and other game companies judge their own games and their competation including metacritic target scores.
Thus when we judge using Metacritic we are doing nothing other than using Bioware's own standards.

If good things happen, it's a miracle. If bad things happen, you're being tested. Nobody wins in these scenarios because each other thinks they're right.
What will be the ultimate proof however, will be the changes of the (putative) DA 3 and/or the success of that title.
Saying the metacritic scores are lies because of a bunch of people spamming/raiding the scores is unfair because other popular titles don't seem to suffer as much. A favourite example of mine is Portal 2, go look up the metacritic scores. And when it first came out users were giving it 0's for daring to have a store that sells hats(which made those with lesser comprehension skills deem it to be day 1 DLC) and for being a game 4 times longer than the first. The nerve! Reason then reasserted itself and now proper scores and ratings are coming in, with critic and user scores being generally positive. Of course, the trolls are raiding Portal 2 scores as well, trying to make it look good! We all know the truth, don't we?

Great post Polaris.
Nevermind the "suspected" raids on the scoring, which could just as well be to blame for the higher user review scores too, people coming to defend the game, Bioware ticked enough people off with this release that its ranked right near the bottom of user reviews for the last 90 days, down there with some arcade releases.
