I've used this ability a couple dozen times now, and about half the time it seems to miss/do absolutely nothing. Even the graphic for it seems to vear off.

Is this intended? Bugged? Am I crazy?

Hmm, I've had no issues so far. Been a while since I played with Varric tho. Make sure that whoever you fire the shot at is at the *rear* end of the line. IE, if you have 4 enemies standing in a line, and you fire the lance at the very first one, I'm pretty sure the lance doesn't carry further than him. That's the only thing I can think of.

The arrow (archer's lance) doesn't have homing features. Whichever enemy you shoot it at, thats the direction it will fly. If your target(s) move then the shot will miss.

Yep, of course. But the arrow seems to not hit at all, not even the primary target.

Huh... maybe that's the issue then. You just come to expect these things to auto hit.

It is. Make sure the target doesn't move (which shouldn't happen if it's brittled) or do it at point blank.

Archer's Lance does a line attack (basically a really thin cone). It will extend beyond the target (I think the full length is 20m), but only uses the target for orientation when you cast it.

Like Ruben Thomas said. I also found that Dessicate + Archer's Lance was nice on top-tier enemies. Just make sure that if you're playing on Nightmare you move your own team out of the trajectory. ;)

it's best to use on BRITTLE target..I've use cone of cold and make 4-5 men line up in BRITTLE.
move varric to the side, shoot Archers Lance (upgraded)..next thing I know all of them gone and it's on nightmare..

it's effective only when you know how to use it

Since it's a line and can miss, why doesn't it get an area of effect marker like Cone of Cold does? (and like line spells do in NWN2, for instance)

Im finding Archer's Lance to be as reliable as WB. Though lacks the same payoff when it works. Still, when it works, its still pretty sweet.

Indeed. This would make it actually useful, I think.

To be honest, though, unless you're bottlenecking enemies through a door, I found almost no use for it as an AoE (LoE?) spell. The enemies move, or they're slightly off center, or my archer needs to get into position...
