At first I thought the tiny health bars with black names were for normals, black names with longer health bars were lts and red names were elites...

But when I bought the massacre passive I was getting deathblows against the "black names with longer health bars" at 20% health and I even got a few 10% deathblows against the red names.

Anyone know the difference between the 3?

The difference is how the name is written. Normals have the black names with the red highlight. Lts and bosses have pure red names. To be honest I still haven't managed to tell the difference between them yet. I just see (Red Name) Coterie Assassin and run screaming.

It's interesting question. There is four type of enemies as far I know:

Critter: Black names and lower health (short health bar)
Normal: Black names and higher health
Elite: Red names and higher health
Boss: Red names and very high health

Wow, I never even noticed there were different colored names.

They should have left the coloured names how they were in DAO being white, yellow, orange.

Far easier that way to tell at a quick glance.

The health bar is significantly longer between normals, lieutnants, bosses and elite bosses, though I admit it's not as obvious as it should be.
