Alistar fits the Mr. Nice guy Bioware romance option to a T. He's funny, sensitive, a virgin... But as we changed tracks for the for the female's of bioware we get a whole different story. One's a seductress, who finds any kind thing you do throughout the course of the game (even saving people) a bad thing. Morrigan hints that she uses romance to use people and despises talks of love. Obviously not our good girl there, hell her allure is that she's the exact opposite of that. Then we got Leliana. Religous... kind... at first glance. Of course when you find out she used to be a spy who specialized in becoming whatever type of woman her target desired and practically boasts she can bag any man. File that under "ThingsI would have rather not known about." Oh and she flat out prefers women, even if you are playing a male character. As a female all you need to do is get her relation points up and she will come after you, admiring your characters hair which opens up conversation options to move the relationship to "interested" (There are 3 steps apperently, like, interested, love) As a male if you don't flat out flirt with her early on in the relationship you get stuck in the friend zone until much later in the game when her side story is accomplished, and if you know who the character her side story is about that just further fuels my point.

I really wish there was a normal, not bizarr person in the game as a romance option. Maybe a Dalish elf who wants to explore the civiilized world? An anti hero thief or pick pocket whose really just does what she must to survive? I dont know...

I know! The girls are weird and as time goes on I like them less. Alistair is much more endearing.

Ferelden does not leave room for nice which is why you have the option to make Alistair not as soft later on.

Why is this a bad thing? Imagine the roleplay possibilities. And threesomes.

Huh... You know, this probably says a lot more about my twisted nature than I'd be willing to let on in normal circumstances, but...

I dig the fact Morrigan's totally Icy...

The barbed quips, the razor-sharp, intelligent wit... Granted, she's not someone I would ever date in real life, but she's someone I'd totally be friends with, just to keep me on my toes...

Leliana would just ****** me off though...

And honestly, I'm rather glad it's Alistair that's the 'Standard Romance' of the bunch. How often do we ever see guys in that role in video-games, huh?

Because we've had enough of Aeries. Morrigan and Leliana both offer a nice reprieve from the flower girl.
I for one am grateful.

Haha. Not all ladies are crazy, and I certainly don't know of any that turn into huge spiders XD

I think Leliana's a sweetheart. Even my Chantry-hating mage learned to get along with her; she's religious, but not a jerk about it. And as for the backstory...well...let's just say that every romance interest, including Alistair the Adorable, has less-than-savory moments.

No no no...women must be petit and demure and a perfect model of Victorian values. Close your eyes and think of the Empire, ladies.

I have a hard time playing characters that like the Chantry, which says a lot more about me than I care to get into, soooo, I'll just get to the point of that sentence.
I'm very glad Leliana isn't all holier-than-thou with Chantry values and what-not...  I'd kill her, seriously, in every playthrough, just because of that.  But it turns out she's actually pretty cool and down to earth, which I like.

I must be the only one who totally fell in love with Leliana... or am I?

She's quirky, she's funny, she's got a personality all her own. Sure she's religious but that doesn't stop her from doing what she wants to do. If anything it gives her a stability that other NPCs lack. What's not to love?

**spoiler**

Well there's the bit about watching you sleep and wanting to catch your eyelashes like butterflies and keep them in a jar.

That must be the quirk he was referring to...

It's not that I -don't- like Leliana, not at all. It's that, as far as my real-life personality goes, I would never mesh well with her.

Actually Morrigan's ideas of love are right on with pagan value systems. She's independent... and for some reason in our western judaeo-christian civilization we seem to have a quirky paranoia about women who have their own minds and go their own way. Why? Hmmm... Lil on the other hand isn't all roses and cream either... under that chantry fasade hides a real sex queen...

Having developed two characters so far: one a Rogue who found Romance with Morrigan, and a ice dance with Lil; and, a second, an Elf Mage, who shined brightly with Lil but had a real problem with Morrigan. Strange how your choices lead to dead ends with one or the other of them based upon style of play.

As for Alistair, he seems to me too priggish and goody two-shoes for my own taste. Maybe I like that independent flair with a touch of evil in the back of the mind.

Either way I think both women seem perfect for the roles created for them. Lil take a little more flattery and gifts before she warms up is all. Morrigan takes a little finesse in your discussions. Both have romance as their priority. Morrigan for power, rather than old fashioned love as we know it. Lil for the pure fun of it. Who can say which is the better path? :)

I find it amusing how so many people like Morrigan, considering she is the romance least willing to 'share' herself. Raise her approval above 90 and the romance is 'over'. That is just funny to me.

She gives you a ring and off you go, never to get to sleep with her again.

Just like a real Marriage.

I actually liked Leiliana a lot. She's very sweet.  A bit cracked in the head, but sweet and nice and trustworthy.  And a trained killer and spy, which is a bonus, imo. ;)  Sure, her background isn't pure, but that makes her goodness even more impressive.

I think it's hilarious how now Morrigan and Leliana are arguing, well mostly Morrigan picking fights. I have Morrigan at 100 and Leliana at 99 (with many just-in-case gifts at the ready;])

So I'm walking through Orzamaar, and out of nowhere, Morrigan starts talking about "Get your own." ROFLMAO. Leliana is like, wtf is this woman talking about because Morrigan is being so vague about everything. Was one of the funniest banters I have heard so far!

Nothing beats the Oghren/Alistair banter if you are a female dwarf romancing Alistair though.

Oghren will ask Alistair "Where do you put here legs?". Cracked me up.

I had that one as a female elf. I think it fits the long-legged races better :P. Cracked me up too.
