Interesting question would be: Do all templars end as lyrium addicted mental wrecks? That's one hell of a way to avoid the retirement pensions. Kudos to the chantry.

Grey Wardens say hi.

There's a trend for that, isn't there?

And I put a Grey Warden Templar on the throne.
This does not bode well.

Well at least in my game he's married to my ever stable human noble who.... is... also a Grey Warden Templar.
... Ferelden is doomed.

Why do you think Aveline says he was so popular? He turned Ferelden into an amusement park.

Monsters on both sides I guess. Problem is I can't support templars as an institution if they fail to keep their own monsters in check.

And btw, I have seen it in a couple of threads. Alistair was never a templar. He had templar training, that's all. And he never had any lyrium drinks either in my playthroughs, unlike my mages.

Retconned in DA2 evidentally, the description for the Templar spec says that a special form of refined Lyrium is needed to use Templar powers, and those outside the order can get some of this Lyrium if they have the connections.

Some of the talent descriptions also mention that it is the lyrium in the templar's blood that makes them resistant to magic.

I like the retcon, Alistair's lyrium-free training smelled like a get out of jail free-card. To quote the tranquil from Ostagar: "True power comes at a price, as we know only too well."
