Specifically I am trying to change the damage type on Sunnie's spirit staff of Parthalan to cold damage. I can open the erf and susequently the staffs uti file, but cannot edit it. If I knew how to edit it, I already know how to look up the proper item properties and where to change them. Just need to know how to edit the uti embedded in the erf file.
How to make changes to existing modded item?

Here are the step I took to modify Sunnie's Spirit Staff of Parthalan from spirit based to cold based. These steps will work to change it to any other base as well, so long as you use the correct numbers in 3)vi)
1) Download all the required tools/files.
gff4editor http://social.biowar...ect/1936/#files
TlkEdit 1.3d http://nwvault.ign.c...&comment_page=3
ERFV3 Packer http://social.biowar...ect/4419/#files
GDApp http://social.biowar...ject/755/#files
SpieritParthEvol http://social.biowar...ect/4305/#files
Extract these to a folder. No installs are required.
2) How to figure out what properties are what
i) Run gff4editor.
ii) Select File->Export and select the 2da.rim file from \\Dragon Age 2\\packages\\core\\data
iii) Select item_properties.gda and click ok. Put it somewhere easy to remember.
iv) Run GDApp and open item_properies.gda
v) Expand the Lable column width so that you can read the descriptions. Leave this open as this is where we will reference what numbers give what attribute.
3) Edit the staff properties
i) Run gff4editor
ii) Select File->Export and select SpiritParthEvol.erf.
iii) Select the prm000im_parth_staff.uti and extract it to its OWN FOLDER.
iv) Run TlkEdit and open the uti
v) Expand the PropertyList and when you expend each property you will notice a PropertyID number in each one. Cross reference this number back to the item properties file open in GDApp to know what it does.
vi) Change the required PropertyID numbers. In this case it will be 10006 to 10002 AND 1118 to 1115 to change the base damage AND the damage factor(+% damage) vii) Once changed click out of the active box and then save. If you do not do this it will not register the active box as changed and not save the way you want.
4) Get the staff in the game
i) open ERFV3 Packer and select the folder that has just the uti staff file in it.
ii) output to a file in Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\packages\\core\\override. It can be named anything, but make it something you will recognize like ColdParthEvolveSunnie.erf (Just make sure you don't have any other Staff or Parthalan mods there.)
iii) Click Create PAK
iv) now the next time you get the staff it will be the one we just edited/made. If you want to import it directly you will have to enable the develepor console (http://dragonage.wik...(Dragon_Age_II))and use a tool for imorting items (http://social.biowar...-6587675-1.html).
Thanks for the great mod to start with Sunnie! =)

i just want to change some names and descriptions of some of the modded items i have, cuz in that respect alot of them are really lame, ie "this armor is heavy" wtf. I cannot for the life of me figure out how. the only way i can see is to create a new item which i cannot do. Help? this question seems similar to what u were doing here. Do i really need ALL those tools to type a few sentences into and already existing item?
