If there is a Developer to dumb DA2 even more down then Bioware did it would be Blizzard. They are the Master of Brainless Casualgames. But thy make great Intro Videos :)

It's a shame Blizzard was cut from the game, I agree.

I know that you're trying to reference Diablo and WoW, but the Starcraft/Warcraft fan in me just got a whole lotta mad.

Blizzard is way worse than BioWare... despite my anger toward BW right now.

I wish Obsidian had picked it up... You know THAT would have been epic.

Like the game would even be playable at all.

At least the game would be of high quality.  Blizzard just need to hire writers from Bioware and bam, Bioware 2.0.

The only game they've made since the Activision merger is Starcraft 2, and there's nothing dumbed down about it.

They also have a tiny little online game (in the very niche and specialized market, it's known under the name of "world of Warcraft"), which is, as all MMO, constantly under change.
It's been dumbed down to a caricatural level and milked to death since Activision.

And SC2 is not dumbed down, that's true, but it's certainly been milked - Steam-like restrictive protection even for single player, released in three parts.

Then look at the progression of World of Warcraft. Activision has had little-to-no effect on any of these titles what-so-ever. Everything -- even the bad stuff, like charging for pets and mounts in WoW -- is Blizzard's own choice and through their own cycles. Activision doesn't have the ability -- at this stage -- to tell Blizzard to do anything; if they did, then people would know about it.

Maybe, maybe not. Anyway they precisely did in WoW all the dumbing down we can see in DA2, so your example if wrong.

I hear Obsidian being thrown about a bit here, but people are forgetting both KotOR II and Fallout: New Vegas are massively glitchy, buggy and unpolished experiences.

It may be true for KotOR II (which suffered from massive deadline restrictions, LucasArt was stupid as hell with this one), but FO:NV is much more polished and suffers from very few bugs. Did you even play it or are you just repeating the "Obsidian games are buggy" slogan ?

Neither Obsidian or BioWare are great examples of Western RPG developers when you see what they are capable of at their very worst.

Err... Yeah, and who else is there then ?

Hell to the no. It would be a game dominated by numbers more than actual gameplay.

"You want the items with the best NUMBERS so you can use your NUMBERS to decrease the enemy NUMBERS until your NUMBERS are the best in the land!"

I wouldn't say Blizzard specifically, but I'd rather wait 10 years for a truly "awesome" Dragon Age 2. At least the franchise wouldn't be tainted by a bad title, if there even is a franchise left after the mess DA2 made.

So now the general agreement is that Bioware would still have done the best job with DA2, only mistake they made was taking orders from EA?

Well, I mean, if you had asked me before DA2 came out "What company do you want making this game?" I would have said BioWare without hesitation... Now... I just don't know where to turn.

Obsidian's NWN2 and expansions were incredibly good, so that seems like it would have been a good way to go. If BW didn't feel up to making DA2, they should have sold off the DA IP while it still had credibility.

Blizzard >>>>>>> BioWare.

Except for WoW of course, but since BioWare is making an MMO now, too, even that will change.

No. Last thing we need in DA is a quest to go kill ten innocent pigs.

As much as i hate WoW, it is by no means a casual game. Rather a "I quit my job to play it all night" game.
And this is not only distant stories, a former friend of mine actually dropped from university to play WoW.
"Former" because he obviously doesn´t have time to meet or at least chat anymore, what with me being a non-WoW-player.:(

I'd rather collect 10 boar ribs than randomly pick up some Sister's corpse and use my GPS tracker map to find a person who to bring this corpse to.

Not all WoW quests are like that too. Some are nicely scripted that involve actual lore. ;)

I don't think a 10 year development cycle equals awesome game. I mean look at Duke Nukem Forever by the amount of  development time it had, it should burn out your eyes with awesomeness. Instead it looked rather dated. Same with Starcraft 2 imo.

DNF is hardly a fair comparrison. With the engine changes, financial siuation and staff shake up at 3d Realms and its recent closure, thats why DNF is delayed. Ultimately though, a game in "development" as long as DNF attracts a certain, perhaps even high level of hype. I hadnt even sat my exams at school when DNF was announced. An entire generation who loved DN3D will buy DNF, and it will be a breath of fresh air to get an old school style shooter in the market compared to Lame Of Duty and its dark, evil, samey spawn.

LOL

So much Blizzard hate in this thread.  Say what you want, but you can never accuse Blizzard of not satisfying their fans. Blizzard are kings of separating the good user feedback from the bad, then applying that to future titles. They don't rush games, and they always deliver a complete, bug free product.

Bioware on the other hand...

No Idea what Rockstar even is, same for Platinum,
and Bethesda only makes good modding ressources.
Oblivion offered more playtime to me than any other game so far (except WC3 multiplayer), but all with mods. On its own it´s a rather bad game.

Projeckt cd, hmm..... I assume you meant CD Project Red, who made the Witcher, and if so, yes they are awesome, but hardly on par with Blizzard.
If I´m wrong, though, i have no idea what you talk about.
