I find it very disturbing, braking my immersion when i see glows and other stupid particle effects for every buff i cast... like the bard's songs, warrior's stances etc... Who need immersion-hurting shiny lights and glows everywhere on my nice-looking medieval armor? I look more like some fancy fairy with all it on me :/

Dont you think its unneccessary and not fitting? If there would be an option to turn those buffs' particles off i would be glad.

I don't like it either. I try to avoid abilities with such effects.

I can tend to agree with warrior/rogue skills/abilities..they're not magic users of ANY sort (well minus templars/reavers maybe in a sense) but buffs from spells should stay..immersion breaking spells? that's like saying a fireball is immersion breaking...spells should show..abilities/skills should not

from spells it makes sense yes, but no warrior and rogue stances should give sparkles. That only further undermines Bioware's words of saying its a low magic world.

yes of course i agree that spells should be spells :) i thought its obvious. I just hate this magic effects on normall warriors-a-like abilities.

I like it, I mean in a world with magic and DRAGONS I feel it's pretty cool to be glowing red with rage

I'm not a fan myself, either. I try to turn off my warriors' taunt aura (can't remember the name) when not in battle just because of how stupid it makes cut scenes look.

I'm hoping for a mod soon that will remove the effect.

What makes magic special? - the nice magical effects, the glows and other particles effects.

When such effects are attached to every ability then magic is less magical, am i right? So i think i can speak for majority of those who agree with me in this thread that we DO like magical effects, but not on warrior, rogues' abilities...

Look at this screenshot:

...its the effect of bards' song of courage (of somehting liek that in english). Why cant it be just some tunes moving above the bard? Or why cant it be some sound playing when battle starts? Why the freaking magical purple glow that makes my team look like some radio-active wierdos?

I dislike some of the 'aura' effects, and like others. I imagine in time people will mod the specific spell effects so you can put in ones to remove the auras of those you don't like. It's probably pretty simple, though I don't care enough to do it myself at this point. If someone removed that horrible blood mage sparklies effect I'd use it, though.

Yea Momentum on Rogue + when you pause the game it actually pauses the momentum aura in motion, I thought that was a really nice touch to the game, Looks great if you have a fire Damage enchant weapon equipped as well.

Buff Effects are shown from the beginning of the game. How is your immersion breaking when you were never really immersed in the first place? :)

I must admit i dont understund your logic. How does seeing somethign awkward when i turn on my buff makes me unable to get immersion from the rest of the game? You really dont understund it or you faking?

A tickbox for that and helms would be nice.

So true, it actually undermines the magic effects when everything else does it too and often in more glowy ways.  Doesn't fit in with the general world feel either, and the cutscenes where you're all glowing yuck!

Indeed... I cant help but think "doah..." when i walk my group trough some public place trying to feel as i would be on my character's place and see my whole group sparkling, glowing, shining in all the rainbow's colours :D I dont know if i should laugh or cry :) ...

"I am a Grey Warden and i will defeat you with the power of the rainbow!"

...again: DOAH!

edit:
I understund that game might be rushed, so they had no time making effects more fitting to the abilities and they walked the easier way putting random, ready sparkles and glows, but come on, at least let us turn it off :D

I thought they were nicely done, though on my system and with nHancer, they look pretty awesome with everything maxed. ;)

The dispel effects are especially cool looking.

The only effects that I didn't really like were the glyphs, and lifeward.

Yeah it's a bit strange, almost like they did all the spells that seem to have effects that work, and then suddenly went "Oh no we need to put effects on for all the other skills" and just whacked them on, maybe there was a change in approach part-way?  I mean, the injuries and item set bonuses don't cause any special effects apart from the icon appearing on the bar, not sure why they couldn't do the same for all of them.

Those "auras" are just "visual aids" you get to identify things in the chars easily. XD

Isn't there a panel option to remove certain visual elements? I thought I saw that somewhere.

I havn't actually had any problems with the bard/warrior/rogue spells, my only issues are with cleansing aura which gives off a MASSIVE blue aura to show its radius, and rock armor. Other than this i think they are quite good and not over the top at all. I did have abit of a funny though when blizzard was still active after a fight and it went to a cutseen... my computer didn't like it much though

the problem is the effects help identify the spells used by/on enemies, otherwise you're in the dark as far as what buffs they have.
