 After I saw jamesp81's post, i figured I'd ask a similar question.

Who uses the Incisor?  I actually find it more effective at taking down armor then the Viper.  Am I crazy?

What difficulty are you playing? The problem have with the Incisor is ammo moreso than damage.

Viper is significantly better against armor man, why do you think Incisor is more effective against armor?

Viper is a shield killer and is better on your squadies for the simple fact that all the aim faults built in are ignored by NPC's.

If you like to use it, then cool. There is no really wrong choice, just different play-styles.

But, if you want to strip armor the Viper is far better for that in your Shep's hands. The Viper is not anywhere near as good at stripping Shields/Barriers.

I would guess that fully evolved AP ammo on the Incisor, or fully evolved Disruptor ammo on the Viper would balance the two weapons out. Then it would just be a matter of clip size and weapon handling.

Personally, I'd probably still go for the Viper. However, all my squadies with snipers get the Incisor except for legion, he gets his widow ;)

The problem with the incisor is ammo consumption. It's the kind of weapon you want to fire off rapidly but if you do that you very quickly run out of thermal clips.

It's definitely not as effective against armor than the Viper. Still, there's nothing wrong with the weapon itself. It's effective enough and in my opinion quite fun to use. But as others have already pointed out, the ammo shortage ruins it. For some reason the Incisors ammo pickups are totally retarded. You get as little as 2-5 shots from a thermal clip and considering that it fires in 3 round bursts, that's just crazy.

(Locuts of Borg): I generally play on Normal. Unheard of here, I know. Might be going higher next playthough.

(Kronner): I don't know. Maybe I haven't used the Viper quite enough.

Everyone else: Yes, the ammo problem is pretty significant. I interchange between it and the Mattock a lot.

Incisor is quite effective on squadmates who cant wield the widow. With shepard its useless, I find even the Mantis more effective.

Well you can't really say anything about defense stripping capabilities of different weapons on Normal. Because on Normal 90% of the enemies die if you just cough at them. And the problem with the Incisor is, like others have already said, ammo consumption and ammo pickups. Imagine you pick up a thermal clip with the Widow and it gives you 66% of 1 shot - because that's exactly what can happen to you with the Incisor when you pick up 2 bullets but the weapon fires 3. And the Epic Design Fail Award goes to.... the Incisor ;)

Put it in the hands of squad mate, preferably Garrus ,he deals damage with it and you can notice his shoots ringing off in the background , also he yells out that he loves this rifle.

Since you have the Mattock... you dont really need the Incisor... not even the Viper in general because Mattock can pretty much rip anything apart (on any difficulty).

Switch that Mattock with an Avenger and suddenly the Incisor may not feel as good anymore

And the Epic Post Award goes to this one! "On Normal, 90% of the enemies die if you just cough at them". That was hilarious, man! Trying to take somebody out on Insanity brings to mind  the old Aerosmith song"Chip away, chip away at the stone"

I can't use the incisor simply because of ammo. As mentioned, I prefer the Mantis by far - even as a main weapon. The viper is a good backup (like on a soldier with an m-76), but i prefer the one hit kills...

The Incisor is like god mode in the hands of your squadmates, but not the best for Shepard, especially a soldier. Remember, three-round bursts, fifteen-round clip; the rate of fire does not change under AR. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but you could probably pop off more shots with a Viper.

It's really a shame that the Incisor has such broken ammo issues, because personally I love how the gun fires and how it looks.

That said, at some point I plan to go through a playthrough toting an Incisor with Shredder Ammo. =D

Unfortunately I really only agree with what has been said about it already: it has ammo issues and really isn't worth using on Shepard. I'd rather use the Viper.

I'm just on my 6th playthrough, got it on insanity. Femshep, soldier with slam as power. I really must try some of the other roles but I love having loads of different weapons.

I find the actual sighting and handling of the sniper rifles pretty good for a game. It is the ammo and power issue though. I tried the incisor early on at normal and still found it pretty much useless. As ppl say, for some reason it is more effective for your squaddies. I love the mattock, it does have the stopping power and you get the ammo for it.

First play through I tried the Widow but 2nd time went with the revenant. tbh I dont think they have quite got the damage ratio correct as you level from hardcore to insanity. 2 headshots from the viper on hardcore = dead, 4/6 headshots on insanity = oh I think i'll just get up again - lol !

me personally, dont know what other folks think, it would be nice to be able to customise the weapons more just as you can the armor, i.e. buy silencers, more ammo clips etc in me3, I mean you seem to accumulate all this money and as in fallout, DAO, etc there is nothing to spend it on.

maybe they will improve it for me3, but i wouldn't hold your breath.

Incisor is horrible for Shepard, because of the low ammo. But for squadmates it rocks ... I use it on Garrus and he kills so fast on Insanity it's almost ridiculous (for a squadmate)

I always use Incisor. The ammo count doesn't especially bug me, since I tend not to use sniper rifles overmuch (when I use them, however, my GOD do I use them).

Well, ... as a soldier you can somehow circumvent the ammunition shortage (and the little spread) whilst using Adrenaline Rush, but that is only efficient if you use it ONLY in AR.
I tried it (on insanity) with the Incisor and found the weapon to be disatisfactory at best. Mediocre damage output, spread making one of those three shots miss on average when aiming at the standard mook's head and the ammunition problem was still annoying, though nowhere near an eyesore as without AR.

On effectiveness though, every other precision rifle outperforms the Incisor in practically every way:
Viper has around the same RoF with more damage and ammo.
Mantis packs a hell lot more of a punch and gets more shots per thermal clip pick up, making the weapon more shot-efficient in both ammo and damage.
And the Widow is just the Mantis on steroids AND crack.

I never play soldier and I dislike the rapid-firing sniper rifles as they are nowhere near as fun to me as getting a headshot with the mantis or the widow.

In the end, in this video game I'll take the fun factor over practicality any time.

Well the Widow is fun and efficient. You don't really need to choose between the two.

It makes perfect sense. Someone was claiming the Incisor is better for destroying armor. However, the Viper gets a bigger damage bonus against armor.
