As far as appearance goes, they are hit-or-miss. Some (Merrill, Fenris, Lia, Athenril, Orsino) look really attractive. Others (like Orana, for example) just look deformed and awful.

I liked it better when they wore shoes... :(

This was pretty much my reaction.  The redesign is okay with me, but they need to take greater pains to ensure the NPC's don't look like freaks.

I have to as a general principal I favor anything that makes elves (and Dwarves) look non-human. They should not be presented simply as tall humans with long hair and pointy ears, they should be something all together different. I also think the anemic bled out look of Merril makes perfect sense given her practice of blood magic and human blood mages should also be presented as anemic not robust. That being said other choices might have been more appropriate than carrying over the Merril look. Having said all the above, I have to break all the above rules and say Atheneril is by far the sexiest elf in the game.

Elves aren't supposed to be tall in most fantasy universes they are shorter than humans.
And I have never seen one with a sloping forehead that doesn't look elven at all.
They could have achieved a more elven look with more angular faces and longer ears.
Now they may not look human but they don't look much like elves either.
they now look like this http://blog.indecisi...8/08/goblin.jpg

I am a huge, huge fan of the elf redesign. In Origins they looked like short people with slightly odd ears. In 2, they look like a different species - which they are. Their facial features are distinctive and their bodies are slender, which is how I feel elves should look. The no-shoes thing I could take or leave, but it's nice to see some visible cultural distinction so they're not just odd humans who live in the forest (or slums, as the case may be).

The two elf party members look better than the rest, of course - you'll be looking at them much more often, so more time was spent on their features and textures. Have you SEEN the skin texture on Fenris? Incredible. Non-party NPCs look understandably lackluster. This is the same for humans as well - party members look nice, nearly everyone else is ugly.

I think what's bugging some folks about the elves is that they don't fit into the Western RPG Hero mold of HUGE BUFF MACHO GUY or CHICK WITH SOME SERIOUS JUGS. But that's part of what makes me like them.

How the hell can anyone say the DA2 Elves don't look like Elves!? Have you seen any lately? They look just like the ones I see in the Detroit alienage and frolicking in the woods of Michigan! Do you complain about the Elves on Christmas cards, Harry Potter, or reruns of "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer"?

I didn't mind the bigger eyes, or the accents. I *loved* that they have bigger ears now, as you could hardly see them (and sometimes not at all, depending on your hair choice) in Origins. However, I really, really dislike the bodies. They are emaciated and bird-like, and don't look tough at all. I see no reason why they are now as tall as humans. If the artists wanted a different silhouette, I think keeping them shorter and with more pronounced ears does a good job of that. But to make them tall, lanky, and with with alien-ish faces? I strongly disliked that.

The first elf you see in the game, Athenril, creeped me out enough that I didn't go with her and instead chose the other path. Elves used to be my favorite race. Now, I'd rather avoid them. I'm sad about this because my Warden was an elf. I'm finding it hard to believe such a frail looking thing defeated the archdemon.

I also disliked the lack of any nose bridge. I understand wanting a different art style, and making them look more distinct, but I think it was greatly overdone. I say keep them short, give them bigger eyes and ears, and keep the stronger looking body structure. But that's just my personal opinion. ^^

Edit:  To say that I actually liked that they didn't wear shoes!  Something about this fit in with the idea of them being close to nature, or whatever.

I wasn't sure at first, but now I'm used to it, I like it. I agree that some npcs need work but that's true of all race npcs (except Qunari). They do look like they missed one too many sandwiches at lunch but otherwise, not too bad. IMHO of course.

They look awful. Except Fenris, he's fine. And why does Zevran look different from all the other elves? Makes no sense.

The elves are creepy-looking. Fenris is the only elf that didn't make me want to cry in fear.

A lot of the females have freakishly long necks, even Merrill. At first I thought it was just her scarf that gave the appearance of a long neck, but I've seen videos of her in her white robes and yeah... she has ostrich neck.

I'm also mourning the redesign of the elves, which I really would have to class as an epic fail, from the visual appearance that falls somewhere between an errant Navi and a praying mantis to the Welsh accent as interpreted by drunken leprechauns that the Dalish elves have been saddled with for reasons unknown.

Some of them are great (Fenris and Merrill). However, lot's of them look ridiculous. I'm glad they don't look like humans with pointy ears anymore, but do they really need to look like non-blue Navi?

With the new build it makes sense now why they dont get hired for physical labor jobs.

I don't much care for the nose bridge thing, myself. Some of the random elves scattered around town are threatening to give my eyes cancer.

Since when is that ever the expectation with elves?  The fantasy tropes go back and forth on whether they're taller or shorter than humans, but any elf model I've seen has them as lithe.  The problem is that they were already very thin- especially their limbs- in Origins, and now they look emaciated.  Combined with the exaggerated heads, and this is not an attractive combination.

I like that Bioware is trying to make the elves stand out among the other races - because in DAO, they just looked like medium-sized humans with pointy ears. Some elves look really good with the make-over. Zevran...however...:crying: I was really looking forward to seeing Zev again, but when I did the first thought that came to mind was: OMG KILL IT! What happened to the super handsome Zev from DAO?!

Overall, I support the make-over. Bioware just needs to make a few tweaks.

I never played a female elf in Origins and can't honestly recall what their models looked like. But the male elves were easily as buff as the humans, and were proportioned exactly how you'd expect an extremely muscular real-life human to look. It looked like all they did was take a human model, tack on some ears, and shrink it to 90%. To me, it seemed to defeat the purpose of having a separate species at all.

But differing tastes, etc... I get that people have mixed feelings about the redesign. Personally, though, I hope it doesn't get altered for the next game.

Zevran does a look a little odd to me but i think it's because his cheeks look more fuller than in DAO where he had a very slim face. Otherwise I think the elves look fine. Fenris looks especially fine. I do like that they made them taller. At least the males. I am really unsure why they cannot wear shoes. it's kind of weird.

Tbh, i do like it i think they look different.

But i have to agree with Brockololly, Maybe insted of them looking all slim and pretty they could olk up a bit and look like someone you would fear.

Or have more than one body type?

I love them. (Though the big eyes and Greek profile and thick nose ridge thing reminds me a lot of the Na'vi from Avatar.)

The barefoot thing IS weird, though. I mean, I imagine their soles are super calloused after a lifetime spent barefoot, but it's still icky... Still, if the hobbits can do it, why not them?

Way too scrawny and giraffe-like. Why not just make them giant stick insects? The giant bug-eye thing wouldn't be much of a change from the Avatar look.

I love the new female elf models, particularly Merrill.

However, I really dislike the male elves, with the exception of Fenris who I consider to be the only good looking male elf in the game. The rest are downright ugly.

I do wish they were still shorter, but I like that they are more distinctivly not-human.

And while I did find a lot of them kind of ugly, I don't see what's wrong with that, they're an entirely different species, standards of what is attractive would be rather different.
