I think it is completely up to BW, where they wanna go with the DA Franchise. Not to us "Fans". Don't get me wrong, I do not like the "RPG Style" of DA2. But if BW feels they have to go down the DA2 Style, so be it.

They should just say so. I am Ok with that. I will see than, if there other RPG Games out there, more to my liking.

Thats the thing though, they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did such a thing because if they are shifting brand identity then they will want to carry over as much of the fanbase as they can so as to add it to their "new" one.

I know that. I hope BW realise that. Who knows they "could be" as arrogant and just don't care about "us old Fan Base".

If they have a "financal model/data that they are better of, leaving the "old Fanbase" behind. But make a "greater Profit" with the "hopefull new Fans/targeted" Gamers.

Just saying.

My middlefinger "twitches" for BW, too. :P :o If my fears come true, but after "me finger" showing, I just move on, somewhere else. :crying:  :?

They could not care less about the "hardcore" segment. Read some interviews and you get a clear picture about where they see their own future.

'Arrival' ME2 DLC is getting slamed in the forums and people are wondering what it means for ME3.
I think that the ones complaining most own DA2 as well.

That's why I stated my reply here on this post. I believe that BW is "hell bend set" to get to their new customers. As DA2 failed as such, they will have to cut/"trim" even more RPG elements out of DA, to make it a succses, for their new customers.

Maybe Bioware is going through a creativity crisis. I think Brent Knowles' comments on why he left are very revealing.

Yeah, that's my exact concern as well. "The game failed? We obviously didn't streamline it enough!" Really, their whole marketing/strategy plan makes abo****ely no sense. What company just decides to abandon an established market base to pursue another segment that isn't even interested in their product?

I can only imagine a crunching number "EA/BW Nerd" in the "Potential Profit Department". It has to be a monetary gain to them. Otherwise it wouldn't make any sense, in my opinion.

Its not just Bioware doing this either - Civilization V might as well be called Civilization "without the depth"

Pretty sure Arrival was made by a different team to that making ME3. If you think about the timing that has to be the case.

So the lameness of Arrival doesn't really imply much about ME3.

Also, why so many predictions of TOR failing? WoW + Star Wars + Bioware brand sounds like something you'd have to really screw up for it to fail.

Thing is that WoW is still out there and most people who want to play something like WoW are playing WoW. This is a attempt to steal that audience which has never worked before sure you will get some bioware and starwars fans but that might end up being most of the audience that will stay.

TOR will likely determine BW's fate.

This right here. Honestly, I really blame this titanic of a gamble for the real reason DA 2 was rushed out now. They didn't want to get TOR and DA 2 out at the same time. TOR got pushed back, DA 2 was set earlier than it needed. It makes for DA 2 to do a fast money injection for finishing TOR. Do I think TOR will be decent? Yes, but it's got to be freaking fantastic or EA and Bioware are going to have some ackward conversations with The Great Bearded One George Lucas when he comes to pick up his check.

ME 3 will do well I think because they had a very well planned trilogy it's the only reason they were able to make those games work, they knew what they wanted from the start, then they stuck to the plan. Definately think it was the perfect example of how to plot out a game development cycle for a series of games as opposed to the guys who thought they needed to reinvent the wheel more than they should have for DA. That's what happens when you over think and crap over the previous games in the series then go out and actually tell your fans you knew better because they were trying to hold back the RPG genre.

Yea and people though SOE + SW was going to be amazing. I'm 100% confident i'll still prefer pre-CU SWG to ToR. The actual crafting, ecnomies, gathering, and player interaction built specifically around that game will never be matched. Funny then that in ToR your hencman bros that troll your "ship" can make stuff for you.. Sweeeeeet.

Never would've believed you if you said: "Bioware's
gonna casualize the Dragon Age." I mean, I was ready to
give DA2 a chance and try to like it. Should it require
you to actually put forth effort? Someone really screwed
up thinking all the area recycling would be ok. I truly
never figured they'd do something like this. How you
gonna disappoint your true RPG fans like that? At least
let us know that you are hearing us, jeez! Just maybe
you could salvage a few die hard fans instead of flushing
down everyone who loved Origins like it was. Have you
never had to admit a mistake? Ignoring us true fans is
gonna really bite you when ME3 and DA3 drop. I won't
run to the store to buy on day 1. I am quite sure I'll wait
around to see what the forums say. I am now excited
and wary of ME3. It needs to be right or even more will
desert their support of Bioware. I have hope, Bioware,
you will fix what you broke for DA3.

SOE didn't really have a reputation for quality anything like Bioware does (although Bioware's just took a hit)

Also, launch SWG was different to WoW or EQ. People like Star Wars for lightsabers and stuff, but SWG didn't really allow for this until they totally revamped everything, story continuity be damned. People like WoW because it doles out numbers that are bigger than your current numbers randomly but frequenty. Bioware has played it much safer than SOE - TOR looks like WoW with lightsabers. If it sucks, people will stop playing it, but they'll coast for a while just on that.

No, the hardcore fanbase has a sense of entitlement that really doesn't exist.

What is this "hardcore" fanbase anyway? Do they pay more for a game than anyone else or do they inject more funds into Bioware than anyone else? Do they do advertising for Bioware? Do they do anything at all except claiming to be awesome?

Well, if I had to wait for what the forums say, I would have missed out on a fantastic game: DA2.
I definitely don't intend on taking that gamble when DA3 comes out and will most likely still pre-order it.
Just because the game is not perfect does not mean it is a steaming pile of crap.
This game has a lot going for it.
I find it every bit as challenging as Origins, but without the tedium that was Origins combat and endless Dark Roads. Finished my second playthrough yesterday and I have to say there is a great deal of variety based on your choices.
Bioware may well release some fantastic DLC and maybe even replace some of the most obvious recycled areas...who knows!

Yes , they do.

A couple of weeks after DA was released 100 or so messages came through from various people saying how much I had to look at this game. Networks like that spread word of mouth sales like wildfire. Those same people are telling me to avoid DA2 like the plague.Hardcore fans run websites, contribute to forums and to meta critic.

While they can never influence a really successful release, they can be the tipping point between success and failure for a mediocre one.

In numbers, Bioware has never been truly successful, hence the title.

Considering how they'll turn on you if you release a game they dont like I'd say no, they do not. Also, if this is their mode of behavior when they do not like something I'd be more than willing to shed those 'fans' today rather than tomorrow.
