So I was wondering who do you think will return as a squad mate when DA3 comes around? i figured I'd throw in my two cents and get the conversation rolling.

DA:O team mates:

Alastair: I can only see him returning if he stayed with the Gray Wardens. If hes the King he'll probably just be a strong aly when it comes to the final battle, and if hes the drunk he basically hates himself and everything else.

Lilieana: I can see her returning as a seeker, in hopes of finding the Warden and Hawke.

Shale: Shale may come back either as a Golem or as a mortal if Wynne decided to help her find a way to revers her transformation in the Tevinter Imperium. Hopefully a golem though.

Dog: Where would the Warden be without their faithful Mabari companion.

Zeveran: I see him coming back either as an ally like King Alastair if he takes over the Crows, or as a squadmate.

Sten: Sten would probably come back if his approval rating was high enough towards the Warden. Hes extremely loyal.

Ohgren
: I could see Ohgren coming back if he survived the final battle in Awakenings. Hes a good character, and eventually a respected Warden.

Morrigan: Two conditions would have to be met to warrant her return as a squad mate in my opinion. A) She has to be in a romance or high approval of the Warden, B) She can't end up being stabbed in Witch Hunt. If not she would probably return in some other role with the "god child."

DA:O Awakenings:

Sigrun: She'd have to be a Warden and have her Loyalty quest completed. If not she may end up in a cameo wandering the Deep Roads.

Velanna: May return if the Warden sided with the Architect, and she is still alive. Maybe even have a quest involving the budding romance between herself and Nathaniel thats implied during their dialogue as well as one where you search for her sister.

Nathaniel: Would need to be alive and a Warden. He appears in DA2 as a Warden and I see no reason why hed leave just yet.

Justice: Returns in his spirit form as Justice ONLY if Anders is dead by the end of DA2. Perhaps returning to the Fade would return him to his original state, or a quest would be to help him become Justice again and eliminate Vengeance.

DA2:

Anders: Will most return to aid Hawke if the player brought him with them to the final battle. Will return to help the Warden if he is alive and released by Hawke before the final battle. Could possibly have a quest to seperate the spirit Vengeance from him.

Isabela: Will return as a squadmate is Loyal to Hawke or in a romance with them. Otherwise she'l most likely return to her pirating ways, and be a cameo at some point.

Merril: Will most likely return if in a Romance with Hawke or the Warden is Dalish.

Carver: Can only return if A: Hawke is a Mage and B: he was in the templars and Hawke sided with them or B: Was in the Gray Wardens.

Bethany: Can only return is A: Hawke isn't a Mage ane B: She was with the mages and Hawke sided with them or B: She was a Gray Warden.

Varric: Will probably return no matter what. Some one needs to record this story.

Fenris: Will only return if A: Hawke sided with the Templars, or B: Hawke convinced him to side with the Mages. Will return if Romanced by Hawke.

Sebastian: Can only return if Anders is dead. If he was friendship Romanced by FemHawke, he will remain a party member. If he was Rivalry romanced he will return as a powerful ally and Prince of Starkhaven.

Aveline: Will take up the sword for Hawke if she had a high friendship rating, otherwise (if her quests are competed) she will remain with Donnic in Kirkwall to raise their children.

DA3: Player Characters

Warden:  Will return if (and this is speculation as to how this will play out) they are alive. Basically that'd be the only real criteria. (the biggest problem would be recording the voice actors for each possible option as there are 36 different possible voices. Not impossible if the Warden doesn't speak much or is a non- squad/player character)

Hawke: Will return no matter what, wether as a squad mate or player character is unknown.

Returning Characters:
All the side characters that had very little to do with the main plot, but could return. i mean they did it with Merril and Isabela

Sketch: Warden has a high approval rating with Lilieana, and Hawke completed the Sketchy on the Details quest in Act 2.

Silas Corthwaite: May return with if the Warden has a high approval from Lileana and Hawke has a high friendship with Sebastion.

Jerrik and Brogan Dace: May be recruited if A: the Warden completed the Golems of Amgarrak and B: Bhelen is made king of Orzammar.

Ariane: Can be recruited if Warden completed Witch Hunt. No other requirements are necessary as you wouldn't meet her otherwise.

Finn: Can be recruited if A: Warden completed Witch Hunt, B: Warden or Hawke is a Mage, C: Hawke sided with the mages or D: Anders is still alive.

The Messenger: The Darkspawn sent by the Architect to warn the Warden of pending attack on Vigil's Keep. Can only be recruited if A: Warden had him aid in the defense of Amaranthine, B: Warden then let him live, and C: the Architect is alive.

What do you think?I believe I covered all the possibilities.

EDIT: cleaned it up alittle bit.

I'd love to see him come back in some capacity  other than a cameo.

EDIT: Thought of another character for the side character section

SwiftRunner: The golden furred leader of the Werewolves in the Bracillian Forest. Can only be recruited if hes alive and the Warden sided with the Werewolves.

I doubt that Morrigan/Alistair will return as squadmates, but they'll probably make cameos at least (I for one, had warden Alistair and really wanna know what his "super secret warden mission" was). And if you stabbed Morrigan I'm betting that they'd probably do the Flemmeth thing where she has witchy powers or a Flemmeth-like horcrux thing that'll let her come back. But I doubt she'll be playable. Leliana, likewise, I can see being some sort of seeker/authority figure that gives you quests or maybe even an antagonist given your role at the end of DA2.

--- It'd be cool if in DA 3 there was a mission where you had to defeat Anders as some sort of boss because he became full-on Vengeance. But since it sounds like a lot of people let him die, I doubt Anders will be back as a playable character (Justice maybe though, but who wants Justice =\\ )

--I think Nathaniel would return as a squadmate--lots of stuff to still explore with his character.

--I can see Zev returning as a squadmate, since it seems like he's kind of a free agent these days.

---Sandal and Bodan(sp?) will probably return as well since they're DA's C3PO and R2D2 =p

---I'd love to see Master Wade return XD

--I also think that given that the DA games are about the =world= of Fereldan and not necessarily individuals (compared to ME where you're always Shepard), we're probably going to have new companions that explore different sides of the universe. Maybe a Qunari mage or an Ash Warrior or a Chevalier.

Any other random NPCs that'll come to DA 3 that were in Origins/DA2/Awakening? Kinda like how Merril/Isabela were in Origins and then popped into DA 2 for beefy roles?

I can totally see them as that.

I could see Cullen and Cassandra if it continues with the mage war and because so many people want to see more of them. Maybe Teagan if Ferelden was trying to stop war with Orlais (and possibly arrived too late).  Lia might be interesting in a larger role, though I'm not sure how she'd fit in.

Feynriel.

He is a somniari. He can bend reality to his will. Remember how Ander's unleashing Justice untranquilized Karl momentarily? I'm assuming that means it is possible for a mage to to have his power returned.

Feynriel is a somniari so even is he becomes tranquil by Hawke then Bioware can remove that possibility by giving some explanation for each.

A) Feynriel went to Tevinter, and encountered the Dragon Age III main character. If Hawke chose this then Feynriel will have one conversation about his time spent in Tevinter as well as follow up lines.
B) Feynriel became tranquil. Feynriel was attacked by (insert threat here), and his powers reemerged to save him. If Hawke made him tranquil then there will be one conversation on this happening to him, and follow up lines about being tranquil.
C) Feynriel is possessed by a demon. Feynriel purged himself of the demon when (insert emergency here). If Hawke allowed Feynriel to be possessed then there will be one conversation on it, and Feynriel will have different dialogue when dealing with demons.

Feynriel can not die plus he is the most interesting mage we met in Dragon Age II. I really don't think Bioware is going to lose out on a party member who has, dangerously, godlike power. Plus there is potential for our choices to change dialogue based on choices from the previous game.

A Quanari mage would be a real interesting choice, perhaps only joins if the Warden gets a recommendation from Sten and Hawke was respected by the Arishok.

I'd throw my vote in for Cullen too. Hes a much better character in DA2 then in 1.

B and C could go together. If Karl was an example, then demon/spirit possession may be a solution for the tranquil. Of course, if it's a demon, you lose more than you did as tranquil, but hey, I didn't say it was perfect.

I think DA3 companions will be something like this:

female warrior: Cassandra
male warrior: new (or maybe Cullen)
female rogue: Leliana
male rogue: Varric
female mage: new
male mage: new

with maybe 1 or 2 other new characters added to the mix.

I forgot about Cassandra. I'd say she could take Lilieana's place if she died in DA:O, but she has amazing ressurection powers apparently.

If not Leliana as a female rogue how about Gamelen's<sp> daughter. Wouldn't mind having her as a party member. And maybe Bethany as a recruitable mage. Also I wouldn't mind seeing Oghren back once again. I liked that drunk dwarf.<G> Also would have to bring back Morgana She was hawt. Wouldn't mind Bohdan and Sandal back as well as for Master wade.

Those characters from DAO that became full-fledged companions in DA2 were minor characters that were sure to survive (Merrill, Isabella), or had a major change with possible retcon (Anders).

Likely candidates :
-Cassandra : you can't possibly affect her in DA2, and if DA3 chronologically takes place after DA2, then she's active in the right timeframe, and we know little about her, just enough to make us curious.
-Charade : a cousin of the champion that can handle herself in a fight. aside from that, pretty much a blank slate, could go anywhere.
-Keran / Alain : now I'm not sure about these 2, I think they can be killed if Hawke is a dick, but they were young when you meet them, and they know how to fight. could evolve into full-blown party members, or just cameos.
-Bethany / Carver : probable cameo, unlikely companions, for the same reasons why Alistair couldn't be a companion ever again, there's just too many wildly different situations where they could end up, including being dead.
-Leliana : Is alive and well, and in a position of authority, probable cameo, possible quest-giver, probably too old and important to be a companion again.
-Varric : Could very well return in a supporting role or a cameo, or even as a companion (though that didn't work well for Oghren)...
-Sten : Has yet to return. Could make a cameo. Probably wouldn't be known as Sten anymore, though.

Stuff I'd like to see : An awakened darkspawn as a companion (possibly the messenger). Justice provided an unique insight into the fade and its inhabitants in Awakening and I feel this could be the same. A female 'qunari' companion for similar reasons.

In my opinion, Anders will be dead for DA3. Either you kill him or Sebastian does. For me the game kinda hinted that Anders was going to die regardless.

I think about 10 years will pass between DA II and DA III.

* Flemeth -- she's had basically two cameo appearances. I'd expect something big in the next one.
* Morrigan -- Her child is at least a teen by this time, and possesses the soul of an ancient god. -- this is assuming that 90% of the players opted for Morrigan's ritual.

Henchmen:

* Varric
* New character for female rogue
* The 1/2 Elf mage that went to Tevinter
* Bethany -- in my playthrough she went to the Circle. By this time she has risen to be second to the First Enchanter.
* Oghren
* Aveline
There may be a couple more. Possibly Hawke is one of them unless Hawke became Viscount. Maybe the Seeker.

As companions? Oghren! Maybe Merril and Zevran and Varric. I imagine Cassandra.. The rest should be new characters. Everyone else should just be part of the plot. Sten HAS to show up again in some form. Flemeth, Morrigan, Allistar, Leliana should all make appearances. Anders, in some form. Master Wade would be cool. Bohdan and Sandal. I want to know what's going on with Shale. And whether Wynne is alive or dead. And I want a bigger cast of companions. Mass Effect 2 size. I like variety and a large pool to choose from.

And finally...the return of Duncan. Seriously, did we ever find a body? Maybe he's a talking Darkspawn now...heh...or a host for Justice....

Bioware said he was dead but they brought back Anders if he died (and gave a lame ass excuse) and they brought red hair girl back. Duncan is never reported dead in-game - only by an Bioware employee...so for all we know, he could turn up doing all epic stuff with Epic Templar Guy.

Cassandra seems like a definite possibility, which I am happy about because I love what I've seen of her character so far.

Cullen is a possibility too, and people seem to like what Bioware has done with him.

Qunari ranged specialist, uses a gun. I would suggest a gravity fed system for the bullet portion and a manual breech loading system for the propellent. Weapon progression system similar to Varric's Bianca would have to be instituted. Even in Tevinter, I wouldn't think that qunari firearms would be easy to come by. It would be really interesting, you could ask him the recipe for gunpowder the first time you meet him and he would say, of course, "No.". I would also recommend him to be beresaad like Sten because it would explain why he would have rogue skills. Beresaad are like special forces recon to me and stealth skills for at least some of them must come in handy.
