So... I'm confused. Do you like Alistair?

It is unclear in your post. :)

What I meant was that Anders was a wee bit too much like Alistair in Awakening in terms of personality.Sure he had a personality of his own in DA2, but his brooding kept reminding me of Twilight (which I despise, why do other women like that movie again?).Therefore he was much more tolerable in Awakening.

Also, yes.I am indeed an Alistair fangirlPosted Image

I tolerated Alistair in both games for no other reason than being the only healer in the party. As for the similarity in personalities, I have a conjecture:
Alistair was raised by the chantry, and later became a templar. His father was essentially a rapist king who had his way with an elven servant( the relationship may have been consensual, although a servant girl may have been too intimidated to refuse the proposition of a king). Therefore, I am guessing that it is a possibility that Anders and Alistair may be acquaintances, or even half-brothers, and because of either a similar upbringing, or because of Maric's genetics, share very similar personalities.

I was surprised at his ninjamancing, made it very hard to finally give Fenris a spin

Trust me, maximum rivalry with Anders is a good thing. I've hated that guy for two games now and there is nothing redeeming about him.

Okay your post is incredibly confusing.
I assume the "i tolerated Alistair in both games" comment you mean ANDERS not ALISTAIR because Anders was a healing mage and Alistair was a warrior.

Alistair was NOT raised in the Chantry, he was raised in Redcliffe and SENT to the Chantry to be trained as a templar when he was ten.  He never became a templar, Duncan removed him before he took his vows and got all lyrium addled.

His father was not a rapist.  We are not told who his mother is beyond "a serving woman in Redcliffe Castle" (Or if you subscribe to the Fiona as his mom, she was a GW elven mage and she practically JUMPS Maric not the other way around).  Additionally I have to wonder if she was the serving girl, was she anything like money grubbing Goldanna? Apple doesn't fall far from the tree and she wouldn't be the first servant to try to raise her lot in life with a royal/noble bastard in her belly.

It has been said on the boards here when the issue first came up after Awakening's release that Anders is NOT one of Maric's bastards besides the fact that he has a similar appearance and a superficial resemblence of personality with Alistair.

Alistair and Anders did not know each other prior to the events of Awakenings, they did not travel in similar circles, no pun intended.  Anders was a teenager/tweener when he was sent to the circle in Ferelden.  Alistair never served there as a templar since he never actually became a templar.

Nor is Anders Alistair's half brother.

But to get to the OT, yes I found him very annoying.  The last time i tried to use him more, he started whining in banters with the group and i stashed him back in his cubby hold in Darktown to wait till Act 3 again.
He's far more emo than that Twilight Cullen.

Actually I think Fenris is way closer to Twilight, than Anders is.Not that Anders doesn't do his share of whining. When I had the opportunity to murder-knife him in Act 3, I sqee'd.
It's also worth noting that I sold Fenris's ass back into slaveryPosted Image

Yea Fenris annoys me too but at least he has a legitimate gripe against the Magisters having been a slave in Danarius' 'not so tender' hands.  But his whole "I hate all mages, magic sucks...blah blah blah" he's just the flip coin of Anders, who hates the Chantry/templars/Circles.

Both Anders and Fenris were annoying SOB's if you want my honest opinion about the two of them. By as  Slyvanaerie said Fenris did have a good reason to hate mages after what had been done to him. Fenris is a great Melee fighter and I found myself taking him with me more so than even Avenlene.

Fenris is more of an annoyance as he is some Final Fantasy character ninjadropped in DA. Fits like a fist on an eye. I never bothered talking with him anymore after the first playthrough.

It's as if David Gaider rolled every JRPG cliche into one character.Hell, the only thing missing was the spiky hair.Luckily he still had emo bangs.

One thing I found is that to avoid having to basically avoid have Anders flirt with you is to pick the sarcastic charming option when he apologizes about getting a bit weighty about why he joined up with Justice.  You'll still take a rivlarly hit but it'll be only 5 instead of 10.

Truth be told, I found Anders alright in Acts 1 and 2 but became annoying in Act 3.  Though really this is more to the point that as the situation with the mages and templars gets worse, the more annoying Anders gets.

I also found Fenris a bit annoying as well with all his constant broodiness.  Honestly, I would've preferred it if he became lost on what to do once you kill Danarius.

I do.  More experience cause he summons up waves of spirits and guards.  And the 'turn Fenris over to the dipsh*t slaver' option was so ...lame.  I expected maybe a fight against Fenris, Danarius, more slavers etc.  All I got was a 'How could you' hang dog expression and he just walks away.
Frankly, he was of use in battle because he's decent DPS without the brittleness of 2handers in DAO but I wish I could muzzle him AND Anders.

Well...To be fair I was already playing a 2h female warrior, therefore Fenris was pretty much useless.I was also disappointed that Fenris didn't fight back.It would have been so satisfying to get a cutsene where we see Hawke decapitate him.It would have been the only "awesome" thing about this "game".Sadly, I use the game as a coaster instead.

You have to reject Anders just for the face Hawke makes. That "EWWWW" face is comedy gold.

yea my Hawkistair was a 2hander and I didn't use him at all except for his quests. That's how I got to see the scene.

The lack of well-written romantic interests like Alistair really ruined the game for me(besides, you know, everything else about it).

Well I like the reactive events in the game when something happens. DAO wasn't that way. If you kill Alistair no one, not even Wynne bats an eyelash or mentions it.
In DA2, not only does Varric express his sorrow at the loss of Bethany/Carver in the Deep Roads (GW or not) but your LI comes to see you after Leandra's death to comfort you. (or Aveline if no LI). And Aveline has a convo with you afterward regardless of who comforts you in Hawke's estate.
Wesley gets mentioned by Aveline (and is even used by the Desire Demon in the fade if you bring Aveline and not isabella with you) not just once but several times.
Aveline has a relationship quest that's funny and the story actually progresses naturally from there with them married and you can ask how the honeymoon went. Instead of everyone hanging vicariously on Warden's every word/action, they have their own lives. Codex for just about everyone has them coming and going throughout the course of the story, maybe we will even get some DLC sidetracks with it.
I'd love to see something about an adventure looking for the relic with Isabella and finding that stash they talk about in Act 2.
Or having an adventure with Aveline and her hubby in Orlais on their honeymoon and maybe that's one reason why she won't talk with you.
DAO was good but I like DA2 as well, for other reasons.

and yea I have to agree with you on the romance options. Het females got completely dicked over.
Whiny emo terrorist who won't shut up about the templars/circle.
Whiny emo JRPG rip off character who won't shut up about the mages.
Chaste choir boy you can't even defile just a LITTLE bit...dammit.
(I would like to note that as annoying as their 'personalities' are, both Fenris and Sebastian have excellent voice actors. Even Anders's voice actor does a good job though I would have prefered to see Greg Ellis reprise his role for not just Cullen but Anders as well).

My favorite romance is the Isabella one. Running a bi-sexual LadyHawke Rogue atm and plan on flirting with Issy and the choir boy...talk about extremes...
