I can't remember what Meeran says,
But doesn't Athenril mention Hawke storming off?
I figured there was a disagreement or fight or something along those lines.

It implies that Hawke abruptly stopped working for her, whatever the reason was, and that she is not happy about losing his/her services.

My Hawke did not spend a year working for her just to end it on an unexplained departure from. Something happened it need be resolved.

Bioware I will pay for that DLC.

Yep, a workplace relationship can do that, now if we had the appropriate DLC we could pursue that relationship outside the place of business.
