Nah, read your history. Germany was losing to Russia, that's why the western armies of the Germans, in large part, fell back, Their plan was, if they're going to fall, best to fall westwards than eastwards.

You did help out, though, for which we paid you handsomely, as did others too.

It was really the Russians who are to thank for beating the Germans. America does get credit for ensuring the Russians didn't advance upon Western Europe.

U.S. are still in a state of infancy in terms of history. Europe is more or less the elders of the West. Kinda bland to hold pride over a country that doesn't have that much history, nor culture to go with, aside from it's current military.

Which is relevant how beyond the comparison I made? Despite its "infancy" the United States is more relevant and influential. Europe is slowly dying and has no teeth.

It's a great parrallel to humanity and the Council.

So to will the United States, I live here but I realize that eventually it will wane in power like Europe before it. No force is unstoppable and no object is immovable.

History is full of empires rising and falling. We would be naive to think we are immune.

That's neither here nor now. I'm sure humanity won't stay at the cutting edge forever. However if it can last as long as the Council did I'll be satisfied.

But why do they deserve all this power? The galactic community existed as it is for over a thousand years before we came along.

How do we have any right telling them how to run things when we've only been a part of their community for thirty years?

Well, right here right now the USA is the most indebted nation on the earth - indeed, in the history of the world. What point the biggest army if you can't afford the fuel to run it? Indeed, when the oil's all gone, how is a tank, helicopter etc going to run at all? Right here, right now, tomorrow's future is being born....

The future's the UN, inevitably. Similarly, the Council's future is evry race, not just one with a big gun, that's exactly like the Reapers.

That has always had it's drawbacks.

The United States supported their interests during the Cold War. We staged coups, put in brutal dictators and supplied organizations who would later oppose us with arms to fight the Soviets.

We act as though the anti-American sentiments seen in the world are entirely undeserved but it's quite the opposite.

The UN isn't the future of anything. It has no power and is, frankly, a joke. It isn't even really fair to compare it to the Council because the Council has actual authority.

I really don't know what your point is though. Are you saying that one day all races will have a seat on the Council? Sure, that's possible, but it might be a long way off.

The old Council is gone for good, and good riddance.

Yes, they take it because they can but let's not forget that as of Mass Effect 2 the turians, salarians and asari combined have a military almost ten times the size of humanity. They could wipe us out without even trying.

It wouldn't be planes flying into buildings, it would be planets being burned to ash.

No they don't and no they couldn't. If they could curb stomp us that easily they would have. Instead the asari gave up and the turians are only interested in posturing. The salarians have done very little.

A victory for the aliens, assuming they could even achieve one, would be a phyrric one. Nobody wants that and so nobody will go to war.
