I loved exploring with it. Honestly, and this isn't a jab at anybody, but I never understood why some people had trouble using it. It was versatile and fun. Please bring it back, BioWare.

Mako > Hammerhead

Though I doubt we'll have time to explore the galaxy when we are war with the Reapers.

Isn't that picture backwards?  Shouldn't those flames be on the Hammerhead?

Don't get me wrong, I loved both the Mako and the Hammerhead, but the lack of a Health Bar coupled with extremely low shielding and the inability to lock onto targets so that your missiles actually went where you wanted them too was a serious flaw. (My opinion obviously). On the plus side the handling of the Hammerhead was really quite good.  Very maneuverable, nice and agile etc so you'll hear no complaints from me on that part.

Edit: I would also prefer it if you could actually get in and out of the Hammerhead whenever you wanted to like you could in the Mako.  That part never made any sense to me.

Edit #2: Spelling fail. :pinched:

I agree. Tweaks could be helpful, such as missle lock and more shielding.

The Hammerhead is made of so much fail it isn't funny. It either needs a serious upgrade or simply needs to go. It really is that bad, IMO. As much as I want vehicle sections and exploration back, I'd rather have none at all that have to put up with that POS again.

I'm going to have to agree with Terror_K on this one, When I saw the concept art for the Hammerhead, I was overjoyed and excited because I couldn't wait to get OUT of the vehicle and explore on foot, and really feel the scale of the universe, it was a massive let down and I remember swearing profusely as I saw 3/5 missiles miss their mark despite my not even moving the Hammerhead an inch.

Couple that with the armor plating of a paper airplane, well, it got to the point where I would have to do strafing runs, just for a simple geth destroyer, when the same geth destroyer with the Mako, I could just run him over. If anything, the hammerhead has far less control precision driving than the Mako had, and while for some it got tiring driving over the landscapes, I actually really loved scouting out and wondering what would be around the next bend, and more importantly, taking different routes for different objectives, not always having to be led by the hand down a trail of bread crumbs to advance the plot.

BDtS is an example of this. you as Com. Shepard have control over which bases you want to hit first, yada yada, and that's a liberating feeling, it makes you feel like the galaxy really is that large. For all the gorgeous landscapes that were given to the Hammerhead, not actually being able to exit from the Hammerhead was a huge failing. its as if the game was encouraging you to "dash" through the levels.

what was also great about the Mako was landing on a planet, and NOT KNOWING what was going to come at you. when you landed on that certain planet, You didn't know you'd have to go feel up some space monkeys. When you landed on another planet, you would have had no prior warning that you'd be defending an Alliance squad against a horde of Rachni.

Hammerhead was more fun to drive than the mako. And while I did miss running things over like I could do in the mako, my tactics were about the same - hide behind terrain and pop out and shoot. So hammerhead > mako for me.

As far as exploration - sure, as long as we don't have cookie-cutter planets and exploration consists of looking for probes full of omni-gel fodder.

Its wierd, I didn't mind the barren planets at all, though I certainly understand that others did. If the planets in ME:1 had the same level of detail as Overlord though I challenge anyone to find fault with it!

The biggest complaint I've heard has usually been people who have tried to scale 90 degree mountain ranges then complained that they couldn't...well...duh! There were paths around the mountains. I used to go mountain climbing for fun because I enjoyed it, but if I wanted to do the mission quickly then I drove around them.

Slap the Mako's cannon and machine gun plus an actual health indicator on the Hammerhead and I will be a happy Shepard.

Squadmates riding with me are still advised to keep their sick bags close at hand, however.

If it came to a choice between the Mako and the Hammerhead, I'll take the Mako

If it came to a choice between the Hammerhead and walking to my objective, I'll walk.

The only thing the Hammerhead is useful for is as an emergency signal to the Normandy when it bursts into flames. It may have a second use if your Shepard thought to pack marshmellows, chocolate bars, and graham crackers..

The Hammerhead feels like a massive technological step back in everything beyond the fact it can hover though. The Mako had decent armour and shields, while The Hammerhead has next to no shields and seems to be made of papier-mâché. The Mako had a turnable turret that had an instant mass-accelerated cannon as well as a rapid-fire machine gun, while The Hammerhead has slow-moving missiles that miss half the time (realistically, are you really going to swap thousands of potential insta-hit shots via a block of metal over slow, large missiles that'd take up far more space and limit your ammo count to about 2% or so and do about a third as much damage) with no secondary weapon on a turret that can only point where the vehicle is facing. The Mako can drive up a roughly 80 degree slope of rough, jagged terrain while The Hammerhead would struggle with a slope even half that and needs little flat platformy sections and gradual planes, neither of which would realistically be on most uninhabited worlds. The Mako can take extreme temperatures on both sides, while The Hammerhead's engines overheat in places too hot and freeze up on places too cold (The Hammerhead, for example, wouldn't be able to handle a trip to the south pole on Earth, let alone on some of the planets out there in deep space, far from any suns. A modern-day 4x4 with proper kit can do better today than The Hammerhead can in the far future).

Overall, The Hammerhead is a very weak excuse for an exploration vehicle. The Mako is at least hardy and capable, and really is like a planetary rover mixed with a military tank.

Oh, the mako is definitely a tank while the hammerhead is not. The mako certainly makes more sense as a combat vehicle.

I just said I found the hammerhead more fun. I like the quickness and mobility. I liked dodging enemy rocket attacks. I even enjoyed the platforming. It was a more interesting mini-game for me. Pure personal preferance.

But I fully expect we won't get either vehicle. We'll get something new.

To be fair, there were MANY more tactics that could be employed with the Mako than there could with the Hammerhead. You could exit the Mako, for one, you could circle enemies for a long time without breaking down, you could kamikaze a base in the Mako and jump out when it got too beaten up, you could ram most enemies and knock them down with the machine gun, you could SNIPE from afar without your weapon targetting curving waaaay off course, etc...

"Fun" isn't as important as "functional". At least, it isn't to me. Making sure a system works is the first step to creating a fun system. Although it was easier to strafe with the Hammerhead; that was it's only plus, imo. Plus the jump jets. Oh baby, those physics were jerky.

The Mako is cool. The Hammerhead not so much, especially not in this form.

My only issue with the HH is the auto targeting system. Trying to get it to target the right enemy was a nightmare.

See, IMO, that's actually more of The Hammerhead's curse in a way. It's a platformy, mini-gamey vehicle far more than it's a practical one. It's too gamey overall and not practical or real enough, and as such it just jars with the Mass Effect universe too much, IMO. It's hard to find the game immersive at all when you're in it, IMO, and it just completely pulls you out of the universe. To me it's a bit like suddenly having a Mario Kart-esque racing section with chibi-headed squadmates in the Mass Effect universe: the gameplay may be fun as hell in an arcadey sense, but it doesn't really suit the setting and the rest of the style, IMO.

I too miss the Mako, mainly for the 'free rein' planet exploration...it actually made you feel like you were exploring some distant barren planet and had a more realistic feel (in consistency with the lore of the games). The Hammerhead served as a poor, linear surrogate, and didn't make sense. As Terror_K said, it seemed like a massive technological downgrade, minus the hovering. I mean c'mon, missiles instead of near limitless ammo that can be accelerated at blinding speeds? Shields that are no better than toilet paper? It doesn't make sense, especially considering Mass Effect lore.

I'd rather spend half an hour letting someone beat me over the head with a crowbar, it's less painful than the Scrappy tank.

Right, that's the reason I've only replayed Mass Effect twice compared to the half dozen times I've replayed the sequel that doesn't have the Scrappy, I secretly love the Mako and therefor avoid it like a Rakghoul plague zone.

do you want to step backward? unfortunately, ME 3 doesn't need mako anymore. jump & fly are much faster, efficient way than running on the ground. it's 22nd century. actually, I hate mako. it's just wrong.
ME 3 needs small jet fighter which is even advanced than hammerhead.

some sort of inbetween of the mako and hammerhead would be best.

the hammer head was easy to control. but it was way too weak.
the mako was a pain to control but was nice and tough.

make a cool hovercraft that doesnt move around as "zippy" as the hammerhead but is tough like the mako would be lovely.

wheels? where we're going we wont need wheels!
