So, I'm still quite early in the game, actually; the only places I've visited so far being Lothering and Redcliffe. So things are subject to changes, considering that my opinion about the party members tend to change the more I know about them.
But, so far, I've realized one surprising thing: if I was given the choice, I would have chosen to romance Sten instead of Alistair. Oh, the young templar is an excellent and well developed character, and I like him a lot, besides since my character is a mage, they make for a very interesting duo - the mage interested in swords and armours, and the templar interested in spells and artifacts. But, Alistair still has the typical problem of Bioware romances: he talks even too much about his feelings, he whines a lot, he's a somewhat meek follower, and he's a goody-goody-two-shoes. Now, Sten, on the other hand, sort of reminds me of Wrex from Mass Effect: the strong and tall superconcentrate of virility and testosterone; the kind of person who, when asked why he doesn't really enjoy to make long conversations, replies on the lines of "should I discuss about the weather while I behead someone?". THIS is an intriguing male character for me - and he's not superficial, but it's much harder to get him to spill the beans. Bioware apparently excels in making this kind of virile and manly individuals; but then also thinks that girls aren't interested in that kind of romance and prefers the sensitive, the talkative, the WHINY DO-GOODER guy.
Consider this, Bioware: not all women like the Kaidan/Alistair archetype. Some women actually prefer the Wrex/Sten model much more.
So, I open this idle thread merely for the fun of discussing: am I the only one who, given the choice between Alistair and Zevran, would have chosen Sten? For that matter, I do not know much about Wynne yet, but is there someone who would have liked to romance her instead of that awesome Morrigan or that annoying Leliana?
