If you break up with her you stay friends.

I was actually able to talk my way back after breaking up.  And lots of gifts and ale.  :P Ymmv.

So you say that if I didn't ask her about what a girl like her does in the Chantry in Lothering when I initially met her, all my chance for romance is gone? I just picked up the flower, and gave it to her. I hoped that would lead to something.

It took me a while of experimentation, having seen several posts both on the old forums and on this one Many people are confused about what to do to initialize the Leliana Romance.

I was a bit confused by this, since in my first playthrough it seemed to go completely automatic just by picking random responses, but I have now concluded what it takes as male 'and' female and discovered the triggers are different.

For a male character, the pivotal moment appears to be during the "What was a girl like you, doing in Lothering Chantry?" question that you can ask her as soon as she joins. You must flatter her with the "You know, a beautiful charming woman like yourself." line and then be careful not to talk about her 'fruit'. This is the absolutely most important part for a male character, since if you ask her about her 'fruit' being forbidden, you have blown the romance. You must instead say "Those initiates can't have been more lovely than you.". After you do this, Leliana will begin to romance your character.

Now for female, it is different. During the same line of questions, you 'can' ask her if her fruit is forbidden and it will not break the romance at all, because the romance seems to trigger at a different point. Once you get 50+ approval with her as a female, she will initiate a conversation complimenting your hair... THIS is the romance make or break question and your response will dictate wether or not she will start romancing you. Just be appreciative and flirt with her and most answers lead to the same conclusion.

Hope this helps someone who are still struggling with this issue. I am pretty sure these are the triggering questions, having tried many variations through many strategic saves. ( and a bundle of high approval gifts in stock ).

This is loaded with SPOILERS. Why is this here? For that matter, it should be locked...

I bagged both chicks in the same game, there should be a 'playa' achievement for that.

Morrigan is easy and even after you dump her (-26) you can STILL get her back up to 100.

That's mostly due to them being quite excessive on the gifts that you can give her.  The devs made sure that even if you play a good character who does things that she continually dislikes, there are still plenty of gifts to give her to keep her on speaking terms with you.

Romancing her with a male is fairly easy and straight forward

getting the romance started with a female char is started by one sentence

it's So you like the company of other women.

if you dont select that line i found all she'll be is a friend

How can you get Leliana in bed as a female? As a male it happened almost automatically, but as a female i had to choose between her and alistair, but nevertheless couldnt get her in my tent, though i dropped the little boy-knight for it.

hmmm, I just never got a conversation from her ever. Her and Sten have had empty conversation trees since the start of the game. Lil is on 100 for me but it's always been no conversation. Same with Sten but is approval is only around 50ish.

I just assumed it's a bug and moved on.

Yeah, same here - she's been a mute for about 30 of my 60-odd hours of play, and I can't even remember talking to her about life in the Chantry or Orlesian bards. I'm guessing it's a bug. Or she's just a dwarf-hater... :P

Really sucks, though. She's got a killer body AND a killer accent. Bit of a religious nut, but nobody's perfect... ;)

Would.

Too funny. Morrigan was all over my character after a 2 minute chat session. Didn't even need any gifts! Hadn't even left the wilds yet and she was dragging him into the tent.

Yeah I lol'd at this as well.  My first playthrough I just spoke to Morrigan a lot, and the first time I spoke to her in the camp (after Lothering) I was able to invite her into my tent.

All that time in the Wilds must've really put her in heat.

Just one more voice in the choir, but I also made comments about Leliana's "fruit" and was still able to "complete" the romance. Lol I have to start using that phrase in real life.

Interestingly enough, the romance option with her, complete with jealousy (over my romance with Alistair) popped up not once (I turned her down the first time), but twice in my game. I think there might be some other factors involved.

Sometime between the Circle and Redcliffe is when I dealt with the first romance and told her I just wanted to be friends. I went to Denerim last and the Majorlaine questline resumed at that point. I didn't even have her in my party at that point (I found Ohgren so much more fun after Orzammar) and sure enough the romance sequence started again back at camp. Complete with her jealousy over Alistair and complaining that I was playing with her emotions. I had to tell her yet again I just wanted to be friends.

I think she was secretly trying to sabotage my party because she kept enticing Ohgren to get drunk (not that that's hard) and then stealing his pants and giving them to my dog. I really don't want to know how she got them.

I think it's because the romance tracks have different triggers and can be reactivated even if they've been turned down.

I asked her, with my male human noble warrior, about her fruiit and was able to romance her just fine. That is definitely not a deal-breaker for her.

Yeah, I must lament that with the longest-term character run through (female human noble) after the talk about hair, and then shoes, then there hasn't been any conversation tree at all. Never even got the chance to ask about Orlesian bards and spies!

The other characters (including the dwarf to the left) haven't gotten very far at all.

That goes against all my testing. Picking that option and letting the game advance put that character square in the friend zone forever.

You're wrong - get over it.

Just get her p!ssed then - works with 9/10 chicks.

My character has an affair going with alistaire and leliana just can't seem to shut up. She's called my character her best friend. I don't know why others are having a problem with it.

It is also important for female PCs (and possibly males), that before you make her like you too much, you must ask her about Orlesian bards and spies. If you pass that convo tree, there is no going back and remaining romantic. If you break up with her you stay friends. (the only other possible way is to annoy her without actually breaking up with her.) Without her quest you cannot get past a certain level of affection.

I'm curious about this one. Does the spies line come later in the game for female characters? from the moment I met here I could not trigger that line at all, thoough I could in my with my male character at the same point in the game. The same dialogue choices will just not lead to that dialogue option.

As a human male noble, I definitely chose the "lovelier than the other initiates" line rather than anything about forbidden fruit and as the game progressed I managed to lose her entire conversation tree (other than, "I'd like you to leave"). If I had to guess (I don't know if this was covered in the OP, the first page is an invalid page somehow), I lost her by saying something to the effect of "you're a good friend." Definitely was able to talk about her former noble lady and shoes though. But those were the last possible conversations I had with her =/

Morrigan on the other hand, I didn't even talk to short of getting her quest and she hopped right in bed as soon as I handed Flemeth's grimoire over.

Eh, I find it weird that always Leliana complimented my PCs' hair around the early Warm stage (Late 20 to Late 30's). I never needed it to be at 50+ approval for that conversation.

Of course, it could be cause I talk about her bard life around that stage.

wrong...my first play..I did ask her about her "fruit"....and guess what...completed the romance..to the end....even talked about our love in the coronation room at the end with her in her pretty little chantry outfit before heading out the doors to trigger the ending dialogue boxes so..

...so much for you "final answer" as you're WRONG...please don't post false info

You don't need to flirt at all to get her to start the romance. You just need to be nice, really, and she will ask if you can be more than friends.
