DA3 should have Origin stories again

I really enjoyed the Origin stories in DA:O and think one game using them is not enough - the concept of Origin stories has a lot more potential to it that Bioware can use. In that line, players should also be able to select their species again - including the option to play Qunari this time, with a Qunari origin story. There is so much potential for interesting Origin stories in Thedas...it'd be a waste not to use it in DA3. :innocent:

No, they can't start every game with origin stories. Now it is time to continue and eventually finish this tale, not create an additional one.

The origins were there to begin the Dragon Age saga somehow, but in the coming game(s), BioWare should focus on the main characters they've already developed.

How many times has it been said that Dragon Age is about the world the story takes place in?
We have so many different nations, groups and cultures, and the origins are a great way of exploring them.
I know, there probably won't be origins in the future, but it's a feature that would have distinguished the DA games from others.

DA2 also had 2 origin stories really - the differences between mage and non-mage hawke were at least as much as the origin stories had, if not more. I really liked that. However, if DA3 continues the cinematic route DA2 took means that it is unlikely the PC could be dwarven or qunari - there is just too much extra work on getting the camera in the right place.

DAO was appropriate for the Origins--we were being introduced to the world at large.

While I might not mind another story with some Origins in it, I also think it can be a drain on the resources of the game to create them all, and, in DAO, the ultimate effect was a game with very little differences between it.

IMO is not the stories more like DA3 should be made mainly for PC or not for casual gamers...

Either/or, really. I'm not fussed. Having more options in terms of character creation is nice, but I play Dragon Age (and most any other game) primarily for the story and while the Origins were good in some instances for providing personal motivations in addition to the main plotline, I felt like they were mostly superficial, and didn't add a great deal to the experience for me. But then, I didn't explore them all.

I could care less about the option to play a dwarf or Qunari. Dwarves aren't my thing, and Qunari are kind of jerks. If I could be Tal Vashoth, that would be worth considering.

Since when are console users "casual gamers" by default?

The Origins stories was nice and all, but they added little to the game after you completed them imo. I believe they could use the time and money on something else to better improve the next game. If they was to put origins back in the game, would that would mean they would have to cut something else out if they have another small time frame?

I would much rather have less reused dungeons then origins stories again. I just think that they have much better things they could work on in the next game because of the many things I did not like about the game, not having origins story would not be in the top 10.

I suspect that would require scrapping PC VO, which I don't think Bioware are prepared to do.

I wouldn't mind race selection being brought back, but if the origins work out as a different first two hours at most gameplay and then everything else being the same I'd rather just have more branching, though that's not to say that da2 had a lot of branching but the mage non mage difference is fairly constant.

It has been stressed that Dragon Age is about the WORLD, not about one individual's (Hawke, for example) story.  If Bioware decides to go that route (giving us another human protagonist) than it will be a divorce between Bioware and me.  I will always treasure the years we shared together---always

Cliffhangers or not; there are other methods such as  DLCs and/or an expansion that can continue Hawke's story.  However, DA III will be another chapter into the world of Thedas with multiple races to choose from.  I am looking forward to play as a female Qunari.  Now, that would be the awesomeness of awesome. Image IPB

It would be interesting if you had to choose from two different characters from different races like an elf and a dwarf for DA3.

I never thought the origin stories would extend past Origins itself. And while I enjoyed them, I definitely felt like some of them tied better into the main story than others (compare Human Noble to Dalish for instance). But in DA2, Hawke fits neatly into the story because it's his story. Where he comes from, his family, they all matter more in DA2 than in Origins. And I like that. It made the game more personal and I was more attached to Hawke than to my Warden. I'm fine with a set character. What matters more to me is the story.

I'd prefer more personal story for a single main character, than lots of story snippets for lots of main characters.

Although the origin stories were a lot of fun, I felt like Hawke was far better integrated into the story with just the one, dedicated origin instead of having to find a one-size-fits-all way to integrate all of them. Also having the different races again would probably eliminate the chances of having a voiced protagonist because of the amount of resources required, and I really loved the voiced protagonist.

Don't be too certain of that - they'd only have to look at how well DA:O sold and how well it was received, to know that that formula can be very successful. Especially if they improve on it by making origin stories more meaningful. For example, by having origin-specific quests in equal measure to the companion-specific quests. You could have a short origin-specific questline run right along the main questline, similar to how each companion has its own questline. It would be great for replay-value.

I'd like to think they'd consider scrapping PC VO, but I think the dialogue wheel, PC VO and the overused cinematics are BioWare's shtick now.

I don't have a huge problem with them necessarily, but I'd imagine all that acts as a significant drain on resources that could be better used elsewhere. Otherwise you end up with the sort of linea, no choice/consequence sort of story like DA2.

But yeah, I don't think they'd bring back Origin stories so long as they do the player VO, as that means a boatload of VO. Personally, I'd love to see Origin stories return- even if you brought back Hawke or the Warden, you could have different starting points/ Origin stories based on how you ended the prior game that bring Hawke/The WArden to some common point in the story.

Loved Origin stories. Even if its just race selection or Mass Effect style background choice i'll be happy.

I could see them doing a sort of hybrid. Have a protagonist be mostly silent, still track the way your responses tend to work like DA2, and then use the voice selected in the creator (like in DAO for battle cries) be used sporadically in cutscenes and such cinematic moments.

Otherwise during the conversations themselves the character could be silent.

Granted, I'd hate that. But I imagine a lot of people would like it.

I hope the VOed protagonist goes away in some hypothetical DA3 in favor of the better role playing mechanics of the Origin stories. Dragon Age actually has a fairly robust facial animation system and if they used it to actually make a silent character have some actual presence in a conversation as opposed to just standing there it would work out just fine. Heck even Revan had some character during conversations and that was just a random animation sequence played on loop.

Plus the upside of having the main character not talk is that they'll never say something unexpected or stupid.

Origin stories would be awesome. That and taking away the ****** poor Dialogue wheel. (wouldn't mind VO only if they make it clear what your character is going to say.. Sick of getting surprised at Hawke/Shepards responses.)

Having a Elf, Dwarf, Circle, Qunari and Human Origin would be awesome.. Who wouldn't want to play a Qunari Mage for one playthrough and then a Human Warrior the next? The game would differ alot just by your mindset through your Origin.

I remember playing Human noble, then Elf Commoner, my elf commoner became a much more evil character just due to what happened to him in his Origin.
