With all the negativity surrounding DA2 still pouring in, I felt compelled to post my impressions of what I perceive to be an excellent (albeit not perfect) game. Naturally, I will make some comparisons to Origins:

Overall user interface:
Menus all look clean and easy to navigate.
Loading screens are an absolute delight compared to the one loading screen in Origins repeated over and over again.
The art style of these are also very unique as far as fantasy games go. It has it's own identity which is a good thing.
Once in the game, the UI is much less obtrusive than it was in Origins with a more transparent look, especially the mini map.
Full maps are also a lot easier to navigate (except for the fact that blocked areas still show as accessible which got me a bit lost at times)
Attributes, Abilities and Tactics menus are also layed out in a way to make it feel less cumbersome than Origins.
World map however does not really help with getting an overall geographic feel for the layout of Kirkwall and the surrounding areas. This was done better in Origins, although the addition of day/night toggle is a welcome addition.
OVERALL - BETTER THAN ORIGINS

Environments:
Although there are a lot of recycling done (which I am not happy with), the environments do look amazing. I often find myself looking around and very few times did I see unfinished textures (not speaking of NPCs).
The detail of some textures are so much better than it was in Origins, giving it much more atmosphere also thanks to the great music and ambient sounds.
Lighting in all areas also vastly improved.
OVERALL - MUCH BETTER THAN ORIGINS

Animations & object textures:
This is one area where I think Origins did better - strangely enough. Especially with facial and head movement, animations in DA2 seems more wooden.
Although interaction with objects have been added, it has also highlighted the absolutely appalling hand animation and design.
Some textures look really good, especially on unique weapons and armor. Sadly however, this is let down by some really bad textures on some generic pieces (cameo character armor for example). I've not seen such bad textures in Origins.
Moving sky, fire and smoke animations and textures on the other hand are vastly improved from Origins, especially when enabling DX11.
Areas like The Hanged Man that should be packed with people only have a handful of NPCs standing around, some of which look pretty bad. However not much different to the way it was done in Origins.
OVERALL - SOME BETTER, SOME WORSE

Gameplay:
Still feels distinctly like playing Dragon Age.
The one thing I miss most is not being able to have a conversation with a companion when I choose to, instead having to wait for a prompt.
Combat feels fresh and remains fun throughout the entire game, as opposed to the incredibly tedious combat in Origins.
Waves of enemies also makes it feel a lot more organic and realistic and keeps you on your toes throughout.
All classes are fun to play now, much better balance than Origins.
Travelling also seems better especially having multiple exit points in all (or most) areas.
There are a good number of choices which does have effects later on, however would have liked to see more branching out based on these choices more.
OVERALL - MUCH BETTER THAN ORIGINS

Sound & Music:
So much better in so many ways! Too many things to list.

In order to avoid the danger of this post becoming a grocery list, I'll end with saying that in my opinion Dragon Age 2 is overall on par with Origins. Many things are done better, but sadly for many people this is overshadowed by the things that are done worse or perhaps only different than Origins.

I still love Dragon Age and hope the franchise never dies! :o

[Edit]
For those who have a problem with me using the word "fantastic":

fan·tas·tic   [fan-tas-tik]–adjective1.conceived or appearing as if conceived by an unrestrained imagination; odd and remarkable; bizarre; grotesque: fantastic rock formations; fantastic designs.2.fanciful or capricious, as persons or their ideas or actions: We never know what that fantastic creature will say next.3.imaginary or groundless in not being based on reality; foolish or irrational: fantastic fears.4.extravagantly fanciful; marvelous.5.incredibly great or extreme; exorbitant: to spend fantastic sums of money.6.highly unrealistic or impractical; outlandish: a fantastic scheme to make a million dollars betting on horse races.7.Informal . extraordinarily good: a fantastic musical.

Come on, you love Bioware and Dragon Age as much as I do, otherwise you would not have bothered looking at these forums or reading my post.

You knew what the thread was about when you saw the title.

Either way, I agree that the forums needs a bit more positivity. Though the players' concern is understandable.

I was expecting the thread to be ironic from the title honistly. The game has exelent concepts that are poorly exacuted, it's a big jump to get from an 'exelent' game to a FANTASTIC game.

This remindes me of the simpsons epasode whare mister burns creates an award for homer for outstanding acheavement in the feild of exelence as a PR gimic.

The forums are more entertaining than the game. I fully expect EA to start charging a monthly fee any time soon.

Prefer the character interaction in DA2 to the one in DA:O. But something that I miss from DA:O was being able to get a nice environment for some talks =) oki, I'm a Alistiar-girl and some especially cute ones I would choose to take near the water by the mages tower since it was such a nice place. Now I'm romancing Anders and he is wonderful. Just wish that I could meet up and talk once in a more pretty place. Hmm... I would love to get a dlc that covers one of the time jumps that has the possiblity to take a walk with Merrill in the viscounts garden. Walk with Isabella along the shore and talk about sailing. Sit on a rooftop wiht Anders and watch the stars. Would really like to get Fenris happy and laugh a bit, food fight in the Hanged Man? Don't see that happening anytime soon but it would be nice to have one or two talks in a 'nice' setting. I get in the romance mood so much easier with Fenris with the music and sitting there in the chairs and talking. Anders has to work a bit more =) One thing that I don't miss is that quite often when I spoke with Zevran he was lighted in a very strange way when the fire was behind him. It just made him look strange. That's why I prefer having a scene with the one that you are talking to, they are moving around and interact with you. You don't just see them from the shoulders and up when talking to them. If I could get one or two talks in a new area I would be so so happy.

I think that the new caverns and such are so much better than the ones in DA:O. They have ferns and look so great! Wish the mini-map didn't show things that aren't there. It get's a bit confusing sometimes. That they are somewhat repeatable isn't so bad for me =)

Well I'm glad you got your moneys worth.I dont agree but  that is my opinion. It isnt a bad game but I wouldnt rate it good.Ok is as far as I will go.As far as negativity well there are people that dont like what came out. They have the right to post there opinion same as anyone else. They shelled out the money for the game.Echo chambers are really boring.I have completed it 3 times. Also have completed DAO twice since DA2 came out.I wont admit to how many times I have played it before DA2.I hope DA3 does come out.I wont preorder this time.

Dubya75, I agree with you whole-heartedly. Seems there's a conspiracy to just bash this game for lack of nothing else. I'm not crazy about the repeating caves and I wish I could make my Hawke look more (a lot more) like me. But this is a great game and that's coming from someone who loved DA:O and played through it at least four or five times.

This will now be my standard response whenever someone complains about the game.

Because opinions differing from your own obviously can't be taken seriously.

Waves of enemies also makes it feel a lot more organic and realistic and keeps you on your toes throughout.

Nothing's more realistic than an innumerable amount of thugs jumping from the sky to slash you up. The only game more notorious for vicious waves on the hardest difficulty would be God of War.

I jest but it sure seems that way.

While I agree on some of the op's comparisons I can't fathom where fantastic came from in the end.The game is nowhere near as bad some people make out. There is good and bad, some progression and regression. If you're talking about value I've managed to get 59 hours 24 mins out of it so far in one playthrough and that wasn't time on the pause menu or codex journal!! I don't know how when I read other peoples times,I do take my time and that's on act 3 I think very close to finish and skipping some act 2 stuff! Anyway the reuse of cave/dungeon layouts was lazy and I think most people agree on that.I guess there are different things that people like in game for example I seem to be the only one that liked probing in ME2 ,I just found something relaxing about it.As for Dragon age 2 I place it on thre scale of enjoyment rather score since the whole review system is merely opinion anyway. Both games are highly enjoyable in their different ways.I can see where the critics are coming from but for me personally I like it.

Here's some positivity for you: Dragon Age 2 is indeed a good game. But never compare it to Origins. If you compare, you lose!

The only thing I would say is better in 2 is the Tactics setup. Better options and work better too. I would say responsiviness as well but then I remember how many times I cannot move my controled char with the Keyboard, God knows why, in the middle of a battle. Only after a right-click the keyboard start responding again. I hate being stuck in the middle of a battle because the control just won't respond. Prolly another bug of this game full of bugs and very like Origins, some may never be fixed!

So you miss the conversation with your companians, but its much better than Origins?
The hack-and-slay style combat feels fresh?
Waves of enemy that spawn in front of your face, destroying tactical playing, and that is a good improvement?

And tell me which are the "good number of choices" that affect the story more than Origins?

I give you some examples of Origins, try to give me the counterpart in DA2 of this choices:
-DAO Tower of the mages: Annulment or Save the first enchanter
- DAO Brezilian Forest: Kill all elves or free witherfang
- DAO Quest for the andrastes ashes: side with the fanatics and destroy the ashes or kill them
This are real choices who affected the story

Overall - much better than Origins? Never!

Ever here the saying why change a good thing? I like your quote too. I am glad people like this game more then me because it keeps the franchise alive. The part I love about the DA2 and haven't read enough on is the amount that your Gray Wardens choices (DAO) really effected Hawks world & some quests. This alone, make all Bioware fans give this game A good rating. The game hold up on it's own? Yes, I think, for though gamers that like Action style games. For RPGamers they really need the DAU collect to truly enjoy it.

Indeed. The impotent nerdrage, insults on intelligence of people who like the game or not, demands of apology, refunds and firing of people... All for a game.

You don't get comedy like this on TV anymore
