this is a solid post. and i fully agree. DA2 is a fantastic game and can stand on its own.

Excellently said!  There are many folks here who would like BG and DA:O wrapped in shiny new covers and call it a new game.  Then they talk like they have been personally transgressed against making themselves just look backward and silly.

Forge ahead Bioware!  Great game!

Not sure if the OP realizes April Fools has already come and gone.

This is obviously a joke topic, and a failed one at that.

The forums are more entertaining than the game.

Indeed. The impotent nerdrage, insults on intelligence of people who like the game or not, demands of apology, refunds and firing of people... All for a game.

You don't get comedy like this on TV anymore

I know.....all for a game :)  Sometimes I point out the more absurd nerd-rages to my wife and we have a good chuckle.  I'm a bit more kind than she is so I won't repeat what she says..... but yes, the folks who have actually put their emotional well being into this game and then go flying off in a fit of apoplexy lonely nerd-anger can be entertaining if not a tad bit embarrassing.

Those that forget the past are doomed to repeat it.  Meaning that you never learn from your mistakes.

Bioware did make quite a few mistakes in this game.  Mistakes that could have been avoided if they had looked to their older games for some ideas and inspirations.  Athkatla was far more diverse and interesting than Kirkwall ever will be because of all the nuances, quests, npcs, and areas that made up the city.

Bioware was so focused on change and the notion of "push a button and something awesome happens" that they never thought to look back for ideas on how to make the game.

Change just for the sake fo change is not always better.

If it was actually just different, that would be one thing. But DA2 is in no way fantastic. It's the opposite.

This will now be my standard response whenever someone complains about the game.

Because opinions differing from your own obviously can't be taken seriously.

You miss the point.  The thread doesn't seem like a joke because the OP likes the game.  It's the way they have expressed it.

Firstly, in the heading the OP is saying that the game is "FANTASTIC" in big capital letters as if to imply that the game is some sort of jaw-droppingly awesome masterpiece.  (Even though their actual post suggests that they don't actually think this is the case)

Second, their ensuing analysis is quite reasonable, and though I personally disagree on many of the points, what they say is quite well reasoned and they make respectable points.  However, after discussing each part of the game, they then feel the need to re-use BIG CAPITAL LETTERS!!!! to state the DA 2 is better than DA O.  This makes it seem like some sort of joke as if they need to make their points using such absurd punctuation.  Doing this makes it seem like a sarcastic joke.  (Though I realise it's probably not)

I thought DA 2 was awful, but love games that change and redefine genres.  The fact is that it's not so much the "change" that has disappointed me, it's the woeful implementation of those said changes.  All things considered, less change would have been better in this circumstance.

I mostly liked the changes from ME1 to ME2.  But from DA O to DA 2 they were executed terribly in my opinion.

I agree with the op.Those complaining most of the time we know who they are.Yknow the type, rushes through ,hack an slash type.DAO did not have a fully voiced over main character.Combat is way more interactive but maintains its RPG element and not fps.Origins is a good game but development of the engine behind the game is what keeps gaming companies in the market.
This is what you see with DA2.

These games are not cheap to make.Theres alot of effort that goes into them as many indy developers are finding out on there own.The Witcher series uses a modified Bioware game engine. So im rather amused to see them call out DA2 devs on graphics.Nudity ,Witcher? Is that your selling point?LOL!Youll have to do better than that.

For me ive got a job so i cant sit down and burn through a game in 12 hours like some internet junkies can.If there is a DA3 it will more than likely be a combination of DAO and DA2.Dont be surprised if another engine is developed for it.

Sorry to disappoint you, this is no April fool's joke.
And since when is a topic a fail based on someone's review of a game?
Oh I get it, because you don't agree with it, it must be a fail. Gotcha!

Lovely review! I do not agree with all of it but it's good to see a polite, in depth and generally positive review here. It still takes a bit of guts to speak up if you love the game (On the General Discussion Forums anyway) and I applaud you for it! +5000000 approval from me!

On side note Dubya you have yourself said over past few weeks on here that you liked it at first defending it at every chance then you disliked it and now your saying it's fantastic.. Pick a side and stick with it. It's far, far from a fantastic game -slightly above average at best. Drogo is a troll he does nothing but start threads to flamebait so really not worth time reading his comments anymore and thats why no-one takes anything he says seriously. But I am surprised at you Dubya the constant back and forth between good>bad>best thing since sliced bread, because it's not fantastic and you know it isn't unless you somehow just had an epiphany.

True, I have criticised the game (hopefully in a constructive way) as much as I've praised it.
However, having then gone back and played some Origins and having also now completed 2 playthroughs of DA2 (each in excess of 50 hours) I found myself in a better position to review the game properly, to take a step back and figure out how I feel about the game without being too influenced by what others are saying.
My FINAL verdict: 8.5 out of 10.

I think it's fantastic and I certainly did not have an epiphany. Must people be so personal just because someone loves something they dislike?

I'll remember that the next time I join a Tudor related discussion.

DA2 is the Anne Boleyn of Bioware games. And Anne Boleyn (Despite being maligned, trashed and reviled for almost 500 years) is still my fave of good old Harry's wives.

The difference is you have always liked it your 1/8 people on here who jumps to defend it at every chance this is how you are and it's well known because of the fact you love it. You haven't changed your stance 3+ times within a few weeks. This is the difference. Epiphany is something that drastically changes ones stance to something yours has been constant so don't see why your trying to be a smarty pants (putting it politely) towards me when my point is valid.

In Holland we have this saying, a child's hand is easily filled. If you think DA2 is fantastic you're actually saying it's fine to have an unfinished game and you won't give BW an incentive to make games better. DA2 has potential, but is an unfinished game. People who think the game is fantastic either work for BW or very easily satisfied.

Look, Dubya has explained this. above. But I do understand where you're coming from. As for 1/8, maybe on the General "Discussion" forums. (Haven't seen much discussion there lately, the Spoiler forums offer way more there). =]:)

Or they just happen to disagree with you because they have different tastes? YEESH. It's exactly that kind of elitist attitude that bugs me to no end.<_<

Actually my point was the whole "Anyone who thinks it's fantastic must either be working for Bioware or it must take very little to please them" attitude being snobby and elitist. Hey, saying DA2 isn't fantastic? Fine by me. But do NOT tell me that I MUST be a Bioware employee or someone who's "easily pleased" because I DO think it's fantastic.

perhaps because as a design it's not FANTASTIC? If anything it plays like a rushed out halfbaked compromise. Few of the concepts expressed gelled together IMHO. The game is passable but defanatly not up to biowares typcal standerds.

It's not fantastic to you. To me some aspects of the game were bloody brilliant. Am I saying it's perfect? No. But people have every right in the world to think it's a fantastic game. Or to think it's not fantastic. Opinions make the world interesting, you know?=]
