By the same token, then, can you see why 'Is this a joke?' would be taken the way that numerous posters in this thread have taken it? When I see someone say 'Is this a joke?', my immediate belief (if it's not in any way an obvious joke post) is that they want to point out that they want to show that they disagree with the post, and consider it absurd that anyone would seriously have that opinion - without addressing any of the points specifically.

It's all about tone, on both ends. And since text is a notoriously difficult medium in which to convey subtleties of tone, you have to be aware of how you express yourself.

Of course such a quip as "is this a joke" can be construed a certain way if the post (as you put it) is "not in any way an obvious joke post."

However, this is where I perhaps disagree with you in terms of my interpretation of the post.  While I can't speak for others, I can say that in all honesty, the OP's post was so flagrantly over-the-top that at best, I believe that it was quite ambiguous as to their intentions.  There was some serious content and argument, but the glowing superlatives made it seem difficult to judge the thread and take the OP seriously.  Consider also, that this OP has changed their opinion twice already and this only makes it harder to not treat this thread as a joke.

Edit:  Anyway, I understand where you're coming from and the position you are in as a moderator and the necessity to keep this forum civil.  I apologise for my choice of words because they clearly have been misconstrued.

Yup, that's exactly what I thought when I saw the "Is this a joke?" responses. Real freakin' mature. A staple when it comes to some people who just want to bash the game.

The OP had some excellent points, most of which I agree with. If you want to disagree with him, fine. But with the 10s of posts, usually on the front page, from people bringing this game down and talking about how they're disappointed with it, I don't know why these same people feel the need to go into a post where someone is positive about the game and try to tear it down.

Just because your ice-cream sucks, doesn't mean you should go around pissing in other people's ice-cream.

Sad.

Sorry but exploding bodies is ridiculous and diminishes the integrity of this game.

If that's what most consolers want...I weep for society.

For someone who most of the time says "nice story bro" or "sucks to be you". Your the last person who should be taking the moral high ground.

I really love Dragon age 2,specially with my beautiful sarcastically joking female character

At first i really loved Dragon Age Origins but sorry after a while the tedious boring dialogues and slow gameplay bored the hell out of me,but in Dragon Age 2 i really love listening to what people say and i really laugh alot with some of the things people say

come on u gotta love this character :

I agree it was fantastic.

Random aside: I see so many people complain about the 'exploding bodies' but I barely noticed them. Who cares? Really? I kinda missed the death animations like decapitation and whatnot but this complaint is raised as often as the recycled areas. I'll never understand. But then, I expect most of the people who complain about it will never understand why I love the game so much.

That's mostly due to the fact that even a simple non-critical melee attack from a dagger can cause a body to instantly blow up into meat sauce.

Just finished my first play through - i skipped alot of side quests i admit.

The game never gripped me like DA:O did; i was never in the game to the point i wanted to play until the early hours of the morning to see what happens next, cant quite put my finger on what it is exactly.

None the less im starting a new warden in DA:O and working my way right the way through the games doing everything possable.

Any game that so lazily reuses the exact same cave, mansion, and warehouse for 5 or more quests each does not in ANY WAY deserve the adjective "FANTASTIC" in all caps or in regular letters.

Sorry, this post is a big fail for hyperbole (in the same way that a post calling the game an epic failure is). The game is a dissapointment because we expect more from Bioware. But- It is not a terrible game any more than it is a fantastic game.

DA2 was way better than DAO, imo. I would even dare to say that when compared to all other BioWare games I've played (KOTOR, JE, ME1, DA:O, ME2, DA:A), DA2 was the best and most complex.
And honestly, I don't quite get all the negativism about DA2. Obviously, there's always something you could criticize about any given game (too much action, too hard combats, too easy combats, ... whatever), but things that DA2 gets the criticism are the same for other BW games. (I wouldn't call level design in DAO excelent, for example.)

Anyone else just stop reading after the "environments" section? I can understand a different opinion, but all I can think when I read that is "how much does Bioware pay you to post?"

Yeah, I get what you mean. Everyone's entitled to their opinion at the end of the day, but for someone to seriously claim the environments were significantly better in DA2, despite the gross repetition of them (to an extent beyond any game released in the last few years - even ME1 only did this kind of thing on the sidequests) and the heavily restricted outside areas, they're either serving some agenda, woefully unaware of the current standard or haven't comprehended the meaning of what they're saying. Most normal people wouldn't consider a vast reduction in design and variations to be something positive.

I'm fairly sure this guy wouldn't walk around claiming McDonald's is FANTASTIC if he went up to order a Big Mac and he got an empty bun for the same price.

The reason the 'negativism' has been so acute for DA2 is that it's a backward step from DA:O in virtually every area. Less content, less interaction, less variations, and shorter, less involved storyline. It should really be self-evident why it got a lot of flak.

And frankly, claiming that it's better than ME2 and KOTOR is a pretty outlandish claim to make with no justification. What did it for you? The awesome button, perhaps?

Trying too argue the fact that DA2 is good with some of these negative Nancys is like trying too argue with a deaf man.....DA2 was awesome it had it's flaws but some of you forget origins got a ton of hate about glitches and map recycling on that game aswell..... Tons of hate happened when Me2 came out, although the combat was improved alot so stop kidding yourselves! but atleast some of the fairly based and the baseless hatred on theses thread makes for good reading.

love one part of da2 evolution which is especially the sarcastic female hawke.
fantastic model (first time ever that i didnt customized my char) and fantastic voice over. Made her adorable.
also a lot of vivid characters and events had more depth and credibility than in DAO where mainly Loghain was twisted and had credible depth.
NPCs and templars gave cool and plausible comments about player char being a mage, somethingwhich was nearly completely missing in dao.
Merril was also very nice and cute.
Stories (mages vs templars) the qunari and the serial killer rocked as well as the family saga.
There was much to rant about, which i already posted in the critics thread.
Mage combat was cool.

after calming down regarding tactical changes and reuse of stuff, i would give it 8/10 with origin rating 9/10.
however i wouldnt want to miss the improvements (and my sarcastic femhawke now).. feels strange to play dao now.. not as bad as returning from dao to nwn2..but still..
