i have just finished dragon age 2 took me 31 hours and it was one of the best games i have ever played i really enjoyed it but the problem is that it was just to fast and my only options are to make another char and to play it all over agian which i dont want to because i just cant play the same game more than once but i honestly feel like i have just wasted 60$ for less than a week Image IPB

Hmm well, it's a matter of the players own opinion when it comes down to replays. If they liked it then it's very easy to do more than just one playthrough.

Difference in opinion is the one TRUE fact on these forums. :P

We're all different, honey.

I'm on playthrough number 3 and already have 4 and 5 planned. My first 2 runs took just over 60 hours each. I expect that time will reduce the more I play though.

Depending on your play style I'm sure it's possible to get through this game in 12 hours or in 100 hours (we've seen people post their final game save screens with those times as proof).

If you can't play the same game more than once, well, there's nothing anyone can do to help you with that. I'm assuming you don't buy other AAA games often, the ones with 8 hours max of campaign. 8 hours for $60 is a valid complaint.

I am playing the different classes so I will have a least 4 complete DA:2 runs. I only had 2 for DA:O.

With great difficulty..I managed 2 runs and on my second playthrough it just felt like a chore. I wasnt playing 3 or 4 hours at once it was more like an hour then i was thinking, oh good that parts over not long to go. I only did a 2nd playthrough to see the carver/bethany outcomes.
I mean this is the real reason i marked this game at 7/10 the replay value is nil. I played DAO through 6 times inc all DLC and awakening didnt drag at all. The reuse of maps was such a damn eyesore and its been raised so many times here on this forum that even EAware must know by now it was the wrong way to go. My advice is go play something else then come back and try again just so you can see how the story pans out with the other sibling.

I probably won't replay it, maybe i'll do it once if I haven't sold it on in a year's time. I only got it last week and have just started act 2 and i'm already bored of the same locations over and over and over again.

Now personally I feel it's a very low end of the scale mediocre game and couldn't force myself to finish it once, so I have empathy for those who can't play any more.

However when you say the following statement "i have just finished dragon age 2 took me 31 hours and it was one of the best games i have ever played i really enjoyed" and the game cost you $60 - that's around $2/hour, then my sympathy is limited. You enjoyed the game and got a reasonable length of time playing it. Yes, in comparison to previous Bioware titles it's probably not as good value, as most of those are very replayable and usually longer. However compared to most games on the market 30 hours is a lot, especially as you say you enjoyed it.

The game does reward second and subsequent playthroughs, as there are things that you notice the second time round that you didn't the first that foreshadow what is to come.

well i replayed Mass Effect 1 and 2 probably a good dozen times... and those games basically have 1 ending with a myriad of "either/or" choices along the way

If you finished the game in 30 hours then I guarantee you've missed lots of side quests and stuff.
I'm on my third playthrough now playing as a mage and the experience is quite different from playing a warrior for example.
Dragon Age is meant to be re-played. It's an RPG.

Thats kind of sad..

Remember, all work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy.

I can justify going through the game 3 times at least - so you can try male/female Hawke, the 3 personality types, going mage/templar, playing the 3 classes, carver/bethany, 3 different romances, etc Not to mention dificulty modes.

How do you guys measure the time you've played a game? Unless it is a steam game, I don't see a counter, and I lose track of the time when I play. Or is there a timer somewhere I've never seen?

The saves say how long you played. Well on the PS3 they do at least.

Add to this the Friendship/Rivalry paths. (Leading to very different endings for some companions for example. I.E. Aveline. And Rivalmances RULE!)

I agree.  But justifying it isn't the problem.  Tolerating it is.

First combat wave I had to slog through on my 2nd playthrough I was like "I'm out".  I can't do it.  I'm glad some are able to enjoy the game on multiple playthroughs, I normally get that in a BioWare game.  I might try to force myself through it after the next patch maybe.

(And I would suggest to whoever is reading and hasn't played the game yet not to do the witty personality first, because the other two will seem boring by comparison)

Thanks. I wouldn't have thought of looking there! Image IPB

Yes that's a good point. Though honestly I just can't bring myself to rival any of the female companions. Unlike with the guys where it's basically just opposing whatever faction they stand for, for Aveline/Merrill/Isabela you really have to be mean to them <_<

I do enjoy the combat immensely though, and it's different enough as a mage, a warrior or a rogue I think.

It's funny actually, in DA:O I felt the same way as you do now. I loved trying different characters/story paths, but going through the battles repeatedly was tiring.

I'm playing at least 3 playthroughs to see:

-All 3 classes
-All 3 personalties
-All genders(maybe)
-All romances
-Rival paths
-Choice differences(there was two in Act 2 that surprised me)

So yeah, I think it's very replayable.

Not true.  There are lots of friendship / rivalry point opportunities in the game, enough that you can pick and choose.  So, for example, I've successfully taken both Merrill and Aveline to 100% rivalry without being nasty once.  You just challenge their worldview - stop Merrill from her blood magic and doomed mirror scheme; stay on the shady side of the law and challenge Aveline's platitutes and assumptions.  Similarly it's possible to be pro-mage and take Fenris to 100% friendship.

Aveline's rivalry path is definitely more satisfying than her friendship path; I would say you're being a better friend to Aveline as a rival than as a friend, in fact.

Even if you can't play it again, you got 31 hours for $60. If that's not entertainment value, I don't know what is. You must never watch movies in theaters, or even rent them.

I bought a sandwich for $8 the other day. I got maybe 20 minutes out of it max, and I was trying to eat it slowly.

I suggest buying a ball. With a little imagination, you can do anything.

With Merril it's not that difficult.  One decision in Act 2 will net you 55pts towards rivalry, and then the two followup conversations give you another 25 each.  As this section is spoiler free I will leave you to work out where.
