Zaeed didn't thrill me. Neither did Ash or Kaiden, and Tali in Me1 was a bit boring, a 100% better in 2. Talking to her in 1 during combat situtions when she said 'Take out those hostiles!' in a strange accent always made me giggle though,

Still love em all mind you.

You know, I wanted to like Kasumi but I keep asking myself "Why are you on my ship again?"
Thane seemed kinda 2D too.

My only problem was Grunt..and that's only because I found Okeer far more intriguing and would've preferred him. Grunt on his own merits is a good character though.

Miranda. Couldn't even get her own face. I really don't like when a character is trying to become more appealing by shoving her ass into the foreground all the goddamn time.

And...any character that's connected to the three big mercenary bands.

Most boring character ever was Kaiden. He was weak as a sentinel/teammate, and he was so quiet and unsociable. I felt like he was planning on killing me from behind.
Dumbest character would have to be Jack. Acted tough and badass, which didn't fit her at all, and then she broke down like a baby. Powers were bad, outfit was ridiculous, and her shaved head made her a man. I could see my reflection in it, and the one time I did a love interest with her weirded me out cause I felt like Shep was kissing another dude
Most forgettable was Jacob. After getting other teammates, I never used him, which I truly forgot he was still even on my team. Background and powers were badly done

I'm having trouble grasping the reasoning behind why people find Jacob so boring (or Kaidan, for that matter).  Is it because he's the most well-adjusted person and doesn't have some big problem only you can solve?  Or is it because he does not feel comfortable gushing about his feelings to his commanding officer (unless said officer is one hot chick that comes onto him blatantly)?  Or is there some subtext here?  It's cuz he's human, right?

There seems to be lots of human hate going on here.  Very few of the people listed have been alien.  Is it because aliens are exotic and we have no existing standards for them?  Because most of the time, the aliens' personalities were no better than the human ones.  Take Garrus in ME2, for example.  He and Tali have fewer conversations (non-romance) than anyone else on the squad, and receive no further development really than they had in ME1.  Yet for some reason, people like them far more than the new people with lots of development.  Or Wrex in ME1, he's largely the Krogan version of Zaeed, and yet far more people like Wrex than Zaeed.  Curious.

As for my opinion, I'd say Zaeed's actions on his loyalty mission were not only ruthless and evil, they were also completely unnecessary.  That makes him the stupidest (but not boring).  The most boring would probably be Thane, since it took me several playthroughs to not dislike him.

I don't have anything against Jacob. He is - just like a lot of people said before - the "normal", "average" one. And he's a nice guy. He certainly isn't my favourite but I never understood the hate. And the "but the PRIIIIZE" thing will ensure that he won't be forgotten. hahahaha

But Zaeed...I can't stand him. So...cliché. The badass old guy that you see in...THOUSANDS of games, movies, books and everything else every year.

@wizardryforever....'It has nothing to do with them being human, it's the character written....Jacob is boring and bland with no sense of humor, Miranda's a ruthless, Cereberus b*tch and Jack, I don't even know where to start with her'.

As for non-human crew members, all Salarians and Krogans irritate me, just don't like their cultural personalities. Thane, isn't too bad, I like him, I just find his Drell memory tedious, that may have more to do with the flashing graphics used during his rememberences than the actual memory stories though.

I adore the rest...even Zaheed, but I think thats because he sounds just like my Dad when he laughs, BW just happened to hit a soft spot with me there.

Grunt is just fine, thank you.
I actually find him quite endearing. Granted he isn't Wrex but his child-like enthusiasm never ceases to amuse me.

Anyway, for me the character that really didn't wow me was Liara in Mass Effect 1. Perhaps it was because I had already begun a relationship with Ashley but honestly the one time I did try to chat up Liara, she bored me. Her voice was monotone, her awkwardness felt kind of forced, she annoyed me with her constant fainting and perhaps worst of all was that listening to male Shepard trying to sound 'sensitive' or 'caring' made my eardrums bleed.
I dunno, I didn't hate her but she certainly wasn't one that I leapt at in awe either. For what it's worth, she got better in Mass Effect 2. But by then I had romanced the sassy action girl and planned to stay faithful to the aforementioned sassy action girl.

Let it be clear to any Liara fans out there, I mean no offence.

Also I've got to mention Miranda. I just did not like Miranda. That's all I feel I need to say about this.

Jacob and Miranda. Every time they open their mouth I just want to yell STFU!!! Only squadmates that I actually avoid talking to on the Normandy. I'll take them along with me every now and then for whatever reason, but they both belong firmly in the "ugh" tier of all ME squadmates.

I don't get the hate for Grunt though. He was funny.

Garrus. What's that? You're complaining again? That's new.
Zaeed, boring stories of him throwing teammates under the bus to live.
Tali's still meh.
Also that guy down in the tunnels on feros, I rarely hear his dialogue.

Is too late for me to say Liara? It doesn't help that even her VA sounds bored out of her mind.

Screen time and alot of lines do not make a character interesting, it is the content of which they speak to you about, the manner/style in which they deliever those lines, and what their relation to you is that makes them an interesting character. There is a report between Garrus and Shep of old soldier buddies (non-romance) and the few lines that they have establish it clearly. Wrex may not have had alot to do in ME1 but he still had a backstory, one that involved more than just a shot to the head and years spent trying to seak revenge on a person we could really care less about. Wrex was also our only real connection to the Krogan in ME1 providing us with not only his story but his people's story...all of which are worth listening to.

Simple analogy: Alec Guinnes's Obi-Wan Kenobi has most of his lines in Ep. IV and only reappears in the following sequels once or twice to say some small expository dialouge...yet he is a thousand times more interesting than his much younger and bigger role version of Kenobi.

For others unable to grasp why most people dont like Jacob I think it has to do with the simple fact that there is nothing to connect to, he is stand offish when you approach him yet when he wants to he will butt in to a conversation ex. Thane's first time aboard the Normandy.  Kaiden may be a well adjusted individual but again that anti social personality is what turns most people off to him, not that he doesnt come from a tortured past. Everyone has issues but it would suck if every character Bioware made all had parental issues or were victims of horrible crimes.

Weird. I thought Wrex was the only person in Mass Effect who honestly got any character development without me having to have sex with him. Which quickly made him my favorite in that game, since sex should not equate to character development.
