"Earth is burning. Striking from beyond known space, a race of
terrifying machines have begun their destruction of the human race. As
Commander Shepard, an Alliance Marine, your only hope for saving
mankind is to rally the civilizations of the galaxy and launch one
final mission to take back the Earth
."

That's ME3's plot summary. You have to rally other species (and humans) to help you fight the reapers, and will most likely involve the turians, asari, salarians, krogan, quarians and batarians.
But what about the second-banana races? Species that are only shown outside combat, and actually, not seen much at all?

I'm talking of course about the volus, elcor and hanar species. They can't do much, they don't have any big military fleet. Will they just be in the background? In ME2, there wasn't even one single hanar that spoke.

I really hope Bioware will come up with plots concerning these species. Maybe we need the volus for their economics? Shepard have to get money from somewhere, and getting the volus's loyalty will result in lots of credits you can spend on ships and weapons. However, I'm completely clueless on how elcor and hanar can help, but I think Bioware can do it.

Oh, and how big are the chances of a volus squadmate that carry shotguns and rocket launchersB):D

I just want more Hanar and Elcor NPC's. I missed talking to them in ME2. I mean there isn't a single speaking Hanar in ME2, and that's just a crime. Well except for that Blasto commercial on Illium.Image IPB

Yeah, I agree. And one elcor isn't much to brag about.

(Btw, can someone move this to Mass Effect General? This isn't really about ME2, lol)

I sure as hell hope so... The neglect for these species in ME2 is sinful.

I feel like they still haven't fleshed out the main five species enough and they've all had squadmates.

no i doubt they'll have major roles, they seem fairly minor in the grand scheme of things. none of them seem to have any real significant effect on anything.

They are just part of the background. I think their role in ME3 will be even smaller, actually. We are at war, and they can't fight.

We better get Blasto as a companion and LI in ME3.

Well it's hardly possible they could have a smaller role than in ME2 so I'm cautiously optimistic.

the volus have nothing, they are under the protection of the turian hierarchy and use them for defense

the elcor and hanar also have minor fleets

True, but I still think we should at least get side-quests involving these species. If the Citadel's back, there may be many opportunities of meeting a volus, an elcor or a hanar.

I actually think we'll see a lot more Hanar involvement in ME3. One of the Cerberus news updates hinted at the possibility that the Hanar -- or at least, certain sects of the Hanar -- will be inclined to join the Reapers when they arrive. The Hanar Pope basically said "Now that we know the Protheans were themselves 'enkindled', we should view those 'enkindlers' as even more noble beings."

I really hope we wind up having brainwashed Hanar and their pet Drell assassins coming at us in ME3.

As for Volus and Elcor... I don't know. I doubt they'll play any significant MILITARY role. The Volus don't have a fleet of their own (I don't think?) and I know next to nothing about the Elcor beyond the fact that they talk like HK-47 on Thorazine.

I'd love to see more about the Hanar. The whole thing with the compact with the drell, the implication that this arrangement is keeping Drell on a world that dooms them all to dying of Kepral syndrome.
We know the Quarians are trying to get their own world but if any other race needs a new home world it's the Drell!

I'd also like to see more Volus and Elcor... see more Turian worlds... more Salarians...darn it why does Earth have to be the heart of everything when we have all these other races we could be learning about!?

Hanar are actually pretty big in the galactic community.

The elcor and volus not so much. The volus might be the economic masters, but when it comes to actually doing anything... Well besides counting money, or buying expensive sex suits, I would count them out.

The Elcor would make beast ground troops though. Weapon platforms all the way.

Volus will dominate. I think they'll be essential after the war to make sure the economy and inflation doesn't go on a rise. They'll be key to rebuilding other planets and colonies after the ionvasion if anything is left.

Elcor will be walking tanks with giant laser cannons of death strapped to their backs.

I like the theory of Hanar and Drell assasins joining the reapers.....

It would be pretty bad-ass to see a squad with the Biotic God, the Elcor Actor, & above else Blasto the Hanar Spectre.
