Sorry for asking a question that's probably been asked 100 times but how can I import an existing  DA:O chracter like Morrigan into a level or cutscene? I've looked and searched but can't seem to find out how to do that. While we are at it, how do I my bring in my own created DA:O character from the game?

Are you working in a standalone mod or an addin to the single player?
If you are working in an addin to the single player, it is easier because you have access to the creature files for them but changing anything on them might corrupt the OC so be careful what you change.
In a standalone mod it is a little bit more complicated as there you have to create the creature files from scratch. Giving them the headmorphs is not so difficult. Have a look at the toolset wiki tutorial for creatures. It has good starter tutorial on other aspects as well.

As to your second question, it depends on what you want to do.
Having your DAO character in a cutscene is as simple as setting the player tag there, being able to play as him/her throughout your module, you have to enable importing characters from saved games in you module script. Check the parameters on StartCharGen(...).

Ok. I wasn't even sure if I had it set to single player or not. I'm pretty sure I do now. Do I just open up "character" in the palette window and find DA:O characters in there? I can't seem to get them the to appear in the room I have created.

Ok, first of all never change something directly in the single player module, make an addin to the single player otherwise you might corrupt your game.
Have a look at the beginner tutorials in the toolset wiki for that information. You might find other tutorials there that answer other questions you might have. If something there is not clear come back and ask a concrete question here.
(If I sound rude, I am sorry, I didn't want to call you off, sorry.)

heyas;

if you are creating cutscenes in your own module, you can 'duplicate' characters from the single player game to your module. please poke around in my sig links for the tutorials. there should be instructions for that in the voice-over tutorial (like around page 12, i think), and i went over it in my video tutorial quickstart. check my dragon age blog for a whole list of tutorials; i have a page for them there.

Warning: you will have to edit the duplicated creature/character and take out the database pointers in its file -- the character and soundset slots, mainly. (you'll see them, and/or the toolset will throw conniptions when you try to open the utc. just set those to 'none' and resave; it'll be fine.)

there is a method to pull the mor file out of a save game for use on an npc in the toolset. i'll check if i have the link saved somewhere and get back. the only thing is, you can't change it if you do that. ie: give yourself a new hairdo, or skin, or tattoo.... etc.
the other thing you can do is try to re-do your characters face in the morph editor, from scratch. there's no real easy/direct way to get the shapes/settings from your character file to the morph editor though. and i'm pretty sure the sliders on the pc creator are different than the npc morph editor, because i can never get my character bannon's nose right.

ps: i only do cutscenes for machinima. i can't guarantee the suitability of these methods for modules, add-ins, etc.

pps:  here's the link for the pc to npc mor file creation.  you'll need a hex editor (theres a link to d/l one in the thread)

Thank you very much Bloodsong.Vengean. I will definitely have a look at those. They sound like some feasible work-arounds. I actually did consider just using standard creatures and making them look like Morrigan and the like. I will be good and read all the beginner tutorials too. I wanted to start with cutscenes and Machinima and maybe try modding a level. For some reason I thought that would be easy. My school insists I do hobby games and mod games in addition to school work. I'm all for it but that doesn't mean it's easy to find time to do these things.

Thanks again all of you helpful ladies and gents!
